Hm, this was a bit harsh wasn't it? I think Dharkan should be encoraged for making the review. And a very personal such with the pics of his brother. I thougth that was very sincere. And Patroleks comment was completely meaningless too! Not in the spirit of Eurobricks. As a newbie, you should have another attitude! Dharkan - keep up the good work and don't let this guys bring you down.

[KEY TOPIC] Wanted bricks in LDD
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
OK, no problem more addtiions to the wish list. But can you explain what you mean by "pinstuds into the underside of a normal 1xn brick". -
There is a small problem with this model. If you open it in LDD it will show a warning "two bricks have been removed". The reason is that you cannot place the two black spears like that. It's a bug in the brick geometry that creates a collision error. To solve it, simply lift the spear up a few millimeters in the 1x1 Cone Brick. Also as a general tip, if you want to see where bricks were placed that was removed, you can check the following auto-generated file: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\LEGO Company\UnplaceableBricksDump.lxfml (Just double click it and it will open in LDD)

Hey, this is just awesome with all the models lately. I never would have thought this LDD thing here at Eurobricks would take off like it has. This is just freakin' amazing.

I'm glad it was OK (I just found out after my post that you are the famous Mad Physist). Anyway, I thought the HotRod was so cooll, I couldn't resist. If you want I can send you the LDD file.

Preview LXF-thumbnails, how?
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I guess you're right. Sorry to Prateek in that case. It's just that sometimes it really gets to me with those "I don't know", "I think so", "Maybe" etc. On to the question at hand. No, this was in the past 2 months, so it must have been 3.1. I mean, it should be possible. A LXF is just a zip-file that contains a PNG, that can easily be pre-viewed. -
Yeah, I'd sure like to know that too I see you had to do some sort of work-around, but how?

And the reason you can't put the teeth together is because it's an illegal connection to put a technic pin inside a 1x1 round brick, and LDD only supports legal connections. (That specifc connection was allowed many years ago, but not anymore. ) Maybe one could use there two (one inverted) to get the teeth pointed downwards?

Preview LXF-thumbnails, how?
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Sorry Prateek, and I mean this in the best intentions: but could you please only post if you have something to add to the discussion. -
@Mr. Meleca. You're right that currency fluctuates. But even within one currency, how comes the Grand Emporium is 200 Euro in Finland and 150 in Belgium (as an example). Besides, it's no point in us AFOLs speculating. The question was if TLG either want's to give a reson, of if the chose not to comment. In either case, it would be good to have that statement, becuase then we can direct all future discussions about price to that reply. Now, there's just vacuum.

Has TLG ever borrowed ideas from AFOLs?
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I wasn't really refereering to those designs where there was official co-operation with AFOLS, or borrowing from previous LEGO sets. I meant more when TLG have used very distinctive techniques/designs that and AFOL had come up with years before. -
@Mirandir You're certainly right about many of the factors that influcence pricing. But please remember that this topic was about price difference in EU, which removes many of the factors you list. I became aware of the huge price difference when it was revealed that Grand Emporium was 200 Euros in Sweden but only 150 Euros in most other EU countries. And I don't think we should have too high regards about Legos skill in pricing regarding such low volume product as Grand Emporium, where I guess only 1% of the world sales go to Sweden. At least not compared to ultra high volume sets like SW or Atlantis where every Euro makes a difference. That's why I would like to know TLG:s response, if not least to get feedback that they have heard what we AFOLS say.

That's a great little MOC with an unusuall shape. I have a thing for smallish MOCs too, so this one is excactly the kind of thing I like. The little wings are super.

We all know many AFOLs borrow ideas from official Lego sets, but how is the other way around? Are there examples when TLG has used specific and clearly identifiable designs or techniques from an AFOLs MOC? As a backgrounder, here's a quoute from TLG that I copied from the official LEGO.com forum: Every year we receive hundreds of thoughtful and imaginative LEGO suggestions from both adults and children. However, it is necessary for us to have a policy in place which prohibits any acceptance of such ideas by us, however unkind this may seem. One of the reasons for this policy relates to the long time- period needed by our product development team to plan, research and develop new products. [probably around 2 years, my comment]. During this time period, a consumer may submit a similar idea for a new item to our Company, and therefore, believe the new product is due to his or her idea. To avoid confusion with regard to the idea, we must politely decline all outside ideas. I guess this is a fair policy. TLG would end up in an unmanageable situation if they "borrowed" ideas from outside the company. But even so, does anyone know of examples when TLG has used designs that are so unique that its unambiguous they must have come from outside the company?

CopMike, any response from TLG on this topic?

Some time ago I browsed my folder full with LXF-file, and instead of seeing that LXF-file icon (with the Blue brick), I could see the small thumbnail image of the actual model. It's just that now I can't remember how I did that, or even if it was something native in Windows XP/7 or if it was some image browsing software I used. Anyone knows how to do it?
-
Yes, this certainly deserves to be front paged. Once of the best MOC's I've seen in a long, long time. Top class. Period.

Very, very nice dome!! Tres Bien!!
-
Excellent MOC. The combination of 4 and 5 stud wide really put this model apart . And the fact that you've linked to the instructions is an extra bonus. You don't see that kind of sharing often. I re-created your model in LDD and played around a bit. Hope that was OK.

This thread I have to keep monitoring . That fire trucks looks awesome. -
Very, very nice. The clean look. The few, carefully selected colors. This looks promising for the future
