I've followed the 2015 thread and I loved all the reactions on the 60098 train, as it seemed to come out of nowhere I hope we're going to have a same surprise in 2016.

For those interested: the extra footage video is online! -
Like Spock said, Arduinos work also on 12V trains and PF trains. The reason why I use 9V is mainly because of the batteries. Next to that, if you control the voltage on a track, you control where the train stops. This is the case with the 9V system. If you have a PF situation, you can control the trains by emitting control signals from your Arduino to control the trains. But you don't know where it is so you need extra sensors to make it stop where you want it to stop.

10027 train shed: dark bluish gray?
AlmightyArjen replied to AlmightyArjen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
That mixing in the same set doesn't sound like Lego: mostly they are pretty keen on quality issues. The difference between dark gray and blay are significant according to me. -
10027 train shed: dark bluish gray?

I don't have the boxes but I have both instructions. It turns out that both instructions have the same picture and it seems that the bricks there are dark bluish gray. -
10027 train shed: dark bluish gray?
AlmightyArjen replied to AlmightyArjen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Ah yes, thanks. I guess there's nothing more I can do than replace the dark gray parts with dark bluish gray parts, since I want both sheds to be as one big shed. Well, Bricklink, here I come... -
Hi guys, A while ago I bought a 10027 train shed from a dutch 2nd hand website. This train shed had for the dark gray parts dark bluish gray parts and I thought that was normal. I thought it was odd that the set had the new dark gray colour and the old light gray colour. I just assumed that the old gray colours weren't replaced at the same time (that replacement took place during my dark ages). This week I got another 10027 train shed and that set had dark gray (old) parts! So I checked Bricklink and it turns out that according to Bricklink the (old) dark gray colour should be in the set. So now raises the question: could it be that Lego sold both versions during the time it was for sale? Or did the seller of the first set rip me off by replacing all the dark gray parts with dark bluish gray parts? He did a great job though, even the 9V rails are dark bluish gray!

I must warn you: they don't come very cheap... -
I normally don't like Lego Friends, but when I do, I think it's awesome! Nice job, very good idea!

No indeed, the white poles aren't hollow. So I used the "not done way": I drilled them. Difficult job since you have to drill exactly straight (I don't have a colomn drill), there's no extra margin. Not every pole went right so some have a little hole in them. -
My girlfriend was away for the weekend...

She returned when the trains were still running. Here reaction: "OMG, sooo much work! And I didn't know Lego trains could make such a noise!". 5 running trains in a hollow living room generate indeed a lot of noise... There's a funny story about that. We saw that there was one barrier missing, but we couldn't find it anywhere. It turned out that the HE train had pushed it along the bridge, dumping it beside the rails on the other side of the room :D -
Love the Maersk ones, defenitely gonna buy some :)

Thanks for all the nice comments! Yes! I'm getting the greater part of the attic all for myself. The surface will be less big than in the above video though. But the most positive point is that I can build more complex automated systems as I can set it up and leave it like that. Now I have to set it all up in the living room, commission it and shoot a video in one weekend. Especially commissioning takes a lot of time and when I can leave the layout like it is, it's gonna be less stressful for sure :) -

Yes, I don't want to bother my girlfriend by claiming the living room when she's at home so when she's gone for a weekend, I grab my chance The trains were not automated, there are two crossings that are automated and one level crossing. There were 5 trains running, all with their own loop. -

All the buildings were already built and the bridges too. And indeed, 9V track is about 10x faster than 12V ;) -
A few weeks back my girlfriend was away for the weekend. Since a few months we're living in a temporary rental house (a new house is being constructed right now) and this house has a nice big living room/kitchen. So I took the opportunity to build some nice long bridges and set up a huge layout. Ofcourse a video has been shot! Enjoy

Impressive work! I really like the length of the union pacific. All the details, really amazing!

This is really awesome, I love the looks of that crane!

Incredible, all those long trains, really nice to see all of them! I have a long Octan train. I've built the loc myself, using the 7755 as a basis. And a video in action:

Ah now I understand what lighningtiger said! Well, for once this was nice, maybe I'll do it some other time wit multiple trains, haha
