  1. About wether a wheel loader model would have looked better if it wasn't a Volvo: One thing that struck me is the straight in-line 6 engine (Volvo standard). It's longer then normal, and usually Technic engines are equiped with whatever cylinder count that fits. In this case, to make it realistics, the correct amount (6) was used. So in this sence, the model could have looked different (and element budget used on other parts) if it wasn't for the 6 cylinder engine. On the other hand, if 100% realism is what to strive for, most other brands also have big engines, so it wouldn't matter I suppose.
  2. No, the books are unfortunately modelled open. But there is allready a reported wish that the LDD Team will re-model them to be closed, which would be more useful.
  3. If you can provide some more info, like the size of the window you want to have, what you tried so far etc, it's easier to help out.
  4. Are you sure it's supposed to be a 2445 (2x12). It looks like a 2x10 in the building instructions.
  5. I'm not sure to be honest. Sure, TLG could have taken inspiration from various real machines and made their own version (as they do with all other Technic models). But still, basically all wheel loaders on the market look the same and have the same proportions irrespective of brand. I think the criticism in that case should be more on the model as such, rather the it being caused by applying a certain brand (be it Volvo, Liebherr, Komatsu....)
  6. There was some discussion in the Swedish LUG forum that the model actually isn't very well modeled after the original, even though they say so in the TLG promo video. With the LXF at hand....anyone care to mod it to see if it can be done better? (image courtesey of AndersI)
  7. I think I know the reason for that. If you place a normal clip onto the tap, it should not attach any further then the lowest portion. If you place it higher up, the area highlighted in blue in the picture, would force the clip to bend apart, and that is an illegal technique since it would force the clip to brake eventually. When this limitation was added, it seems the Minifig-hands got included too, and maybe they shouldn't.
  8. I think I solved this. Check attached file and see if that's how it's supposed to be. 75045_republic_av7_antivehicle_cannon_fix.lxf
  9. No problem in being new But just in general, the quality of models in this topic should be aimed to be top-of-the-line. The idea when the topic was started once upon a time was for it to become a resource for official sets that you could either use as inspiration for you own builds, or make mods of existing sets. So for this reason, it's important that models are of as absolutely best quality as possible.
  10. Technic Moderator Jim has been hard at work the last couple of weeks! No, I'm not talking about his daytime job, or even his involvement in the World Hockey Cup 2014 that took off this weekend; I'm talking about something much more important - the exclusive review of the new Volvo L350F Wheel Loader, the 2014 Flagship model from LEGO Technic. Roll on over here and read the full extensive review Jim put together.
  11. I think the issue is more severe for companies that have the same name as the product, such as LEGO or Xerox, compared to those that have them separated, such as Aspirin by Beyer, or Frisbee by Wham-O and in absolute worst case these companies can "give up the fight" and not lose everything. For LEGO that'd be kind of difficult, unless they want to change the name of the company.
  12. Please note LDD Manager is not updated to the latest brickset yet. I'm waiting for the release/fix for the Technic shock absorber etc.
  13. Note: The QUIZ was moved to a separate topic here
  14. Some good answers coming in...even one I hadn't even thought of myself, so that's nice I'll keep the topic open for some time to see if all the correct answers come in. EDIT: The answers for 7) and 8) were actually in in some earlier posts in the original Flower topic, so we could exclude those. For 7) The answer was that if you look at the other flowers, the "stud" part is facing down, so if you use that as a guideline, the stud on the old flower should face down too. For 8), the answer was that the stud faces down in LDD.
  15. EDIT: This used to be in the Serious Questions about Flower, but was split out to this separate topic Old Flower Mini Quiz Nine questions related to this topic, and about on the same fun/geek level. For your entertainment and enjoyment. And don't despair if you don't get them all right...some are really hard 1) Where can you find the only triangular hole in the LEGO System? 2) Why does the flower stud have reduced clutch power (because it does)? 3) Name another brick that has reduced stud clutch power in the LEGO system? EDIT: question updated/clarified 4) What material is the flower made of? 5) The underside of the stem/stalk (3741) has a stud-hole that is much deeper then a normal stud hole. Name an element that has a stud that can fit all the way into the bottom of that hole. 6) Name a fundamental flaw with the stem/stalk (3741) element as far as the LEGO System is concerned. 7) If you compare to the other flowers in the LEGO System....which could be considered to be the right side up on the flower? Question removed 8) According to LDD (which mirrors the internal TLG digital standard), which is the right side up? Question removed 9) In 2012 a new stem/stalk was released with ID 99249. Why can't that be ordered as a spare part? If you get all questions right I'll bow deeply to you. And even through in a special tag to commemorate you as a true LEGO wiz. Good luck
  16. @Toa and kangmingjie (and everyone else): I'd report these kind of software specific related bugs also to LEGO Customer Services. In my experience it gets some extra impact when coming through that channel. As for this specific issue, I remember it being present also in the previous LDD brickset/version. Maybe it got worse though because of all the new decorations in this brickset?
  17. In the Digital Design forum, member virtualrepublic is showing some pretty amazing renders. Read more about how it's done here
  18. A little crude in the animation still, and the story is a bit...hm odd ... but hilarious Love the different colored lights!!! Keep up the good work
  19. Hi Dan Since you are a new member, first of all - welcome to EB and Digital Design forum. Great work on that ladder. Is there any chance you can share the LXF-file too? Tip: Best way to share LXF-files is to start an account on Brickshelf.com which allows you to upload both images and LXF-files.
  20. Wow...that is a very thourough report. No discussion there is something that needs to be fixed with the collision boxes
  21. Hi smoothbit. I'm moving your topic over to our General Discussion topic
  22. Absolutely no problem about posting. And it's a valid question, because the 15457 is an unusual part in that it was introduced and cancelled within months. It's going to be a rare piece in the future I think. See also this topic in the Technic forum
  23. I believe the 15457 gear worm has been discontinued by TLG. New sets don't use it anymore and 42023 is not using it anymore in the newer production batches. See here: http://cache.lego.com/bigdownloads/buildinginstructions/6099634.pdf
