Press Release 10237 - Tower of Orthanc
8BrickMario replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I'm probably gonna hold off on Orthanc now. I'm shifting my focus to the first wave of the Hobbit before the Desolation of Smaug sets come out. Perhaps Orthanc will carry over to Christmas, or, ideally, sooner. -
I'd love to see the twilight (white spectral with crowns, as seen in the LEGO LotR game) Nazgûl somewhere along the theme.

I'm not sure that's the right attitude. Why should we tolerate rudeness and negativity?

Yep, I mentioned the Black Gate spotlight earlier. It looks good! June (and July for Orthanc) can't come quickly enough!

Didn't see anything about LotR on the JUNE calendar they gave me the first week of MAY. They gave me the April one in March, too. Odd.

WOW. That is big. I need to figure out a space for displaying it that won't kill it by falling.

Lucky! Good May 4 for you! I won't be totally hopeless when searching. but even though the odds are so small (really, LEGO, don't do this again), I can't help but be disappointed when unsuccessful. Today I almost freaked out when a little kid was looking for him too. It's hard when the minifigs are out in the open! I kept on snatching up the packets other customers rejected to see if it wasn't him!- 1,076 replies

I never thought of referring to Gandalf and Saruman as old men...show some respect! (kidding, you are actually correct!) Let's stop arguing about Minas Tirith, please.

I went to the Target. Didn't have S10. LEGO store had a ton, but if I really did feel every one, no Gold. After every failure, I get depressed, and now I'm running out of places to look! I really want him, but I am starting to feel like I'll never get him.- 1,076 replies

I never said by LEGO, but they were mistakes in the preliminaries the world saw. LEGO released nothing, EB did, but those were still the prelims we saw.- 1,076 replies

8BrickMario replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The mohawk was one of many mess-ups in preliminaries. They gave the MM the mohawk, the Tomahawk Warrior the Warrior Woman's spear, and vice versa, they gave Medusa the 2007 Poison Ivy's legs, showed bird poop on the Sea Captain's legs, and left the TW bald! I don't like the Mechanic either. He's just ugly, which, IMO, is worse than being a boring dud of the series. I love your new signature. You've got a lot of time on your hands spriting S10s! Now try to tackle Medusa, if you think you can!- 1,076 replies

Which Hobbit Dwarf is Your Favorite?
8BrickMario replied to Deathleech's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Bombur is definitely my favorite. He has the ingenious hair/beard/belly piece and, in my opinion, is the cutest dwarf in LEGO form. It was about time they made a fat minifigure without only printing curved lines on the torso! Nori is good because of his awesome hair, Dori is good, Ori, though partially inaccurate, is cute, but my second favorite would have to be Balin. His hair/beard is unique from the rests' (of those who have a hair/beard combo) as it leaves his mouth visible and frames his face. He looks very sagely and I like him a lot. I totally agree with TeufelHund's "whimsy, wisdom, and nobility" description, and these reasons are why I like him. I also think that Fili, Thorin, Dwalin, Bofur and Bifur are very nice minifigures, too, but Bombur and Balin take the cake (especially Bombur, figuratively AND literally!). I don't like Óin, Glóin, and Kili. Óin is not that appealing to me, though unique. My biggest problem with Óin is the beard being a different color on his hair/beard combo. I think LEGO should have either left it unprinted or printed it dark gray, but not white. Glóin's beard, because it's unprinted, looks like a smaller, orange version of the Hagrid beard. Glóin is boring to me. Óin is overdone (too much beard printing), Glóin underdone (no beard printing). Kili is sort of ugly to me; the five o' clock shadow and his pursed lips on his calm face just bugs me somehow. Don't know why. I don't like angry minifigs as much, anyway, so Kili can't win. Winner: Bombur 2nd Place: Balin Losers: Kili, Óin, Glóin Runners-up: Dwalin, Thorin, Fili, Bifur, Bofur, Dori, Ori, Nori EDIT: SteampunkDoc, you compared Bombur to Friar Tuck. Perhaps it would be more accurate to call him "Friar Tuck-in"! P.S. There are better images of the dwarves on Brickipedia. Right now the highest quality photos are the ones of Dori, Nori, and Ori. P.P.S. I wish that tan short capes existed. Thorin is severely lacking one to bring out the fur on his torso and complete his cloak. Unfortunately, the short cape does not exist in tan. Or does it? If someone can verify, please do!- 81 replies

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
8BrickMario replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
What will you get with Smallville? It's only $50. -
Nice! My thoughts on each excellent funny of the batch: 1.The Extremis Soldier with a goatee would really look like Tony, but perhaps Pepper needs to get her eyes checked! 2.I like the use of those white grille pieces as shredded paper. You made the obvious joke of Shredder's name! The Computer Programmer makes the perfect geeky lackey! I wonder if a funny with Shredder and Two-Face could be made? They both have faces scarred on one side (opposite sides!), but I do not own Shredder. 3.The Piett/Snape thing is odd. HOW do they look alike by way of face? I still think of your "Exploding Snape" funny from time to time and can't keep from smiling! What a horrible translation blunder!

About the Decorator: I realized that a 1x1 round tile will not fit in the bucket properly! So correction: I wish the STUD (not tile, stud) was made in the same color as the roller's cylinder and the paint splashes on the Decorator.- 1,076 replies

Press Release 10237 - Tower of Orthanc

Why isn't the tower enclosed? P R I C E ! An enclosed tower would be ridiculously expensive. I don't mind. I won't use it as a centerpiece and will have the open side to the wall when I don't want to see it. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 10 Discussion
8BrickMario replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I went to my local LEGO store and eveyone was gathered around the bin of S10s. Everyone (my friend and I included) was finding minifigures that other people needed. After a short while, my friend and I were the only searchers. We had a time limit, and there were about 300 (or it seemed like it) minifigures, so if there was a Mr. Gold, we didn't find him. That Tomahawk Warrior is the bane of my Mr. Gold-searching existence! I got a Trendsetter, a Decorator, a Librarian, a Revolutionary Soldier,a Bumblebee Girl, and a Sea Captain. Paris, the Librarian, and the Decorator are my favorites. I like that Hilton's chihuahua can fit beside her on the stand. Cool things to do with the Decorator for playability: Take the medium azure cylinder off the handle and swap it out for dark gray (clean roller). Put a light gray stud in the mouth of the bucket and remove handle (paint can, but could be a cookie jar in other scenarios). I wish there was a 1x1 round tile in Medium Azure (same as cylinder' color) to put in the bucket for paint to add even more playability! Unfortunately, the piece does not exist in this color.- 1,076 replies

Review: The Lone Ranger 79108 - Stagecoach Escape
8BrickMario replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Licensed
I wouldn't say that TLG has given Tonto SEVERAL (sorry no italics-3DS again!) expressions. Between the Silver Mine and the other sets he appears in, he has four expressions. Not nearly as diverse as Captain Jack's variations. I feel sorry for Europe. The overpric-edness of the Stagecoach really stinks.- 39 replies

I've got a plan now for getting the sets I want: 1.Now to late July spent getting together money for Orthanc. 2. After Orthanc, it's open season on the other LotR sets! Black Gate (possibly x2), Rivendell and Wizard Battle are all in store for me. 3. Larger Tolkien sets (Bag-end, Goblin Town, Corsair ship) put on Christmas list. This is subject to change, however, if I can manage to get any of them prior.
