At one point last month, I sat down and went through A LOT of pirate/castle MOCs to check out what kind of bricks and pieces were used to create the kind of rocks, grass, roads, paths, trees, water (and water effects) docks, house walls, windows, doors, entrances, different roofs, strings etc. etc. etc. that I find lovely to look at. It ended up as a loooong unreadable list of things to remember to buy on bricklink, but when I find the time, I could clean up that list (make it more readable), and post it here. btw, it will be very expensive to just buy all of those bricks and pieces at one time, so my suggestion is to start out really small, and only buy the needed bricks for a small-scale MOC at first. I decided to go through my own pile of LEGO first and see how many bricks I already have, that fit my criteria for MOCing bricks - so I haven't bought any from my loooooong list yet.

Well from the pictures provided it's clear that you definitelt aren't overly picky - but I'm still amazed that LEGO thinks that the one on the left is "good quality" printing.... LEGO was of a MUCH better quality when I was i kid (80's- early 90's) Today I often experience new bricks that have cracks after very little play time - even regular white 1x2 bricks!!!

Wow - this is definitely a WINNER One of the best ideas ever put into LEGO. And a lot of most excellent details throughout the entire scene.

Oh dear God - that is just stunning. I can't wait to see more updates, and can't wait to see this thing when you begin to add in details, interior, weapons and minifigs

It was not until I saw the comparison shot of the Pluto and the SES that I really noticed the size of your ship... Holy cow, that ship is just massive. I am blown away. There are numerous great details on this ship, but I am not very experienced in building ships, to give constructive feedback, although there are a few things I would change. For example; there is room for more cannons - there's a gap between some of the cannons on the side, which look a bit strange. I know that the gap is there because you've placed an entrance to the lower deck, but maybe you should redesign that, in order to get a more even look with the cannons Also, I would make all the sails more yellowed/old - and perhaps without the skull design. But those pictures are very enjoyable to browse through. So many details. My favourite part is definitely the whole cabin section, or perhaps the front section with the beast eating a skeleton.

And yet again, I've returned to this MOC - it so really so spectacular, I want to eat it. I hope it's okay, that I link to your MOCpages, Derfel? http://www.mocpages.com/home.php/21694

That's a great MOC - I really love the design and the fact that you added cows to pull the wagon. Can you upload some pictures of the sides and the back of the wagon?

I just keep returning to this MOC - it is just amazing. How did you angle the roofs? I'm having difficulties creating roofs, which is holding me back from creating anything worth calling a MOC...

This is an interesting thread, and an interesting idea. I remember playing this game very much back in the day. It has never really been topped ever since, even though the sixth game in the series was quite good. Great MOCs you built. Keep it up

And you've done it again. This is spectacular. It has a certain "official LEGO" feeling to it, although of course much much more detailed and beautiful. Great idea with the broken walls, and good to see that you've tried out another kind of mountain-style. Please: link me to your MOCs in bigger resolutions

We certainly did - That is just amazing. You are very lucky to have so much extra space for displaying LEGO.

Wow. I love it. This and your other Western MOCs - you are extremely talented. My favourite is the vulture. It looks so real. -
Thank you for this great review. I just bought this set second hand a couple of weeks ago. It is an AMAZING set - one of the best, if not the best designed Lego Castles. 12 minifigs, with very rare plumes, horse bardings, a very rare flag, the lovely baseplate, the black walls and the gate, along with the prisoner, the ghost, the secret ghost tower, the well and the cellar/prison.... this set is incredible. Incredible

I'm lazy... but we should add pictures to all those descriptions of the minifigs :) Great post, but would be even better with pictures to each minifig -
Buying Pirate LEGO - where to buy, advice, tips and questions
Lorentzen replied to Mr. Smee's topic in LEGO Pirates
oh - and by the way - I really don't mind buying a dirty ship (with nice looking sails though) because I love to sit and clean every single brick. Seriously - I do. It's like therapy for me I usually use a soft toothbrush with very little water on, and the bricks turn out beautiful when I done.- 502 replies

Buying Pirate LEGO - where to buy, advice, tips and questions
Lorentzen replied to Mr. Smee's topic in LEGO Pirates
Thanks for all the great advice guys. I am actually thinking of buying an incomplete set, that does have all sails and strings, hulls and masts - because the rest can easily be found in my own collection of lego, and if not, than the missing bricks are definitely not as expensive as sails, hulls and all the masts. It would "only" have cost me 30 uk piunds for shipping for that auction I linked to, I don't know how you get it to be 70 uk pounds - that's an insane price for having it sent to another country- 502 replies

Buying Pirate LEGO - where to buy, advice, tips and questions
Lorentzen replied to Mr. Smee's topic in LEGO Pirates
Well thanks guys The sails look great, and there are instructions, but no box. It's from Portugal - Here's a link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT - but I've decided to wait longer until I find a better deal. It just sucks that I always have to pay so much for shipping- 502 replies

Buying Pirate LEGO - where to buy, advice, tips and questions
Lorentzen replied to Mr. Smee's topic in LEGO Pirates
Hey guys - I was just wondering - Is 80 UK pounds (including shipping/post) a good price for a BSB that has everything except the rowboat and a few of the minifgs (I already own them)- 502 replies

Wow SlyOwl - those sails on your SES look completely new. Did you buy a MISB at some point and open it?
-
I could do it for you if you sent me the original pictures you took :) I could be fun Great pictures and story btw - I love to see LEGO out in the real world
-
I think I've used a few of them in some of my reviews, so thanks :) But yes, the links were dead the last couple of times when I've been meaning to use them in my recent reviews

Master eBay Auctions thread - post noteworthy auctions here
Lorentzen replied to interstellar's topic in LEGO Pirates
I just missed out on a BSB a few days ago - by £2 I might take a look at that BSB auction there, although it's better for me to search the English ebay - because of shipping prices etc. -
Medieval Life: St. Cadoc's Church
Lorentzen replied to Derfel Cadarn's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'm alreadt pretty late. Everything good has been said about this. But screw that :) I LOVE your building technique - really love it. The church wall with plants growing up all the way to the roof is excellent. And the landscape is really beautiful too. You have a very special building technique, it's really recognizable. Incredible stuff -
Wow - that is one stunning creation. I'm seriously impressed. edit: I just checked some photos of the one in the movie.... holy crap yours is just like it. I'm even more impressed now
