  1. This piece has just popped up on a local Lego page, and we are having trouble identifying it... Any ideas?
  2. Holy mackerel! Thats unbelievable! Ive got mixed feelings about that auction. Really, I do. Even with no figs or instructions that is a steal!
  3. I remember the same thing happened in the US when the UCS B-Wing went on sale for $99USD. The market got flooded and many 'real' fans missed out. I guess its the name of the game - some are in it to make a few $$. And thats their business. I see there are a few Exo-Suits on TM for a fair bit higher than the RRP - more than likely because its sold out on Lego.com. I wonder how many X-wings will show up after Toyco had 40% off. I got one, but its now built and proudly sitting next to my other UCS sets.
  4. Thanks for that! Just picked up the Red Five X-Wing for $239.
  5. Ive noticed something recently with S@H orders. I got an order valued at approx $450 last week, but the senders address on the box was from Lego NZ - PO Box xxxxx, Auckland. Despite the fact that I know very well it came from overseas. Maybe that has something to do with the lack of import / tax. I seem to remember reading a while back that the Lego website stopped saying that all taxes and import duties were included. So - I assume that via S@H means no import duty, but via YS and above $400, then you could be liable.
  6. Great replies - thank you all for your input. I'd like to go 9V, so may just exercise patience and save up little more to make it happen. Now... Dark Bley or Dark Grey tracks.... hehehe. Will go off and check ME's status.
  7. Hi all - New to Lego trains here - I am just about to start work on a medium sized setup which involves a few tunnels and 'dark' areas. I am weighing up a PF or 9V setup and Im curious how the IR sensor works when a train goes in a tunnel, or in my case, behind some MDF and plywood. My question is, does the IR sensor rely on a constant signal from the remote to keep going, or does it just switch between speeds when the user changes them? I would like to do 9V, but the cost is quite prohibitive. So am hoping PF will be fine when the train goes behind some scenery / tunnel. Thanks!
  8. Yippee! - glad to see other people using that method to create the engine detail. Its so cheap, and very effective!
  9. Looks like it - I have an open cart with a few sets in it and it does not apply free shipping till over $400. Boo - I was hoping to get Benny's spaceship, Ecto 1 and the exo suit delivered for free. may have to add more in now.
  10. I just put itunes on random and it comes up with a whole bunch of stuff - One minute its Meshuggah, the next its Beyonce. I just like some background music - not too worried about genre. Oh - jodawill - try Meshuggah, Mastodon and Gojira for some interesting Metal:)
  11. I saw this the other day on another website, and am still stunned. The scale, the detail, the sheer beauty of this model are all breathtaking. I'm also working on a large scale ISD and this beautiful example only makes me more determined to do a good job of it. Well done!
  12. So - interesting story.... Went into my local TW today, and asked when they were getting more Simpsons houses in. The manager said he had 4 out back, as head office had told all stores to hold some back as they were going in the next catalogue as a promotion. Turns out the promotion got cancelled, so they were going out on the shelves for the upcoming QB weekend sale - which is 15% off Lego. So yeah - looks like they were instructed to not sell them all in the 'choose the discount' promotion. Interesting!
  13. Thats rough! I know personally that some TW's remove the high value stuff off shelves before these big sales. Not cool. My TW here in Tauranga is going full steam ahead with the sale and all sets are available - Simpsons house included! Am still not sure about Orthanc or Simpsons.... Toss a coin time?
  14. Im not sure whether to get The Simpsons house or Orthanc... $279 each with the 30% voucher.
  15. I guess Im a big believer in the market deciding the true 'fair' price, so I mostly do low reserve or even $1 reserves on most of my auctions, and let people duke it out. In saying that, there is a UCS Falcon on TM at the mo which has a start price of $1500, BN $1800 - which I think is quite reasonable. Be nice to see some actual pics though. Would I let my collection go? Maybe some day, but not right now - I have a Star Destroyer to build:)
  16. I have a a feeling I'm about to get flamed..... Ive just seen that big UCS auction was relisted. I asked this question - 'Hey - constructive feedback here - check out brickpicker.com for a great indication of what these sets SELL for on ebay. Good luck with the sale.' Ive got a brickfolio for all of my sets - including all of the ones he is selling, plus a few more (Grievous, Imp shuttle, Naboo, SSD, B wing...) and my used value comes in at USD $6200 or around NZD $7200. People need to realise there is a MASSIVE difference of value between sets that are advertised and sets that sell. Ive seen some UCS MF's that are supposedly AFA graded that are advertised for USD $10000. Do they sell? I doubt it. Oh well. Perhaps he is asking for more so he doesnt have to sell them:)
  17. Where was the show held?
  18. The Q&A on the auction are pretty entertaining... I'll be honest, and say that if I could could get $20k for my UCS set collection, I'd sell them in a heartbeat. Is that bad?
  19. Yeah - saw that. I too will be very surprised if it does go as is. He would be way better off selling separately, as there would be people around who need 1 or 2 sets to complete their collections - like ME! I'd hope for that price they are in top condition too - no ageing, yellowing, damage, missing parts etc. Oh well - good luck to him!
  20. Is that shipping now? I see the expected date is 21 May.
  21. Classic town! Pretty much everything in the 1988 - 91 phase.
  22. Had a chat to the folks at Tauranga TW about the Simpsons set and figs - they reckon June.
  23. Realistically - it should be Nitrogen:) My favourite and most used element is the 'Tile, Modified 1 x 2 Grille' in light bluish grey.
  24. Totally subjective, but MY favourite set, and therefore the best set ever in my eyes is the 6399 Airport shuttle. Sure, the playability was a bit limited with the track layouts and its a real pain to incorporate into town scenes, but I love it to bits. It still makes people Ooooh and Aaaaah today, even though its 23 years old. Its the only set I'd never ever sell from my collection - and that includes all the SW UCS sets and most of the Classic Town series.
  25. Yeah - My brother lives in California, so may get him to go to the Disneyland lego shop to get one, debox and post over. It would have been nice to support a local business, but not when savings of $250 can be had!
