LOTR & The Hobbit 2013 Set Discussion
General Magma replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I've decided to create a list of all figures included in the sets so far using LEGO LOTR game screenshots, should be just about right (if not completely) judging by the prelim pics we've seen: Wizard Battle Gandalf the Grey (with hairpiece) and Saruman Council of Elrond Arwen (blue dress), Elrond (Rivendel clothing), Frodo (no cape in the set) and Gimli The Black Gate Aragorn (Gondor outfit), Gandalf the White, Mouth of Sauron and 2 armored orc soldiers (helmet and breastplate) Corsair Ship Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas, King of the Dead, 2 Dead Men of Dunharrow (both varied), 1 Corsair Pirate and 2 armored orc soldiers (helmet and breastplate) Yes, I know, the orcs pictured are Moria orcs but it's the closest thing I could find to armored versions of LEGO LOTR orcs with helmets. Now here's hoping for new helmets on the orcs. Re-used helmets would be pretty lame since there are some great orcish helmet designs they could make (a) mold(s) of, if not just one that seems generic enough.- 7,499 replies

Problem is, Brickset only has these 4 sets listed. The rumor was 8 sets, yes, but the rumored list that came with it also told us there would be a larger Orthanc set. However, why would they release an Orthanc tower set and another set containing a bit of the interior of it in one wave?- 7,499 replies

LOTR & The Hobbit 2013 Set Discussion

Thanks, we've been waiting for this news regarding the LOTR/Hobbit sets of 2013 for months! But now, the news you've all really been waiting for... Here are the first pictures of next year's LOTR summer wave: http://www.flickr.co...90/in/contacts/ Wizard Duel Saruman and Gandalf the Grey Council of Elrond Elrond, Arwen, Frodo and a dwarf (Gimli?) The Black Gate Aragorn (Gondorian outfit), Gandalf the White, Mouth of Sauron and 2 soldiers (presumably orcs, but I hope Gondorians) Corsair Ship Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, King of the Dead, 2 Corsair soldiers (both different), Corsair captain, 2 Corsair soldiers Compared to my set ideas (from the Future LOTR/Hobbit sets, December 2011): Saruman's Betrayal Minifigs: Gandalf the Grey and Saruman. Components and scenery: Palantír holder, Saruman's chair/throne and an entrance gate. Arrival in Rivendell Minifigs: Frodo (no coat), Bilbo (old, no coat), Elrond, Boromir, (no cape), Arwen (dress) and Aragorn (Rivendell clothing). Components and scenery: The location for the Council of Elrond, with several chairs, some sort of round block in the middle with the ring on it, walls around the place with a baloncy at the end, and a door or staircase somewhere leading away from it. As for the part of the movie where Bilbo is, there could be a loose bit with part of a balcony and a door leading into some sort of apartment. The Black Gate Minifigs: Aragorn (Gondorian outfit), Éomer, Mouth of Sauron, 2 orc soldiers, 1 Rohirrim soldier, 1 Gondorian soldier and an armored troll. Components and scenery: The Black Gate itself in a pretty large scale, Brego (Aragorn's horse), Mouth of Sauron's black horse and maybe some scenery to add to it. Paths of the Dead Minifigs: Aragorn (ranger clothes), Gimli, Legolas, 2 Dead Men of Dunharrow, The King of the Dead, 1 Corsair captain and 1 Corsair spearman. Components and scenery: One of the Corsair ships of Umbar with sails and Paths of the Dead cave entrance with some skulls.- 7,499 replies

Those are some good ideas, and great designs. I'm just wondering what other contents a set like that might have, though... The hooded Rohan soldier reminds me of a custom I did, not long ago:- 7,499 replies

How is it unlikely? I don't get your reasoning (and that of those others who said the same thing). They had Uruk-hai and other "scary" looking creatures in sets, and even if the reasoning is the fact the Mouth of Sauron had his head cut off, so did Lurtz, even in the LEGO LOTR video game. The only reason they might not want to include the figure is the fact that it wasn't in the theatrical release of the film, yes, but still.- 7,499 replies

If it's March, then I wonder why we haven't got a full list (or any pictures for that matter) yet... Looks like TLG is really doing well keeping their stuff under wraps, especially nowadays... what a shame.- 7,499 replies

Smaug, trolls... good enough for me. I myself was relieved there were no talking animals that originate from the real world, it might've been weird.- 7,499 replies

Thanks all. Yeah, I preferred to have a black cape on Aragorn, though. I gave Éomer's dark green cape to the Rohirrim soldier instead. I gave Théoden, Éomer and Boromir black gloves, and Gimli has been given one pair of brown gloves. Many Rohirrim soldiers did not wear gloves, it was pretty varied, as was their armor 'n all, so I wasn't bothered by that, but a few duplicates will have gloves.

I'm assuming the Dol Guldur battle will take place in 'Desolation of Smaug'. There were no large battles in 'An Unexpected Journey' (just like FOTR), so the second film would have Dol Guldur, and the third would have The Battle of Five Armies.- 7,499 replies

Wanted: LOTR/Hobbit Figures
General Magma replied to General Magma's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
One does not simply "just" buy the sets. Not everyone's got money growing on their backs, or enough space for that matter. I mostly just need the figures, extra pieces from the sets are always nice, but I'm really looking to collect the figures here. If nothing else works, I'll have to wait for a sale to be able to buy the sets without feeling like I've spent way too much.- 13 replies

Thanks everyone! newwavejunkie: Yeah, I disliked the fact that some of the figures that were supposed to have gloves didn't have them. So, the first thing I did with the Boromir figure months ago was giving him a new pair of hands... well, gloves. Examples of other changes I've made to figures were giving Pippin a brown cape as he should have (before Lothlorien), and Aragorn a black cape.

Hard to take a site that rates the yearly cloned Call of Duty games a 9+ each year seriously.

LOTR & The Hobbit 2013 Set Discussion
General Magma replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Only are Fell Beasts sleek, snake-like creatures, not a form of bricky-organic. The video game clearly seems to display the plans they have, more or less. The Balrog was brick built, the Fell Beast was not. A Pelennor Fields set could work with a Mûmak and maybe an orc catapult or perhaps a siege tower.- 7,499 replies

That's why we'd be more likely to see armored Merry with Éowyn in a Pelennor Fields set, perhaps with a Mûmak and a Siege Tower if they have to add something to the set for a proper piece count, and the Witch-king in a Minas Morgul set, and otherwise Minas Tirith would work along with a Fell Beast, too.- 7,499 replies

No, I'm sure that everything will be molded, save for perhaps a few normal pieces you can add in. The head would be a separate mold connected to the neck.- 7,499 replies

Hello everybody. I wanted to share with you all my newest (LOTR) MOC. I decided to make a MOC based on Amon-hen, and chose Boromir's Last Stand for this. Perhaps I'll do a second Amon-hen scene in the future, probably the Seat of Seeing with Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli. But for now, this will do... "As the Fellowship continues their journey past Lothlorien, they are held back at Amon-hen and are confronted by a group of Uruk-hai scouts and their leader, Lurtz, to separate the Fellowship from each other and to take away the Halfling who carries the One Ring... But even Boromir, son of Denethor II of Gondor, could not resist the power of the One Ring, and after a failed attempt to take the ring from Frodo, he was faced with one chance to redeem himself. Slaying Uruk-hai after Uruk-hai, Boromir displayed his strength in battle, but none of this lasted, for the Uruk-hai leader Lurtz had already arrived; bow in hand, with the first arrow to be fired..." __________________________________________________________________________________ Hope you liked it, C&C is welcome as always. LOTR & The Hobbit 2013 Set Discussion
General Magma replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I sure hope it's a full LOTR wave, not LOTR and Hobbit mixed. Otherwise, our only chance of seeing Gondorians next year would be the Black Gate set, and what a slim chance it is... 'Wizard Duel' would normally sound like a small set to me if it weren't for the Isengard build we had seen earlier. Also, I can see a Éowyn vs the Witch-King set being a problem for TLG, because, really, what else could they put in the set besides that large, molded Fell Beast? The piece count wouldn't be very high. If they can't make it like the popular suggestion, then perhaps the Witch-King needs to be in a different set with his Fell Beast, and an armored Merry with Éowyn in a Pelennor Fields set.- 7,499 replies
