I went to LEGOLAND in Denmark this summer, and of course I took a lot of pictures - especially of the newly opened "Star Wars Miniland" enjoy the photos Here are some additional pictures, I took (non-Star Wars) oh, and btw: I made a similar thread a couple of years ago with many pictures from the Billund Miniland - you can find it in the "General Discussion" forum

It is a stunning building - just like the rest of the modular series. I am so bummed that I never got to buy the sets from the very beginning. The discontinued models are insanely expensive on eBay and Bricklink. I don't mind the height difference between the buildings. As someone mentioned, you could just make a 16 stud gap between the Town Hall and the other buildings, and set up some trees/build a City Hall park :)
-
Wow - that looks so amazing. I can't wait to see close-up pictures. As far as I can see, I reaaly like your version a whole lot better than LEGO's official version

The Lego Dragon Knights Sets 1993-1995

Great work SirSven :) It's always a great pleasure to read your articles. -
Pandora: Yummy yummy review. It was an absolute joy to read through your review - and it is certainly also a joy to see how many people have begun to appreciate this new theme.

I'd suggest that you took a look at the review of the QAR here on eurobricks Plus, in the Black Pearl thread, there is a link to a LUGPol review of the Black Pearl You should be able to find the necessary information by looking at those reviews. Your questions about the two ships really can't be answered by anyone but yourself after you've seen the reviews
-
Thanks for blogging this and my CC review I really enjoyed reviewing both this ship and the CC - they are awesome ships, and I thank all of you for giving med such nice feedback - it means a lot :)

You're actually right... there is no shark in this set at all. I just got a shark with my ebay purchase and never even thought that it wasn't a part of the original set. I'll remove the shark from the "animal" picture in my review Cool that you noticed
-
Yes of course - I'll try and do them in the next couple of days I'm glad I changed your mind about this set EDIT: I've added a MUCH better INTRO-picture from a better angle and with the yellow plume in the Governor's bicorne and the black string put correctly in the mast on the cabin. I've also added a "frontal view" of the ship and a "bird's view" shot
-
Yeah it was the island in the background - It's not much of an easter egg, but I thought it was cute to include in the picture
-
Sweet sweet review. I love all of your photos. Even the angles are excellent. I am this close to buying this set. Its a great mid priced set
-
It was a simple mishap. At the bottom of my first post is a request to rename the topic :) I knew right when I saw the title that I had forgotten to give it a proper name. But thanks for the great feedback :) It's always nice when people appreciate hard work Edit: did anybody notice my little easter egg in the last 'sunset' picture?

I'm tired now - it takes a lot of effort to do reviews *goes to play Pirates of the Caribbean on his PS3*

Eurobricks member SirSven7 has added my article to his most excellent blog. His blog has, among other things, a series of articles on the various waves of Pirates sets from 1989-2009 - a very good and detailed information source. Check it out here: http://legosteveblog.blogspot.com/

Pictorial Review - 6274 - Caribbean Clipper Hello again - last week I wrote a review of the wonderful 6285 Black Seas Barracuda - this time I have reviewed my beloved 6274 - Caribbean Clipper, which I have had in my possession since it was released - many people dislike the ship due to its lack of a true cabin, but I'd like to take you on a tour that might make you change your mind If you want, you can always take a look at some of my other reviews: Pirate theme: 6267 - Lagoon Lock-Up 6270 - Forbidden Island 6273 - Rock Island Refuge 6285 - Black Seas Barracuda 6286 - Skull's Eye Schooner Other themes: 6353 - Coastal Cutter 6376 - Breezeway Cafe 6062 - Battering Ram And some shameless self-promotion: My article on the "classic" LEGO houses Join me in my celebration of a small but VERY well designed beauty - Governor Broadside's Caribbean Clipper released in the first wave of Pirate sets in 1989. You should also read SirSven7's excellent blog with articles on all the Pirate waves released by LEGO here - the blog contains many more great LEGO articles, including a Castle-theme rundown. Well, onto the picture-tour of the Caribbean Clipper 6274 - Caribbean Clipper Released: 1989 Pieces: 372 (peeron.com) 357 (bricklink.com) Minifgs: 4 Price: (according to peeron.com) $54.00 THE BOX Front Back Inside flap Sides As you can see, the box is quite large, and has a flap which makes it possible to take a sneak peak at the set and parts before actually opening the box. It also has pictures of the play features and some alternative models. God I miss those old boxes. When did they stop making boxes like this? ALTERNATE MODELS: THE MANUAL: The building process is pretty straight forward, although the lack of "piece call outs" makes it a little bit more difficult than sets today. I love a good challenge, so it's rather nice to build this set. VARIOUS PARTS: As you can see from the below picture, having only one middle hull piece makes the ship very small compared to today's ships. As a result, the set does not contain many bricks and pieces, but it was instead possible for many more families to buy the set, and still get to enjoy the glory of the Pirate Theme out on the open sea. The yellow parrot is a great idea for a figurehead. I just love it. There are only three sails on this ship, while the much larger Black Seas Barracuda from the same year has 5 sails. But hey, they are beautiful in blue/white. MINIFIGS: We get four minifigs with this set. I still can't decide whether or not that's too few or fitting. Perhaps instead of three sailors, one of them should have been replaced with a pirate in order to add to the playability of the set. A huge plus is the fact that the rare "Governor Broadside" is included in the set. I forgot to photograph him with his yellow "triple plume" - sorry BUILDING THE SHIP: Here's a fun little comparison shot between the Caribbean Clipper's hull and the Queen Anne's Revenge: I've decided to include some photos of the actual building process below. There aren't many steps in the manual, and it's actually a pretty fast build. But it is very enjoyable none the less. THE FINISHED MODEL: The cabin is very well designed, even without doors to close it off. The blue and yellow bricks go really well together, and this ship looks so much better than the later released 6271 - Imperial Flagship from 1992, and the 6280 - Armada Flagship from 1996. Yes I know that the Caribbean Clipper has more bricks, but it still seems as though the designer had spent much longer designing this ship, as the details from back to front are of a much higher quality than its younger "sisters". FRONTAL SHOT: BIRD'S VIEW: I have presented some positive views about this ship, but I still think that there is room for improvement. One thing that I would have loved is a door to close off the cabin, but even without, the ship looks beautiful. Perhaps the ship would have benefitted from having a sail above the cabin, just like the 6271 Imperial Flagship has. Another thing that would have been good, was to include a pirate instead of one of the soldiers. That's about it. The rest is perfection, it really is. I hope that you enjoyed the pictorial tour :) Well, now that I have shown you my view on this classic ship, there is not much more to do than release her, and let her sail into the sunset: Crap - I forgot to add a proper topic title Can somebody please change that? And btw my old review of the Skull's Eye Schooner has a mistake in the title too, if anybody can correct that as well. Dang... I obviously suck at writing topic titles

I have browsed through all your different MOC threads for the last couple of years, and I really really like your building style. Many great ideas but still simplistic (not in a bad way) Your buildings are very very beautiful, and the interior is excellent - even without all your cool stickers!! I LOVE how you use only clean shiny bricks It really adds something extra to the MOCs.
-
Oh dear God that looks awfull. The minifigs especially!

Yeah - I have also read your articles a couple of times. They are all a great read and I enjoy the trip down memory lane - especially the years between 1989-1993 including. Those were the years when I was still playing with LEGO - It is not until now that I can say that my 1989 collection is 100% complete. I was lacking BSB in my collection up until a few weeks ago - as some might have noticed from my BSB review of the set, I bought it very recently. Thanks for writing these articles - again, I really really enjoyed them. May I suggest that you took a look at my article on the "classic" LEGO Town houses? check my sig, it's there :) You are welcome to put it on you blog if you feel the urge to do so - although it's not very piratey
-
Thank you for the nice comments - you are far to kind :) I am not too keen on joining the excellent Reviewers Academy because I don't have the time to do reviews regularly :( But thanks for asking :)

Pictorial Review - 6285 - Black Seas Barracuda After being in love with this set from a distance for 22 years, I finally had the guts to buy one, even though I knew it would be quite expensive. Luckily the set was 100% complete with the original box in a quite good condition. I know that there is already a nice review of the Black Seas Barracuda, but I love to play with photoshop, and I decided to do my own review after playing around with a few ideas I had in mind. So without further ado, I give you my review of one of the finest sets ever released by LEGO. I have decided to do most of the review in pictures, with less text than I am used to. If you want, you can always take a look at some of my other reviews: Pirate theme: 6267 - Lagoon Lock-Up 6270 - Forbidden Island 6273 - Rock Island Refuge Caribbean Clipper 6286 - Skull's Eye Schooner Other themes: 6353 - Coastal Cutter 6376 - Breezeway Cafe 6062 - Battering Ram And some shameless self-promotion: My article on the "classic" LEGO houses I know how you guys just love to look at photos of LEGO, so there'll be approx 30 pictures all in all. I hope you enjoy the picture-tour The box for this set is HUGE - I don't think I've ever held such a huge box before - perhaps maybe the 6286 Skull's Eye Schooner box is the same size. I should compare them at some point - they are currently in my attic though. The good old days when boxes had flaps, cellophane and plastic trays to present special parts - those days are unfortunately over. It's a good thing that most LEGO collectors keep the original boxes to store their vintage sets in. The boxes these days are not as interesting - yes I know that the graphics are better, but it's not nearly as interesting to investigate boxes compared to the 1980's/early 1990's. They even had lots of alternate models on the boxes and manuals. Here are three of them: It wasn't as easy to build large sets back then - but that's completely fine with me. The harder the challenge, the better. The manual did have sub-model building, but no numbered bags, no specific piece call-outs or anything. Just plain ol' LEGO building as I love it To build a LEGO ship, you naturally need lots of special parts. The classic masts are so much nicer than masts today. A big set such as this naturally comes with countless of cool accessories - but one thing that I think sets today does better than back in the 1980's/1990's is that they offer more accessories, and of a much better detail. That does not, however mean that the parts offered with this set is bad - at all - just look at the next few pictures. There are lots of great parts to help enhance playability. The beautiful red/white sails: You get two of these: ...and two of these: The rowing boat is a great addition to the set and adds even more to the playbility: We get 8 minifigs and even a yellow lady figure head. All the minifigs are supposed to be pirates. We all know that Steve from 6286 - Skull's Eye Schooner was perhaps supposed to be a neutral trader of some sorts. But here, on the epic Black Seas Barracuda, all on board are swashbuckling swashbucklers - even the hard core female. First of its kind in LEGOLAND to have lipstick on. The prefab hull - nice classic brown color This is the only shot I did of the building process - I always forget to take photos when building sets, because I get so excited. This is not even a genuine "building process" shot - it was taken as I took the ship apart again for safe storage in the box After she is built, she is ready to set sail for the small hide-out Forbidden Island. The next handful of shots are all here to show you the magnificent design and color scheme of the ship. Kudos to the designer for creating this masterpiece. As you can see, there are of course numerous play features on the ship - it's an important detail that there is easy access to the captain's cabin - just to name one feature - the cannons, the anchor, the walk-the-plank plank. etc. etc. etc. It's always a bit difficult for me to give LEGO sets points, so instead I'll just say that this has always been the set that I've dreamt of the most, and after cleaning it, and ironing the sails, and building it, I was not at all disappointed that I purchased it. It is the most beautiful thing ever... I love how it shines as if it was 1989 again. I am even happy to own the huge box, even though it takes up a LOT of space in my house I rate this set 11/10 I hope you enjoyed the pictorial tour. Please remember to vote

Oh wow - they all look great. I'm sorry that you have to sell them. But as I said earlier, you might find the spare cash at some point later in life, and buy the sets again. on a side note: Please be aware that when you say 100% complete, the sets really must not lack a brick here and there. People who are buying LEGO sets really mean business :D Good luck selling them, I'll keep an eye out for your topic

Well, I've taken the time to look a little bit closer at the prelim. I'm still not as blown away as I had hoped to be before we knew what the ship could look like. The cabin is too weak for me - the windows with white frames look odd to me. Plus the sail above the cabin is placed too high making it look too empty around that area. It looks like the sails are pretty cool in black, and I hope they don't change them into sails full of holes. I also love the sides of the ship and of course the minifigs. Unfortunately, I think the front of the ship looks to bland. I've always loved the front and back of LEGO's ships, but this is too uninteresting. It looks like the sides of the cabin can open up like the do on SES - nice little play feature. I'm really looking forward to seeing the cabin from behind - if it looks good I might be more impressed than I am right now. One thing that could be a positive thing for this set is its somewhat low piececount. It could mean that it won't be too expensive

1st impression: Nice, but not as cool as I had hoped. The cabin area is not as I had hoped. But DAVY JONES - yay!!!! Thank you for the picture :) - I'll take a closer look when I have the time - the ship might grow on me
