  1. Perhaps give Toyworld Coastlands a call? I helped organise the show last year and in 2008, but as I moved up to Tauranga at the start of this year, Ive had nothing to do with this years one thus far...
  2. That SSD auction finished on TM with no takers. Very interesting to see the 3 unanswered questions were all to do with the inevitable import tax. Has anyone here ordered one yet from Lego.com?
  3. Just looking on TM, and theres a few nice sets on there at the moment - UCS Imperial Shuttles and a SSD! However - it looks like the SSD seller is based in Australia - I see that postage is included, but I hope any potential buyers realise that they'll get stung at customs... Speaking of the SSD - I see the inventory is up on BL - I know what Im going to be checking out in the next few days:) While on the UCS theme, my local TW has the UCS Obiwans ship for $199.
  4. This is really great Legoman. Ive been watching all the media coverage today for the 12 month anniversary, and its just such a tragic series of events. Your creation not just reminds me of how beautiful the cathedral was before it was destroyed, but how strong and determined the people of Christchurch are in rebuilding and restoring their city. Well done.
  5. Im a huge fan of this set, and cant wait for it to arrive on my doorstep.
  6. Hey guys - does anyone have any of these hanging around that they dont want / need anymore? BL Link in ANY colour or condition. Im after around 50 of them. Was going to order off BL, but am trying to avoid the inevitably high postage cost from the US.
  7. About 2 years ago, I started a Y-Wing / Death Star trench diorama, but due to space issues, I decided to put it off till I moved to a house with more workspace. That time has come, and I have restarted building. It is based upon a rather wonderful plastic kit diorama by Tony Agustin (2004) (See http://www.starshipmodeler.com/starwars/ta_gold.htm ), and after being granted permission by the man himself to recreate this in Lego, I present to you the first teaser shot of this creation..... (with some Photoshop motion blurring) YWing cockpit by deftones1007, on Flickr YWing body by deftones1007, on Flickr Its going to be a big one, so be patient - I reckon it will be another year or so before I complete it.
  8. Oh no. no no no no no! I was just being facetious. This is the biggest scam Ive seen since that poor Nigerian prince emailed me wanting my bank details for Tax purposes.
  9. Look guys, I can vouch for this seller. I bought 2 UCS Falcons off him, 3 Cafe Corners, 2 Airport Shuttles and a Unicef Van - All for the price of a golden ticket and some magic beans. For realz.
  10. I converted mine to 18 wide a few months ago (see Here ), and i love it... When I get some more cabinet space, I'll restore it to its standard 32 wide form, but for now, it looks great!
  11. Good luck! - Last time I saw one was in Hastings in March - And I bought it! Ive talked to the Lego rep since then, and he reckoned they were all done and dusted. Best bet now is to get one from lego.com - where they are still at RRP of $299. However, it will cost you $80 to get it here - You could wait till May when they have their free shipping promotion, or keep an eye out here for when some one does a Lego.com order and piggyback off their order and split postage. The only ones ive seen new on Trademe are asking over $400...
  12. Anyone watching / watched the Cloud City auction on TM? Sold for $397 - a relative bargain, considering BL prices are around $650NZD Used..... I see the UCS ISD went for $736 too...
  13. I love this thread!!!! Its great to see what people find or stumble upon! My elderly neighbour 2 doors down needed a hand moving stuff out of her shed a while back, and while I was there I noticed a 40L (10.4 Gallon for you US folk) Bin full of familiar looking bricks. I asked her If I could take a look, and inside was pretty much all of the Classic space series with mint condition instructions and multiple Lego catalogues. She then mentioned that its been up in that box for decades and hasn't been played with since her Grandkids grew up in the early 80's. I then did the opposite of what my Lego obsessed personality normally would do, and encouraged her to keep them safe away for her eventual great-grandkids, and to NEVER sell them or give them away, as they would bring so much joy to kids for years to come. Shes gonna get in trouble if I notice that box missing when I visit again......
  14. Im keen on Cloud City - but am being a bit of a stinge with my top price, so will almost certainly lose.... Its one of those sets I'd like to have, but the upcoming SSD is beckoning... And yes, the more I think about it, posting it over in smaller sections would be quite economic....
  15. Checking Lego.com, and the NZ pricing for the Super Star Destroyer is up LINK Everyone who is going to be importing a US one put your hand up Lets see. $399USD is currently worth around $480NZD. Postage, at a guess, would be around $100USD give or take a few dollars. So the total is now $595NZD. If Customs get a hold of it, and charge you their import taxes etc, you'll be looking at an extra $140NZD ish. The total now sits at around $740NZD including postage. Hmmmmm - Is it worth a saving of around $130 for the hassle of buying through BL? Especially if you hold off till May and take advantage of the free postage MTFBWY promotion? Keeping in mind, my postage costs are a guess, based on some of the bigger sets Ive imported over the past few months, plus the exchange rate is all over the place at the moment, so it seems that Lego.com may not be hugely over expensive in this case. Ill do proper calculations and quotes once they pop up on BL. Maybe even find a seller who will split the postage up into several different boxes to avoid import taxes - could make a nice difference. Still - im excited about this set - its been a while since we had a massive UCS set
  16. Very nice review Velika314 Like sonicstarlight, I was a bit on the fence about this set, and only ended up purchasing the Blue half via BL. Its due to be released in Toyshops here in NZ in the next month or so, so I might pick up a full copy if the price is right.
  17. Im very grateful for the Ninjago line for those chains - they are very effective! And yes - you got it, Ninjago chains on lightsaber hilts, with a 3mm piece of tubing attaching them into a 1x2 jumper plate. Is actually very stable and hold together nicely. The only issue was sourcing enough ninjago chains, as they are a relatively new part, and not yet very common on BL. And No, I am not Taster Bricks. I did a few orders with them while building this scene, and was sent a 1x8 printed brick as a bonus. I wasn't intending on using it, but it actually looks pretty good under the Green grocer awning, and it kinda makes sense there too. Cheers for the comments
  18. Just having a look through TM, and it looks like a collector is getting rid of their whole collection. A few bargains here too.... LINK Is this anyone here by chance?
  19. Its still manageable to cart around the house, but I need to be super careful!..... I picked up a glass cabinet a while back, which has actually defined all of my dimensions, so It will be living in here from now on. (Cabinets are the BEST!!!!) I have 2 other shelves to fill now - Im thinking about a Winter Village / Polar express scene (Ive started modifying my Emerald night - especially the carriage length to a more realistic size) and a Maersk / port scene.... 20. Im a huge fan of the line, but i agree with Legoman - The ISD got to a ridiculous 70% or 80% off via clearance here in NZ, so it doesnt really make sense to design and market a follow up. Such a shame - I love my Midi falcon and ISD....
  21. Sorry - was the 10030 set re-released? I thought it was on continuous release from 2002 through till 2008, but was affected in the 2004 colour change when it also got the manual revamp (glued spine to spiral bound) - were there other changes to the construction?. I also thought that any re-release had a new set number?
  22. On that note - check this one out..... LINK. Ive informed the seller about date/age error and the fact that these are new and complete with helmet, head and air-tank on BL from $17. Just be carefull with the customs bill!!!! Mind you, and I've said it before, but the 10212 is prob my favourite UCS ever!!!, so just make sure you get it! Im going to be bricklinking a bit over the next month, so will reap some NZD goodness! My parents are also in the States at the moment, so they've bought me fallingwater and some random keychains and other legoey goodness.
  23. Looks Great! Shame I missed it - the weather wasn't very conducive to travelling last weekend Always next year though!
  24. I guess you could call them piles:) - They are sitting on large plates(floorboards), which are elevated off the baseplates. Also gives ample room for the lifelites cabling. I got the 'warm white' bulbs, which are quite, um, warm.... If you are thinking of having them in a lit room, Id suggest the bright white bulbs. Im going to be lighting the interiors eventually, which will spill some more light onto the pavement. Oh - and Allan, if you do order some, let me know, as they have a flat shipping fee, so will split postage:)
  25. New photos added today - should make the paving and bollards a bit easier to see:) Thanks all for comments thus far
