LDD 4.2.5 keeps crashing
Superkalle replied to monsinjor's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hello Dario This is a known issue, but 20.000 bricks sounds a bit low. Mine will crash with about 30.000. (I have roughly the same computer specs as you) But it depends a bit on which kind of bricks you've used. Flexible bricks for example are bad, as well as large baseplates. Generally bricks with a lot of details (many polygons) would make LDD more prone to crash. If you would share your model, it's off course always easier to tell if there is a problem with your computer, or if it's the model. PS: I changed from "crushing" to "crashing" in your heading. -

A bit too much trolling there (If you want to discuss pros and cons of different programs, please create a separate topic) -
LDD - The Color Black
Superkalle replied to Megaloptus's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
No, you are probably right. Basically, two RGB values - one when outlines are turned on, one when off. This should probably go on the "Wanted features" list. -
LDD - The Color Black
Superkalle replied to Megaloptus's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Did you read my post above? (or maybe we cross-posted looking at the timestamp ) Anyway, in MLCad (as an example), black bricks have a white outline and therefore they can allow the black to be darker. In LDD, it doesn't work like this because LDD have to support users that do not have graphics cards that support edge outlines. So, because of this, LDD has to support "the worst case", which unfortunately means a more pale black. Having said that, I do agree that it probably could be tweaked to at least be a little bit darker. -
LDD - The Color Black
Superkalle replied to Megaloptus's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Don't want to step in your explanation Calabar, but it could perhaps be clearifed that the reason for the pale black if for users that can't (or won't) turn on brick edge outlines. If black would hade been a really dark black, you wouldn't be able to make out any shadows on black bricks - it would be just like looking into an abyss. You can try this yourself like this: 1) Turn off Edge Outlines (Edit > Preferences > Outlines on bricks) 2) Open a MOC with lots of black (like some Batman model) 3) Use Anchirs color chart and swatch the color 109 IR black 4) Color everything in the model from Black 26-Black to 109-IR Black. Behold the abyss -
A nice list of brick errors. Meesa like. 1) It will fit if you rotate the "side panels" up a bit. This should be done in any case to prevent collision in the "click" joint between 44302 and 44301. 2) Yepp, an annoying 'ol bug. 3) Good find . Haven't seen that before. 4) It will fit if you rotate the assembly with two 15L tech beams with 0.1 degrees. Then it lines up perfectly. See attached file. 5) Seems like an illegal design from TLG...but it's such a tight fit it might work with real bricks without creating tension on the other bricks. anglefix.lxf

Good find. It's a tricky error. I haven't seen this technique used before (attaching to 1x3 plate). I'm not sure that the LEGO internal models go through the same legal building testing as other sets. Or this may in fact be legal....

[Software] LDD Manager
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
For Mac the only solution is to create a virtual PC and install the free Access runtime. For 64 bit office, I'll look into creating a 64bit version - shouldn't be that hard. Otherwise you can naturally install 32-bit office. Microsoft themselves recommend 32-bit due to other incompatibilities with the 64-bit version. -

LDD 4.2.5 Bugs
Superkalle replied to Zerobricks's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
It's a fair point, but there really isn't any list. Other then this topic perhaps (although some bugs are also reported in the "official sets in LDD"-topic). So at the moment, we just have to live with the fact that occasionally a bug will be reported twice or so. In all honesty I'm not sure that even if there was a published list, people would search through it before posting here. It's like those pinned topics in forums. No one reads them... In one sense, it's even better to have people report the same bug several times, because it tells you which bugs are causing most irritation (and thus should be fixed first by TLG). -

Normally, LDD MOCs should be posted in their respective theme forum here at Eurobricks. But I'll make an exception for this, since you mentioned the minifig decals which may be of interest to other LDD builder -

Updated version, 1.01, is now out. And I moved the LDD installation files to Google Drive here: https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B9Ysf2u0fN8pbzcwVmxWSWthdFE/edit -
Cool that you are using LDD And cool that you built the car with old school brick-on-brick technique - you don't see that much these days.

[Software] LDD2PovRay
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Yepp, basically Martin is doing wonders with the quite poor level-of-detail in the origianl LDD bricks. Allready the studs have been made perfectly round with logo ontop, bevels added to the bricks and increased level-of-detail on the underside/anti-studs. Then also the addition of a rough surface on roof slopes. And the addition of various materials depending on bricks (rubber, shiny plastic, rough plastic etc - which BTW yours truly helped out with, so blame me if it ain't good) Actually, all these values, custom materials etc are available to view and edit in the Include directory (check out the inc.-files in a text editor). And if any of you rendering geeks out there have any input on how to improve the mappings in the inc-files, please share it -

The only solution I know is that the underlying geometries get improved in LDD2PovRay, and that is something I know our good man Hrontos has been thinking about. Basically we're taking about an algorithm to identify segements that make up a full circle/cylinder, and once this is done, replace them with a perfect circle/cylinder (which if I understand correctly will also speed up rendering). Don't know the time schedule for this though. -

On a different note. Until now, I've hosted LDD Manager on Microsofts SkyDrive. Unfortunately they seemed to have changed policy about being able to share files larger than 25Mb without having to sign in to SkyDrive. This sucks big time, so I'm working on finding somewhere else to host the files. For the time being, you can still download LDD Manager from Skydrive, but you need to create a Skydrive account and sign in to get it. -

Have you unzipped the content of LDDManager.zip file to a new folder? Or are you trying to run LDD Manager directly from the zip-file? -

I'm not fully sure what you did, but it seemed to work I guess? PS: You can also right click a folder and access the read-only property, and you can select multiple files too. -

Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hi Alec First, to change the read-only property of a file, right click it, and chose properties. At the bottom is a check-box for "Read-only". Try to un-check it. As a second step, I need to know where you are are putting the MDB file (which folder). If the folder is a read-only file, then sometimes the file placed there will inherit that and also become read-only, also if you manually un-check file itself; Try to put the MDB-file in your Personal Folders or some place where you know you have read-and-write rights and see if it works. BTW, what version of Access do you have? And what version Windows?
