DC Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussions
8BrickMario replied to Ezekiel2517's topic in LEGO Licensed
I wouldn't be surprised to see some sets from the movie if DC pushes it, and Katana's look is really nice, since it's familiar. Harley looks okay, but why blue pigtails? Isn't she red and black? I wonder how LEGO would do those faded pigtails if it happens. -
I agree. I thought the Mixer's primary colors were a bit boring, especially when coupled with the white. This set's got more interesting (and more) colors.
-
Thanks to whoever changed the title. Much more appropriate now.
-
Wow! Three new face prints, some new colors, and a well-executed action feature (and the opening doors on the pods were a nice surprise)! I like the way they hid the brick for hooking it up to PF. I'm sold.
-
What impresses me the most is the new torso prints! That never happens in Creator sets! I also like the new double-sided head for the little girl who dropped her ice cream. And the face for the nervous boyfriend who's apparently afraid of heights. If I'm not mistaken, the black-haired boy has a new face, too. I don't like how two figs have the same hair and torso, though.

Is it possible to rename this topic "10274 Ferris Wheel", now that we know what the set actually is? "Sequel to the Fairground Mixer" doesn't make as much sense now that it's not speculation.
-
The style looks like the world of the LEGO Movie to me. A sandbox mode would be LDD all over again, so I don't know if that's what the picture really is.
-
A rollercoaster of "flying swings" would be pretty cool. I wonder how many rides (and how many years) this theme will make (and last).
-
Even though I like miniature vehicles, I think that's honestly sort of lame. I thought the minimodels were stand-ins for what appeared in the game, not exactly what we get. Does that mean there will be no properly-scaled vehicles?
-
Those round flowery trees are so charming and unique! I love them!
-
If you're referring to the Grand Carousel, that seems too fancy to fit in with a carnival/fairground theme. But a new version of a carousel would be nice. I also want a rollercoaster!
-
I suppose, but it would have been nice if the two fairground sets went together better than they do. Isn't it supposed to be the warm months' Winter Village theme? Whatever the case is, I definitely want to get this set, and I can't wait for the designer video.

That would require probably require a new piece, and since there's no minifig advertised, there probably won't be. -
That's pretty close! I don't care about transportation, but I think the baseplate is the least convincing part. Most fairs (at least those that include Mixer trucks) are on parking lots, so why a grassy hill?
-
I love the size of it...of course, that means more $$$, but it looks quite proper. It might have been nice for it to match up a bit better with the Mixer, but real fair rides don't match, either. It's a shame it can't be "packed up", but I honestly don't know how they could accomplish an impressive Ferris wheel and a transport for it as well. Very colorful, too. Are those transparent "dragonfly wings" on the spokes new in that color? Those light blue bricks will be useful for some, as well. I wonder what the tie-in poly will be for this set? My only concern is that the gondolas won't be sufficiently weighted down. I hope the rotation of the pods is smooth as the wheel rotates.

Official box pics. (Linked because Brickipedia images are always the kind that can't be pasted directly here.) -

I just seem like the current debate shows signs of a future controversy if minidolls are used. The basic thing I have a problem with is that using minidolls for the DC line, no matter what the target group prefers, seems to single out girls even more, since they would be spinoffs of a minifig-oriented theme. It would seem even more "girl-targeted" than usual, since DC sets have used minifigures otherwise. And I don't know about the tone or approach of the DC Girls comics, but dollhouse or scenery sets with few play features doesn't seem right for a comic-book theme, so I hope there's an action element somewhere in the sets. -

Perhaps that's what they're saving the pigtails piece for. But I think that's just as cheap as giving Batman boots in one set only. -

It's not print, it's molding, but the point still stands. They seem to be really proud of the new boots, so why give them to Batman in only one set? -
Oh, I love Ivy's shop. Good work.

I feel like LEGO's target audience (children) doesn't quite work with "DC Girls". DC is definitely a teen-adult audience, so a minidoll theme would be too girly and kid-oriented (in my mind, at least). Who are LEGO trying to draw in by making sets for this? Teenage girls? -
No, Harley would keep them! A pet shop is perfect for her. If you've read the New 52 series, she proves to be a serious animal lover, so this is already a great idea. It's very well-made, too, and appropriately conspicuous. I just don't think the purple on the bottom level works with her color scheme at all. Just my thoughts. Otherwise, this is great!

What I meant to say is that DC should be accessible, but since I realize it really isn't so universal, I was wrong. I suppose I went crazy, since "girl-targeted" has sadly equated "girly" to me. (See the Friends line.) My knee-jerk reaction was more aimed at the possibility of the sets using minidolls, while I think the sets would be just as good with minifigs. Unfortunately, boys aren't really accepted if they enjoy girls' toys past the age of 3. Males are under pressure to be "manly", and it's been perpetuated that boys should not be into girls' things. Male FOLs will get strange looks from other customers at a store for admiring a Friends set with some nice new parts. I don't like it, as one's tastes shouldn't be bound by stereotype, but that's where we are right now. I remain optimistic for both the comics and the sets, although I wonder if a female cast will be enough to attract a wider market. -

I'm all for expanded audience, but if minidolls are involved, I'm calling sexism and pandering on the sets. I don't particularly approve of gender-targeted marketing, but when it fails to be universal, the girls' products usually go overboard. I will not pass judgement until I see these sets, because if they're cool, I'll get them. Especially if we get Black Canary, Power Girl, and Hawkgirl in minifigure form! And Cheetah! -

I wouldn't need to buy them if they had mini-dolls. But a girl-targeted DC anything is ridiculous. Anyone is allowed to enjoy it. Since when are girls excluded?
