Love it, looks awesome. Like a monorail could look like in a modern set. :)

Hi all, I was wondering what would happen if a Lego train would crash into a Lego skyscraper. Obviously the skyscraper was built in a way that it had to come down (otherwise it would be too boring ofcourse). Well, here is the result :)

I put the bullet action camera (Ion Air Pro 2) always low, this has a few advantages: - not top heavy - wobbling of the camera is not present (if you put the cam high, it resonates a bit from left to right after a curve) Due to the 170/180 angle lens, you can hook the camera wagon directly behind a high wagon without losing much sight. Maybe one small 16 stud long wagon between the camera wagon and the train that you want to show. This video shows the camera on the end of a 28 studs long wagon, directy behind the train: In my opinion an extra high POV is then not necessary, only when you want to show the roof of the train

I've uploaded an extra footage video of the coal terminal. In this video are shots that weren't in the original video. Enjoy! :) -
Voltage input and output on 9v train regulator
AlmightyArjen replied to toxicbananna's topic in LEGO Train Tech
You could also use an old 12V lego train transformer to give your trains some more juice. But I really wonder why you want to do that since on 9V the trains run already pretty fast. Next to that: long time on a voltage higher than 9V will make the motor wear out much sooner... -
Is there already a date set when the 60098 will enter the market?

Amazing... Just amazing...

I think the easiest way is to use multiple L298 modules. Each module can drive two separate motors. (That's the way I do it) If you want to control 12 motors all seperately without using a multiplexer, you must assume 3 I/O pins per motor: - 1x EN (with PWM control for speed regulation) - 2x direction control That means 36 I/O pins, so you would need an Arduino Mega for that (also to have enough PWM-outputs)

^^Maybe because there's a quite large crane in the set?

The sensors I use have a range of 5cm and since they use IR light, they don't have problems with daylight.

I have nothing to add Only a tip: I use optical sensors which give a 0 when activated. That whay you can use the sensors very easily for interrupts so your arduino doesn't have to wait for the signal, but can do some other stuff in the meantime (but maybe interrupts are something for a bit advanced programmers). I was also writing a little how-to for the beginners among us. I'm planning to put it on my website, but I have to upload the whole website first, since it's still in developer mode But once you know how to control a track with an L298, the limitation is only learning by doing and a bit of imagination :)

I don't have experience with that platform: too expensive with the amount of sensors and actuators I use... -
Fully automated Lego train coal terminal
AlmightyArjen replied to AlmightyArjen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Thanks but won't happen: the NXT platform doesn't offer enough possibilities to build these kind of things and is waaaay more expensive ;) -
Fully automated Lego train coal terminal
AlmightyArjen replied to AlmightyArjen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I use these sensors: http://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/sensors/sensors-proximity/sharp-distance-sensor-5cm Never tried to hide them between the rails though. I think it would fit if you raise the rails with one or two plates. Yes and every time I try something more complex. During the commissioning of the coal terminal I sometimes thought: "why am I doing this again?". -
Fully automated Lego train coal terminal
AlmightyArjen replied to AlmightyArjen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
No I use IR optical sensors to detect wether there is a train or not... A lot of failing was happening during the commissioning of the coal terminal: here's an overwiew :) -
I think that 9V can be enough to make the motor of the switch turn. You could make a convertor cable from PF (middle two wires) to the 12V plug that goes into the motor. Hook up an IR receiver and a battery box and you're ready to go. But I'm not sure if 9V is enough to make the 12V switch motor turn...

Yes I want to make a how-it-works video on that. I already explained a bit on my Work-In-Progress channel. Here's the video that explaines how the unload procedure works: -
