[COMIC] "Kings And Queens Of The Sea" - Episodes
Dreamweb replied to Dreamweb's topic in Pirate MOCs
Unfortunately I don't think there will be new episodes. I just really don't have the time. I prefer to spend all the time I have for LEGO building (a new ship is under construction). But I can spoil what would have happened in the future episodes if you wish... -
An interesting timing to release a set like this now. Surely these are recycled parts, but as far as the Pirate theme goes, those are still new minifigs in the theme, previously unseen in this configuration! Hope they are a sign of new things to come, by which I obviously mean standard, non-licensed LEGO Pirates, which is the way they should be! PotC weren't that bad but they were overpriced like all licensed sets are, and I for one am not a fan of the movies. The original Pirates are definitely the way to go - enough Sparrows, give us more Brickbeards, Broadsides and the like!

That's a very nice review and a very nice set, I might get it when it comes out. I find one thing strange though. The first thing that came to mind when looking at this water slide was - so after sliding they fall into the water, right where the ship's propeller is supposed to be. Ouch!

It looks very nice! I built the Ranger Plane myself 3 years ago - you can check it out here if you're interested. However yours is obviously bigger and more detailed. My only complaint is that the wings seem too short. Other than that it's a great MOC and a good represantation of the cartoon plane. I'm a big Rescue Rangers fan and I'm also aware that they have quite a fanbase in Russia.

Me too!

This was my first Pirate set too! Well, techcically one of the first 3,but I got all of them at the same time which makes all of them the first ones. The design is not that good, but it was a perfect army builder.

Mistake in LEGO's minifigure timeline?
Dreamweb replied to badbob001's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You're right, the short legs were introduced in 2002. Somehow I thought they appeared in some 90's City and Train sets to represent children, but that must've been my imagination, or perhaps whishful thinking. -
In Polish catalogues we had the Sea Star and the the Sea Lion too. But the really weird thing is that the BSB was called the Dark Shark, but the SES was called the Black Shark II. We had a discussion about different names once, see HERE.

Mistake in LEGO's minifigure timeline?
Dreamweb replied to badbob001's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Wasn't it the Metroliner train set back in the 90s that used the short legs for the first time? I might be wrong but that is what my memory is telling me. -
Yep, still building! I've dismantled most of my old ships and thanks to this I have a lot of bricks to build with, so expect to see more new ships sooner or later.

Mistake in LEGO's minifigure timeline?
Dreamweb replied to badbob001's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The whole timeline seems rushed and has quite a few inconsistencies. The way it is presented it suggests that the Pirate from Collectable Minifigures was one of the early pirates introduced in 1989, which is obviously wrong. Also, and I mght be wrong here not being that much of a Castle expert, but I'm pretty sure the original ghosts didn't have legs - they got them only recently. -
Mistake in LEGO's minifigure timeline?

I have only one of those in my collection (blue body, brown hair). Not the most useful fig for MOCing I must admit. -
Thanks a lot! And thanks for your comments!

Thanks for your comments! The hammocks aren't really that big of a deal but I'm glad you like them. This is my first MOC that uses the new type hull bow/stern pieces (the ones introduced with Brickbeard's Bounty and used ever since). I must say they're nice to work with, although the fact that the bow and the stern are identical makes it look slightly strange. I guess I prefer the old type of sterns, but it's always good to have a choice between various types.

[pid][/pid] 148B Hello everyone! After a long, long time of not uploading anything, it is finally time to show you my latest ship - HMS Eternity, a flagship for my Bluecoat army! It's been a long, long time since I started building this, and it spent over a year in a cabinet almost completed and waiting to be finished before I finally found the time and the motivation to do it. The bluecoats have always been my favourite faction in Pirate LEGO sets, and I actually used my currect sigfig as this vessel's captain, as you will see in more detail later. Front view, you can see the figurehead here, as well as the anchor. The anchor mechanism actually is pretty similar to 10210 Imperial Flagship's - there's a vertical shaft hidden under the main deck, with the capstan on the main deck. I used a rope instead of a chain though. If we count the bridge, the ship has a total of 4 decks. All of which are accessible. In the picture above you can see the ladders that lead to the two decks below the main deck. The main deck. The two ladders on both sides of the entrance to the captain's quarters lead to the bridge. We'll visit the captain's quarters later. The ship's bell is visible here as well. Two large sections of the main deck can be easily removed to access the gun deck. This picture shows one of the sections removed. And this one shows the other one removed. There's a total of 14 cannons. Ready to fire! There's a brown door behind the last pair of cannons. It's hard to take a good picture of it from here. This is the entrance to the galley. We'll visit it later too. This is the lowermost deck. It can be accessed easily by removing parts of the gun deck. They are all placed on plates for easy access, just like the sections of the main deck. The soldiers who are off duty sleep in hammocks here. On this cross-section you can see where the 3 decks are, with the removable parts removed for easy access to the lowermost deck. As you can see, there are two doors next to the sleeping guy. They lead to another room on the lowermost deck... ...and it's a storage area with some barrels and chests. You can also see some grey metal doors there too. We'll get back to them later. Aaaand it's me! Told you so! The captain's quarters can be accessed by removing the plate that covers the bridge. This is the door that leads to the main deck. The whole sterncastle can be easily removed to access the aft part of the lowermost deck. Note the door to the galley I mentioned earlier - now it's clearly visible. But when it's removed like that, one can take a better look inside the sternacastle. Part of the captain's cabin can be also removed to access the galley. With the sterncastle removed, one can now see what is behind the grey metal doors on the lowermost deck... And these are captains Red Beard and Brickbeard, both captured by the mighty Bluecoats! Their hats are removed as a sign that they are no longer in command. Did you know that Red Beard's hair is long? Soldier: Here's your food, Red Beard! Brickbeard: What about mine? And that's it! Thanks for reading! The Brickshelf folder is HERE, with some extra images that aren't shown here! Please let me know what you think about the ship!

This is great! You must have put so much effort into this! Thanks to you we now have an official LEGO Pirates 'canon' and timeline that we can refer to. Thanks for the excellent work.

Or to build the Armada Flagship's "big brother" and put those two together in a sort of small fleet, the larger one filled with Spanish soldiers. One can even use the Caribbean Clipper's sails for that, as they're also white and blue and would nicely match the original Armada Flagship's look. That would be awesome!
-
The Black Pearl (the official set) didn't have the stern section either and it was still a pretty good ship (despite some flaws). Alternatively, one can always buy two of these to make a huge white flagship. It is kind of funny, I remember mentioning here once that the Armada Flagship's hull would make a decent modern ship. Looks like someone at LEGO had a similar idea (the hull's obviously not identical but pretty similar).
-
That's some great tribute to one of the true classics! The similarity is undeniable and all the details are great. Excellent job!
-
It's funny, I remember you starting this thread. Sometimes we just cannot find the strength within us to finish a MOC this size. Or we simply can't find the time. Anyway, this is simply amazing! I'm not a PotC fan (please don't keelhaul me anyone ) so I look at this MOC as a ship on its own, regardless of what inspired it. And I'm very impressed! This must look amazing on a display. You did an excellent job!
-
I didn't want to start a new thread about this since this is not a Friends forum, and this seems like the perfect thread to put this. Have you seen the new Friends ship? It has the new-style pirate ship hull in white! The only white hull we've had so far was the Armada Flagship's, and it was the narrow version, not to mention the blue top part. This one looks great! I'm definitely getting this set, or at the very least the hull.
-
I know exactly how you feel Mr. naf. I got the Caribbean Clipper for Christmas when it first came out. I agree that today's sets don't have the same feel as the old ones we all know and love. But this does not make them worse. It's more a matter of nostalgia. We always tend to treasure those things we remember from childhood. I consider BSB to be among the best LEGO sets that were ever released, regardless of the theme. Perhaps even no. 1. The great thing about the old sets is that they haven't disappeared in any way! If we've kept them since childhood and still have them, good for us! If we don't have them, we can always buy some used ones - most of them aren't that hard to find. Have you seen 10210 Imperial Flagship? It's from 2010 and it's pretty close to BSB quality wise. It does not make you feel as nostalgic as the BSB, but give it 20 years or so and it will.

The stern looks great indeed. Also, it reminds me a bit of SES (the arches) and a bit of QAR (the overall look).

Look what I just got - Report your latest Pirate LEGO acquisitions
Dreamweb replied to V()()D()()'s topic in LEGO Pirates
While this is not technically a Pirate LEGO acquisition, I just got the hull from 4768 - yes, I mean the Harry Potter ship. Just the hull, nothing else. I think it might me a good challenge to try and use it in a Pirate MOC someday, and try to make it look good. I know it's not particularly popular among Pirate fans but I'll try that anyway. BTW welcome back. It's been a looooong time since my last visit. I've been doing a lot of things and didn't have much time for LEGO unfortunately. No dark ages or anything - just being busy with lots and lots of other activities. But I plan to find some time now that I'm back.
