I love it. There are many great things in this MOC - first I'd like to say that I love the choice of minifigs. They're excellent although I find myself feeling a bit weirded out when I look at the bartender... what are those eyes. Next, the palm tree looks absolutely stunning with that plant creeping up from bottom to top. The water also looks great although it might look even better if it weren't so stricktly arranged I also like how you've built the bar. There are many great ideas there, like the wineglasses that hang upside down, and the handle attached to perhaps a fustage with beer. The two chairs are very nice indeed. Good and original idea using two sea shells for cushins. This MOC is not completely true to it's time (considering that there probably weren't bars back then with functions such as beer from a tap. ) BUT it reminds me of "Monkey Island TM" - and I love those games. I say great great work on this entry!

99a Hi everybody. This is my very first attempt as an adult at creating a MOC. Even as a kid I didn't do this kind of LEGO building. UPDATE: I've made some edits a few times, and this should be my final version, unless I get some really great advice or come up with a very cool new idea. So the following pictures show the final version of this MOC. Thanks for all the advice it has helped me very very much. I hope you enjoy my entry for this competition. The story: After several years of hunting down pirates throughout the caribbean sea, the old Admiral has retired and he now enjoys his life with his wife. Every saturday afternoon, the old Admiral's grandson Willie comes to visit him. And every time, Willie asks: "Please tell me a story Grandpa" for Willie loves to hear those stories of swashbuckling fearsome pirates, courageous soldiers and dangerous sharks roaming the sea. Little Willie does not know, however, what lies under his feet... The old Amiral may have been a good and just Admiral, serving his majesty for many many years but he, did however, always steal a tiny bit of treasure from the pirates he defeated, and saved that treasure for his retirement. This is what lies beneath the wooden planks in the old Admiral's living room, and he plans to give his beloved grandson what is left of that magnificent treasure, when he one day dies. The attic that's full of hay to keep the house warm, hides something... a treasure map which the old Admiral plans to use in a few years time, when Willie is old enough to join him on his beloved Caribbean Clipper. The old Admiral has kept his uniform, bicorn and sword in his attic as well. Apparantly he's not ready to give up on his eventful past just yet. The (updated for the third time) entry (The first editions can still be seen if you click on the link in the bottom of this post - in there are also some pictures that I've photoshopped to create the illusion of light in the trans yellow bricks) More photos can be found here: Tell me a story, Grandpa - PTVII - Small Entry

Haha I never knew this would end up with so many posts - well I don't like how the brick looks so I'm not gonna use it. But as suggested by SlyOwl it would definitely be cool if LEGO did something similar, only better

Hi guys - I thought I'd share my pictures from this summer when I went to Legoland Billund. I decided to upload all 59 pictures because I know the interest in everything LEGO related is high on eurobricks Enjoy - I haven't arranged them in any order Notice how the windmill is intact here: Immediately after I took the above picture, this happened
-
That's pretty sweet With your drawing skills, this might be a huge success! Good luck - I might buy something one day

I like this entry very much. It works very well with your story. I get the feeling that the weather is nice, and I can almost smell the wonderful nature. The many round 1x1 bricks are a good choice for fungi and smaller flowers. It's nice to keep things simple like that. The chef's hat is perfectly placed as a huge mushroom of some sort. I really love your big fat tree and how it curves a bit. I think it would look even better with a much larger tree top full of leaves and fruits. Do you have more grey bricks in one colour? I just think that since the rocky formations in youe MOC are so small, it would look better if they had the same colour all around, with very few exceptions. Here's an example of a rocks with different colours: (Made by Etzel) The five soldiers all have the same face. I suggest that you change that up a bit and had them look different from each other. Otherwise it becomes a bit generic for my taste. But all in all a wonderful looking MOC with room for small improvements if you ask me I particularly think that you could spice the whole thing up with more plants. Here's a great looking MOC with a lot of plants all over, but it still doesn't look too crowded. Perhaps you can use some of the things as an inspiration (even though the general mood in that MOC is quite different from yours) (Made by SirNadroj)

Parrot's Perch Pub PTV2 Contest Entry -medium
Lorentzen replied to ProducePrincess's topic in Pirate MOCs
What a great entry. I don't see much that I think will "turn off" the voters. You've taken great pictures, you've made sure that the background is not disturbing the actual MOC (but tape the blue papersheets better together for the final photo) and you've used a lot of the bricks and colours that people like to see in a MOC. The idea/story it self if great, and you've managed to create something that does the story justice. Very well done. Youir second edition of the entry is much better than the first, but I would love to see an actual staircase instead of those rope ladders. That would really spice up your entry. I really hope you decide to create a staircase - It would look fantastic if it was made of rocks. I'm going to check back a few times before the competition ends to see if you've decide to make a staircase - just to give you a hint Other than that there's really not much to say. Excellent MOC and good luck in the competition. -
I'm already trying my best to help people with their entries, but I have a question for the staff: Am I only considered for the prize pool if I make critical feedback to ALL the entries? There are a few entries that I haven't been able to make critical feedback to, before a second or third edit of the entry has been made. I hope you understand my question

You've come up with a very unique storyline and I really really like it. As I look through your pictures I can't help but laugh. There are so many great things that I can't even remeber all of them. I really like the fact that the training school is hidden away behind those rocks. It's also a great idea to have a shark jump up from the water. Perhaps you should try to angle the shark's jump. You have used too many varieties of blue for the water. Sometimes it works with many different colours of blue, but I really don't think that it works here. I think you should stick to one blue colours, because right now it looks way to disturbing for my taste. I understand, however, that water turns darker, the farther away from land you get. Here's a perfect example showing that you don't need to use many different colours of blue, or even do SNOT water. (found on brickshelf - made by Apocalypse) The island itself could use some more plants, or something to clearly divide the different lessons into areas, as I feel that it's a bit crowdy. Perhaps plants or paths in the green grass could help create the illusion that all the different lessons are separated. You could add some grey bricks or tiles to create paths of rocks, if you don't want more plants on the island. My favourite part of your MOC is the student's black hat. That is very original, and deserved it's own mentioning. Good luck in the competition

Wow Derfel - excellent MOC and great storyline. I've always been a fan of your "work" and this MOC is certainly no exception. Even though every entry - good or bad - can benefit from tweaking here and there, it's okay that you can't change things in yours. But I guess a few things would have hightened your entry's winning chance, even though that chance is high already and supposedly will be by the end of the competition. Let me start by saying that I really love your rocks. It's great to see it done in a quite different style than what we are used to (not saying that I don't like the "usual" way) All those round bricks on top of all the rocks is definitely a funny idea. I see that you've done the same with your house. Lots and lots of round bricks. I'm not sure I agree with it to be honest. I think it's a bit messy, but it's different, and I respect different. The plants all over the MOC are excellent. I love how they make the MOC come alive. I would even have love to see more trees and palm trees in the background to close off the MOC from behind. The sheer size of this MOC made me awestruck when I first saw it. Your sense for detail in the rocks, the grass and down at the beach is a pleasure to behold, and the way you curved the wall in front of the canon, and the way you curved the dock is excellent. I especially love the dock, it's really a treat for the eye. One last thing: The rocky stairs from the house down to the canon looks fantastic. I love the stone cobbled layer. It reminds me of this: Good luck in the competition :)

Thanks for the quick answers It does look weird compared to LEGO Edit: Btw I only thought that M E G A B L O K S was this kind of toy: I never knew that they also made stuff that's compatible with regular LEGO
-
I just bought a batch of LEGO on ebay and this pillar came along with the regular LEGO I've never seen it before (maybe it's because I recently came out of a long Dark Age of approx. 16 years) Is it even a piece of LEGO? It fits with all other LEGO, but there's not a "LEGO" name printed anywere on the pillar.

I love your updated entry! In my opinion this entry can compete with the best entries when the competition is over - good job! Very well done. The only thing I still miss is a more piratey-looking lead-singer but you've already told us that you can't do that, and we are only here to give you advice, not tell you what to do Excellent MOC - my favourite part now, is the dead soldier under the stage
-
If this poll was created today I'd cast my vote on the newest sails from the Imperial Flagship. They are definitely the best looking sails so far. But that said, I've always loved the two classic colour schemes Red/White stripes and Blue/White stripes. They remind me of good childhood times
-
Couldn't agree more. Welcome back from your Dark Age Fine Tooth. I've still to build my first MOC since I came out of my loooong Dark Age.... your MOC is really great
-
It's been a long time since I litterally did the "jaw-drop" Wow - what an amazing set. The best thing is the sails - they are not <insert that tiresome argument>
-
@The Cobra: Haha - yeah. That's why I said that even at age 29 I had difficulties building this. I loved the modularity options back in the 80s @SirDillon: You're right. I actually did assemble this set wrong - I'll try to find the time to rebuild it and take new pictures to upload @Cardinal Brick: Yeah... I guess you're right. I forgot about inflation, but I do believe that 6 minifigs in a set this size is almost impossible to find these days.
-
As someone suggested, it would fit your story/idea better if you tried to present it with more details. Here's a great MOC witht the same kind of island that you probably had in mind: (by Matn) Of course you shouldn't build a shipwreck, but the actual sandy island could give you an idea. My favourite part of your MOC is the monkey holding the pirate's yarn. I love it. This MOC could become a favourite in the contest if you worked some more detail into it, because the whole idea of knitting and the monkey helping him, is excellent.
-
Hehe - this was certainly not something I expected when PTVII was announced - One of my favourite ideas so far in this contest. I must say however, that I disagree with your choice of minifigs. I think it would be much better if you had regular pirates instead of especially the leadsinger. I know that you placed the minifigs they way you did to create "action" but I think it's important that you can see them all, and at this point, the minifig on the far left is hidden behind his "fish-guitar" and you can't see the drummer very well either - I'd definitely change that if I were you. Another thing that I think would improve your entry is the stage floor. There's too much going on. I think it would look better if it was a large plate, and if you have enough tiles, I'd suggest you tile the whole stage. If not, you could try to tile most of the stage and then make room for studs to place your minifigs on so they won't fall off the stage due to slippery tiled floor I love your drumset! Very clever And I love the idea of using fish. I don't think you should change that at all.
-
Excellent idea - simple yet effective MOC with room for improvements in different aspects if you ask me First of: I would suggest that you try to take some better pictures. It seems to me that you didn't use the flash on your camera and that's why the pictures are blurry. Also if you want to take pictures in close-up, remember to select the "macro" function. The universal icon for that is a flower (a tulip actually) When you're using the "macro" function, images at a very close range will be much clearer. But the most important thing is to take the picture where there's a LOT of light (It looks like you had sufficient light as you took those pictures though ) The MOC itself: Even though I like what I see, I still feel that this MOC could benefit from more details, and perhaps a better colourscheme. Maybe a different pattern on the floor, a picture on the wall or a plant in a large pot. As somebody mentioned, it would definitely be a good idea to have the Governor and Captain interact in some way. Earlier this year, the was a Captain's Cabin Contest, and in that contest we saw numerous ideas for furnituring a room, and we saw different ideas that created the illusion that a desk perhaps had a feather to write documents with. Here's the "official" contest picture: I know you haven't attempted building a cabin, but still this pictures could give you numerous ideas for spicing up your MOC

6062 - Battering Ram Released: 1987 Pieces: 233 Minifigs: 6 Price (according to peeron.com) $19.95 The review: This set brings back a lot of memories for me. I was only 7 years old when it was released. It was one of my first "big" sets, and I must have been ready to start building sets this size. I can't remember how difficult it was to build for me, but I guess my older sister helped me build it the first couple of times. Even today she loves to build LEGO sets with her son. She says it's relaxing and comforting. That's how I feel about it to, also when I play with LEGO with my little daughter. The manual: Random page: As you can see, the small castle wall is placed on top of a bunch of green plates. Even today, at 29, it caused me some trouble, laying them out properly... They must be laid out like this: Well... the actual build is quite demanding, and that's why I think my older sister must have helped me back when I was only 7... But IMO a build that is a bit difficult is much more pleasing than an easy build, so this is actually a good thing. Let's take a look at the many different bricks and pieces: Here you have the piles of grey and black bricks along with the green plates: Interesting pieces include: Arches, hinges, a black door, four brown wheels and two grey technic bricks. The two technic bricks makes it possible to attach the castle wall to other castles in your LEGO collection. This adds heavily to the playability of this set. Because this set has 6 minifigs, you automatically get a lot of accessories: This set is no exception... you get a bunch of walls: Here are the 6 minifigs. Even though they are not as detailed as today's minifigs, they are definitely still a joy to behold. First, the Lions: (they are the ones on the Battering Ram) The Black Falcons (they protect the castle wall) It is not every day that you can show the back of a Classic minifig, and still find anything of interest. But here is an exception: Let's take a look at the black battering ram: First off, here's the base of the ram. Later, a large hammer-like device is attached to this base, and I'll show you via the pictures how this is done: The ram is almost ready - we just need to build the large platform on top of the base, and this is how it turns out: Front view: (The Black Falcons won't know what hit them) Back view: Top view: This is the defense post. A grey castle wall which can be folded in different angles because of the hinges that are built inside the wall. Front view: Front folded: Side folded: Back: Back folded: Top view: The bottom without the green plates. If you want to place this wall on a larger base plate, you can't fold the walls anymmore, and that's why the wall is placed on top of numerous plates. Top front: Verdict: Playability: 10/10 - 6 minifigs, a small castle, a battering ram and the possibility to use the castle wall along with other castles in your collection makes me give this set a 10. Great set! It's easy to MOD this set because of all the bricks you get. Design: 9/10 - Of course, today a set like this would look better, but back in 1987 this was top-notch. The only thing that is a bit annoying is the fact that the large hammer-like-thing falls of the ram if you are too careless. But the look of this set is excellent, and the opportunity to fold the wall is great. Pieces: 8/10 - Nothing special here. but you can build hundreds of things with all the bricks. I remember doing so myself. Price: 9/10 - I bet a set with 6 minifigs would be much moer expensive today... or you would even get 6 minifigs in a set with "only" 233 pieces. LEGO has gone downhill since the 80's if we are talking prices and minifig-count in sets.

Wow - this is my favourite so far. It reminds me of LegoJoe's "Small Entry" from last year, which was my favourite I love the curtains, the white large lamp with the candles, the cellar floor, the chair with the horns as legs, and the red and white roof/marquise. I also like how the Officer looks very sure of himself. Great job on picking that minifig head, as it fits this storyline perfectly. I also love the whole concept of your idea, and the way you've created the contrast between top floor and nasty cellar. If I should give you avice on anything to make even better, it would be to make the cellar even more disgusting. Perhaps include a rat, a spider og something nasty in that brown barrel. Congrats on making such a fine MOC

I like the idea of a fearsome and evil pirate, who loves his flowers Overall your MOC is good, but I miss more flowers. Why not go all the way and create a haven of flowers on that small space of 8x8 studs? In my opinion the more flowers the better, because it shows how deeply in love with his hobby he is. I know that adding more flowers means removing most of your green slopes, and that means less of an actually built MOC - however sometimes those very simple MOCs wins the heart of LEGO fans. Take a look at these simplistic MOCs - all great, all simple: They son't use many bricks, but they are great MOCs anyway. Because of the story they tell - just like your original and great story: The story here is shown on very limited space and with almost no bricks at all - still it works
-
Great entry. I am in love with your roof. I'd hate to see you change that later on in the PTVII contest. It is very special and people will remember it. I like how simple this entry is, yet you've created some great stuff - the roof, the musket repairing device, the tan dock with the beautiful water below - This is definitely something I think people (the ones who will vote) will notice, and also remember, which is extremely important in this kind of tough competition. I love your tan dock, but as someone suggested it will certainly look even better with brown tiles functioning as planks. I've been working on a completely black dock, and throughout my building, I've thought of the black colour as being made from lots and lots of thick tar. So if you've got a lot of black tiles, maybe you could replace the otherwise lovely tan dock, with a dock painted in thick black tar. I love the black shiny look, and if you take some good pictures, I think it will look really great right in front of the white house. Could you add a story behind "What Men Love" - what is it that they love? - If you come up with a great story, it will only serve as an even better reminder for the people who cast their votes at the end of this contest. I hope you can use some of my suggestions - but if not - then just remember that I really like your entry as it is. Good job
-
Hi - I like your entry, and would like to make some comments - perhaps they will help you improve your entry before the contest ends First of all, I must say that I love the very front part of your Island. The bridge, and the cliff behind it looks great. There's one thing about it though, that I feel may need some more work. There are too many different grey nuances on the cliff/the rocks. I like the rocky formation of this, but would like to see fewer colours. The bridge looks great with the many brown tiles and the un-even edge! Lovely work There is another thing about your choice of grey bricks. I would suggest that you tried to even out the colours that you've used, and had the rocks be in one or perhaps two colours instead. If you do this, I feel that it will look more natural. I'd also suggest that you try to create a softer transition from rocks to grass. These examples show amazing work with grey bricks as rocks, and green bricks as grass: And as many other has already commented on, you should try to build the side of your MOC in neutral grey bricks, and not using so many different colours. The picture I linked to above shows a great way to do this, with the grass on top of a rocky foundation. You can even see how the landscape isn't flat but full of hills. The elevated part of the island is nice. I especially like the hollow trees. I've never seen those parts before, so that was a nice surprise, and very original. I would like to see some better pictures of this "garden". You haven't taken a picture of this from a bird's view, but you should definitely do that. Maybe a lot more plants or perhaps making the fireplace even bigger, would make the grass field even more appealing to the viewer. I like the dirt path in the middle of the grassy field, but it would look even better IMO if you add plants along the path. Your story is good, and a good story is often essential to how a MOC is recieved in the LEGO community. So good job on that one. I get the feeling that this is certainly a place to relax, but get the feeling that the pirates are on the look-out, which you've mentioned in your description.
