  1. Sweet!! $53NZD??? Thats a bargain for us kiwis - especially since the Australian price is $69AUD. Definitely getting 3 for that price!
  2. Easy decision for me - Im getting 3 and modding the hood on BTTF1 and BTTF2 versions. I also just googled 'Flux capacitor', to see if there was a spelling error on the original movie version - Nope - its correct.
  3. Great to see the Lego story on Campbell Live tonight. However, Im not sure why people balk at the idea of 50k on Lego - There are way more expensive hobbies that dont offer half the cognitive potential as our beloved brick! Looking forward to the Chch show guys!!!
  4. Always regretted not getting a 10181 Eiffel Tower - My local toyshop had stacks of them at one stage at a very good price, but I never made the commitment. Same with the 10177 Dreamliner. Oh well - after reading this thread, Im glad to still have my UCS Snowspeeder, UCS Falcon, Airport Shuttle and various others.
  5. Hang on - the last part of that video refers to the 3 models that are still in review for the Fall... But I thought we have already seen the results of this? Was this video filmed and released before the announcement of the Mars Curiosity Rover? Back on topic though - I love the idea that we may get 3 versions of the DeLorean - that would be pretty amazing!
  6. As a fellow kiwi, I suggest using a NZ based Bricklink store - there are a few decent sized stores here (Gelo, Ash's Brick store, JimMini Bricks....) That way you can get used to using Bricklink with a local seller, then spread out to overseas sellers once you are confident. I order using Bricklink often ( at least twice a month), and have never had any issues in over 100 transactions.
  7. True - With our exchange rate diving, it may actually work out as a good conversion. Currently US$320 is worth about NZD$412, plus if Lego hold out on the free shipping, it could be very worthwhile. I aslo could be my first purchase from Lego.com for quite a while.
  8. Just when they disappoint me with no UCS Sandcrawler, they redeem themselves with this beauty! What a fantastic model - It is so great to see Jamie so excited about showing it off. Bravo Lego, Bravo.
  9. I was actually thinking about this the other day. Here in New Zealand, our main eBay equivalent has a few sets on it that are priced exceptionally well - for example a UCS Falcon with a price of $NZD1650 (1330 USD) that is all original in great condition, with manual and all parts, and not one person has placed a bid. There are a few questions in regards to condition of box inserts, but with only 36 hours to go, no bids. If this was a year ago, It would have gone by now. I cant help but think that the recent release of the Red 5 X-wing may have shifted the mood of the Collectors market, and people are thinking that if they wait long enough, the UCS sets will eventually get rereleased.
  10. Always good to have another Kiwi on here. Theres a good thread running here http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=26231 with details of any sales around NZ and general banter for us too!
  11. Yep - The Y wing was from TM - advertised a while back. It had quite a few yellowed parts (all white), which I had spares of anyway. Fortunately, the really rare parts from that set (The dark orange bricks with handles, the tubing for the struts and the wheels for the engine) were all perfect. I managed to negotiate the price due the high yellowed content. Y-wings are pretty expensive these days, so I got a really awesome deal out it. Just waiting for my B-wing to arrive now!
  12. I just used the lever bases in their place. So the levers, without the levers.... Still looks great though.
  13. Trust me - No-one would be more stoked for TLG to rerelease those levers than me! Having just completed Bricklinking the Falcon, ISD and the DS2 (sans the uber expensive parts), decent priced levers would be amazing!
  14. Are you sure? They look white to me. If you have a look at the 3 of them at the bottom right, there is a LBG plate to the right, and a DBG tile to the left. I gotta say though, Im very impressed at the part usage for the fountain.
  15. Managed to persuade a US Lego fan to get me a UCS B-Wing during the 4 May sale. Total cost, including postage? $168NZD. Thats 60% off the NZ RRP, delivered to my door. Add that to my recent purchase of a UCS Y-wing for $140, and I've scored some pretty awesome deals recently.
  16. This is my solution... The main part is the Death Star planet set hemisphere, and the are 12 'macaroni' 4 x 4 pieces to make the main circle shape inside and at the base. As the hemisphere part has 4 studs and a technic hole in the bottom, it is very easy to connect the the rest of the structure. It also has the stripes along its surface, so it almost looks like some fuel lines or other engine detail. The 4 connector tabs also add to the detail (Even though an ISD engine only has 3 'tabs'). Honestly, for the price and the clean look, I think it is a pretty cool solution.
  17. 'We'll be happy to place your order again' says to me that they will do it for you at the special price... Im probably wrong, but it might be worth a shot?
  18. Ive got a great solution! Will tell all and post pics when Ive finished the modding. Best part is, the donor part is less than $5 each. Sweet.
  19. Yes - the ISD is very tricky to 'BL' - especially those engines! According to BL, they are over $100 each. Although I managed to get those parts a few years back for a lot cheaper, I am actually modding my ISD at the moment with a completely different part - same with those magnets! Ill post images here on EB when im finished. Just remember though, you can build these models using some substitutions along the way - Its your model, build it how you want! Its never going to be 100% complete if you dont have the manual, box and display plaque.
  20. Ouch! Thats a fair chunk of money for one model! Ive been bricklinking the Falcon, the ISD and the DS2 all at the same time, starting back in 2009 and just chipping away at them. I 'finished' last week, (not including those expensive parts you mentioned - they have always been extortionate!!). Total cost $1951 NZD - or $1660USD - including all shipping costs. Yes - thats a lot of money, but spread over 4 years, its not too bad. Many pieces I bought were back when prices were much less than they are today, and I realise that many parts have now inflated considerably. Timing is key I guess - could you imagine if TLG started producing the LBG levers or the LBG Mast Rigging piece again?
  21. Ive got to recommend the Shuttle for several reasons. The sheer size of the shuttle is epic - especially when the wings are unfolded. The finish is so smooth and so accurate, it almost defies the fact that it is made of Lego. The minifigures look great inside, and the building techniques are very cool, and quite challenging - especially the wing construction. The shuttle is also bound to only get more expensive, while the X wing is only just starting out - and perhaps liable to be discounted somewhere in the future.
  22. Thank you to all respondents. This thread can be locked if required.
  23. Hi all - I see the May 4 special for the US is the 10227 B wing - $99.98USD. In New Zealand it is still listed at $449NZD (or 383USD). Is there anyone out there who would be willing to snap up a set for me, and on send it to New Zealand? I would pay all shipping, and will throw in something extra for the time and hassle - Oh, and you get to keep the poster and Han fig too. Please PM me if you are able to help. Many thanks!
  24. Ive seen 2 Mr Gold's sell on TM so far - $650 and $750 I think.... I guess we cant expect to see too many here in NZ, but in all honesty, If I got one I would sell it too - more money for Classic Town sets!
  25. The May 4 specials have been uploaded on Lego website - and I've got to say I am quite disappointed. The savings equate to around 7% off the SSD, DS and R2 sets. The B wing and new X wing are at normal RRP. Yes, you do get free shipping, the Han fig and a poster, but even Toyworld does better than this on a regular basis. I'll be curious to see what the equivalent set savings are when the US time ticks over.
