LDD Design Challenge #5
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Did you use the OLD macaroni-brick in the palette? Have a look under the brick. There shall be no braces. -
LDD Design Challenge #6
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
OK folks, 4 minutes and 20 seconds. Canada has taken the lead. But for how long? EDIT: Error in the time keeping department: 4 and minutes and 2 seconds. -
LDD Design Challenge #6
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Wow, the idea with a video is great. The reason I came up with this challenge is that I was if the GUI of LDD could be improved for increased speed and ease use. Then I thought that speed building is one way of testing the efficiency of a GUI. I also thought it would interesting to see how different people use LDD, and your video is actually the ultimate way to see this. -
LDD Design Challenge #5

Hm, that's strange. Have you used the right macaroni? There are two in the brick palette, the old mold without internal braces, and the new one with braces. Only the old one will work. -
LDD Design Challenge #5

I'm not sure what you mean? To get the green plate method to work you have to rotate the first macaroni so it's fits on the circle of the below macaronis, and you have to make sure that it is really inline with the circle. Then it's just a matter of snapping the remaining three in place. -
OK, in rapid succession, here is challenge #6 This time it's about speed and putting the LDD GUI to the test. How fast can you build in LDD? We crave a champion! The rules are simple: 1) Start LDD with a new blank workspace in LU-mode. No expanded brick categories, no pre-selected colors. Just plain start-up mode. 2) Build the below model as fast as you can. Stop the timer when you put the last brick in place (the time it takes to move you hand to the stop-watch or PC-timer should be included in the total time, to make it simple). 3) Post your time here. PS1: For reference, the jpg-image, as well as the LXF-file is attached below. PS2: I thought we'd have the same speed building contest with the 4.0 GUI once it's released, just to measure the difference. SpeedBuilding.zip

LDD Preferences questions
Superkalle replied to jm28cardiff's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I have an older laptop at work, and it's hopeless to use LDD on. Graphics are so slow. But I have colleagues that have equally old computers and for them it works like a dream. It turned out that my graphics chip didn't have have harware rendering support for some transformations. Had to do with OpenGL (which is what LDD uses). Anyay, jm28cardiff - welcome to the LDD forums. Look forward to seeing you more around these parts of Eurobricks And in my case, LDD has just forced me to buy even more parts....I mean you gotta build what you've designed, right. At least that's how it is for me -
LDD Design Challenge #5
Superkalle replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
No problem to comment Brickdoctor. This is just a LDD challenge. The challenges are more laid-back The contest is a different matter though... And to LegoDejc I say - excellent solution. Below is my variant. I used the green 4x4 plate to lock the placement of the remaining three macaronis. However, it's important that the first macaroni is turned to the right spot so it alignes perfectly with the bottom layer (step 3). You have to zoom in in LDD to see that it's right. -
Somewhere to keep track of your sets?
Superkalle replied to crossmr's topic in General LEGO Discussion
What do you mean "other things"? Brickset is for sets. Try it out, and you will soon find any diffrences compared to Peeron! -
OK ladies and gentlemen - let's have some fun with a small Design Challenge. I picked this one up from a previous discussion here at the forum. The challenge is pretty straight forward. Create the below model, and explain with screenshots how you did it.

I agree with Piratedave84. Build the bow using other bricks, and then substitute at build time. I use different colored bricks for the substitute bricks, and also make them into a group for easy selecting. Tip: there is a topic at the LDD forum where you can share custom/substitute parts. From what I've heard, TLG are adding lots more bricks for LDD 4.0 which is due for release in September. We'll see if they'll add the bow, but I'm hoping so.

Just found this here: ================ 6th of July, 2010 Watch out for floating elements!!! Dear Builder, Inside information has told us that a selection of 16 new elements have leaked into the sea. The floating pieces are currently being picked up. We will run them through a quality check, and look forward to presenting them in our updated palette very soon. Best wishes & Happy Building :) The Design byME Team ================ What does it mean? Anyone got a clue?

Regarding the minifig feet. I played around some and discovered the following: It seems we have two problems here: Firstly, the minifig feet themselves are not too long. Instead it's the combined geometries of the legs and the torso that creates the problem. Even if you first placed only the legs, they would still be off-set forward a slight amount in order to allow the torsos back (when placed) to be flush against the green brick-stack. So the base of the problem is actually the geometry of the minifig itself, combined with the fact that the LDD team have modelled the minifig as a complete unit (legs and torso). Secondly, there is the problem with the horse. This seems to be a boundary problem with the horse itself since, as correctly pointed out, a minifig can be placed backwards but not forward.

You got something really cool here. Do you have somewhere to upload your pics (Brickshelf, Flickr, Hotmail or similar) and have you managed to upload images there. If so, it shouldn't be to much of problem to link to them to your post here at EB. Read here how to do it: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=18451

Wow, that was kind of neat, ha, ha. I have reported it to TLG (and from what I hear they really appreciate all the stuff we find). Oddly, a 1x1 plate will not fit at all. Regarding the full height brick, it might be because it's an illegal connection (i.e. connecting anything but a thin plate). I've reported that too and we'll see what happens. Anyway, this is a good read if you haven't seen it before

Great job! And I like that you've included a pic of the original one. Nice touch! I haven't seen the error with the eye-balls. But is it a legal connection? Isn't the Scala Bed Know larger in diameter than an ordinary rotation joint ball?

Like I said. I have done all the googling needed and I have seen that article before. Mayve I was unclear in my first post, but my quesiton was here if anyone has practical experience or personal knowledge, or knew if any company or university had actually done anything in this area. Thanks anyway dluders!
