That's just a matter of personal choice... While my IFS is still in one piece, I will eventually take it apart and put those pieces into use somewhere else. For one, the four middle hull pieces will be combined with at least one more (taken from Queen Anne's Revenge for example) for something a little bigger.

Haha, while that would not be such a bad idea to me, I'd still prefer a ship for the Bluecoats, and not necessarily something as special as the 10210 Imperial Flagship. Just a decent looking sailing vessel. So my reaction to such news would be pretty optimistic, but in no way would I be as excited as some people here might...

Shooting and Non-Shooting Cannons...What you Have!?
Dreamweb replied to VintageLegoEra's topic in LEGO Pirates
Which is even more funny considering it has a built-in shooting mechanism for its non-shooting cannon. Then again, it's Cross Bone Clipper we're talking about, the ship full of absurd. -
I don't have any problems with the hull pieces. As for the admiral's head, I just received an e-mail message from LEGO that the correct head I ordered is on its way to me. I'll let you know once I get it if that is indeed the right one.

I have quite a few of those catalogues from the heyday of Pirates. I remember staring at them, literally for DAYS, the scenes were just so great. And not only that, in those dioramas you could also see the details of all those sets you were hoping to get one day. The stamp-sized set miniatures weren't good enough for that, the only real way to get to know better the sets you didn't have/couldn't afford were those amazing two-page battle scenes.

Shooting and Non-Shooting Cannons...What you Have!?
Dreamweb replied to VintageLegoEra's topic in LEGO Pirates
I have two second-hand 6271 Imperial Flagships (one without sails), one of which has the non-shooting cannons, and therefore must have been bought in the US by the previous owner. All my other ships have shooting cannons as that was the standard type in Europe. So I only have 2 non-shooting cannons in my whole collection. And BTW, I'm curious, did Ninja and Western sets in the US also use the same version of the non-shooting cannons, i.e. with the crossed cannon pattern? -
10210 Imperial Flagship did have one-sided sails though. Anyway, is there any confirmation at all to this rumour?

Thanks for your comments mateys! Actually the head is from the 7018 Viking ship, where it also served as a figurehead, although in a slightly different arrangement. You mean the last one on the right? It's a brand new Admiral/Governor torso from 2015 Pirate sets: 70412 Soldiers Fort and 70413 Brick Bounty. The blue hat (first one on the left) is also from the Soldiers Fort. I literally grabbed the torso and the hat right after opening the 70412 box and placed them in my MOC immediately - so when I finally built the fort set, it was missing its governor.

174A I wish to present to you my latest MOC - the sailing vessel Basilisk. My main goal while building it was not to use any brown bricks at all and go for a less common colour scheme. So, apart from some muskets and pistols for the mininfgs, there is no brown and instead the ship uses a mixture of old dark grey, dark tan, dark red and some black. It uses completely grey narrow bow and stern hull pieces and in case you're wondering where they came from, check this thread. Since no middle sections in this colour exist, I had to make a custom one, and it's exaclty as long as two standard middle sections would be. Some more images: The cannons are customs as I really don't like using standard cannons on narrow hulls - they just seem too big. Here's a close-up of the gun deck: As I had a limited amount of bricks in those colours, I had to skip the interior this time. So the inside of the captain's cabin is not accessible. However, there is a hatch in the bow section, with a ladder which leads down to the living quarters, the storage area and whatever your imagination tells you: The brave crew can be seen below. The third guy on the left is the ship's surgeon, but as can be noticed in some images above, he also sometimes likes to take the helm. And finally, just for fun, a comparison photo of my latest ship and the latest official LEGO ship - yes, the Brick Bounty: The Brick Bounty is obviously slightly wider as it uses different hull pieces, but besides that they're actually virtually identical in size. Overall, once again I must say I got to like the narrow hulls much more over the last few months. For one, those smaller ships are much quicker to build. That's it, thanks for watching, comments are welcome as usual!!!

I asked LEGO for the correct head too. Wonder if they will send it to me.

Welcome To Our New Pirates Regulator: Captain Braunsfeld
Dreamweb replied to Capn Frank's topic in LEGO Pirates
Congratulations Sir! Watch out for the sharks! -
Well, we are all entitled to our opinions and mine is but one among many To me, 5/10 is a fair score for this ship. Brickbeard's Bounty is a 6/10 by comparison, and if it had a working anchor, I'd even give it a 7. The minifigs are awesome, I absolutely agree. But they were equally great on the 2009 ship. In a different manner perhaps, but also amazing. I wouldn't call it the best ship since 1993. It is better than Red Beard Runner, that's for sure, but apart from the already mentioned Brickbeard's Bounty, it definitely isn't better than 10210 Imperial Flagship. As for Queen Anne's Revenge, that's a tough call. That ship had so many amazing features and at the same time so many flaws, I find it the hardest of them all to rate. But I shall say that it's at least as good as the Brick Bounty. I don't have the Black Pearl (and regret it) so I will not express any opinions on that one. The smaller ships are a different category altogether so I cannot really compare it to sets like the Armada Flagship. But I'm glad there are those who enjoy the Brick Bounty, if you're having fun with this set, that's all that matters. I enjoy it myself to a degree, as mentioned in the review. There's one more issue I wish to discuss: repetitiveness. The Brickbeard's Bounty was sort of an homage to BSB, no doubt about it. You could tell it by the colour of the sails alone. But no one complained that it had sails similar to BSB's, because that set had been released 20 years earlier (re-releases don't really count). But, only 6 years later they then released an homage to an homage (even in the name), and that's different. That's taking it one step too far. Remember, when LEGO released the Imperial Flagship in 2010, I heard no complaints about the name, even though there had been a ship with exactly the same name before, it was just so long ago it didn't bother anyone. But imagine if in a few months from now they released a new ship for the Bluecoats and called it Imperial Flaghip too, I'm sure there would be some booing regarding the name, no matter what the ship looks like. Because once again, that would be taking it one step too far. On the other hand, if LEGO soon released a new ship for the soldiers and made it an obvious homage to Caribbean Clipper (blue-white sails and so on), heck, even called it Caribbean Clipper, that wouldn't bother me, actually I'd be happy they did this - if the ship were of decent quality of course. This is because the original CC was released 26 years ago, and the last ship with blue/white sails was released 19 years ago (the Armada Flagship), so this would not be taking it too far. It would be what the Brickbeard's Bounty was to the Black Seas Barracuda - a fitting tribute. Anyway, thanks for the feedback everybody and feel free to share any more thoughts you have on this!

Funny how at first the new ship was absolutely winning this poll, and now it's virtually a draw (when I'm writing this, the BB is winning by 1 vote, but yesterday it was losing by 1 vote so yes, almost a draw).
-
I voted above average. There's just so much going on here for a set this size. And it is much better than its 2009 counterpart (sort of) - I mean set 6192. The only thing I don't really like is the pattern on the pirate flag. Then again, with so many flags available, you can make several rivalling pirate factions, each with a different flag. Also, it's funny that they used the 2009 skull and crossbones pattern on the pirate's hat, while the flag uses a different symbol and all the 'real' 2015 pirate sets use yet another different symbol.

[Poll] Which one is the better bluecoat officer?
Dreamweb replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in LEGO Pirates
Funny that you mentioned this, as my methodology is similar, although with the Redcoats and Bluecoats swapped. But it only has to do with the old version of Blue- and Redcoats, the ones from late 1980s and early 1990s. Since their uniforms are virtually identical (save for the colours of course), I consider them one faction, the difference being that the soldiers in red serve on land, and the guys in blue serve on ships. That is why you will never see an old-type Redcoat on a ship displayed by me. Therefore the Redcoat soldiers wear shakos, while it is the Bluecoats who wear tricornes, plus the high-ranking officers of both divisions wear bicornes. An example of this, but only with the Bluecoats present, can be seen in my HMS Eternity. The 2009 Redcoats are a completely different faction (nation, whatever) altogether, and the 2015 Bluecoats are yet another completely different faction which has nothing to do with any of the previous groups. I have no idea how historically accurate such division is, but I ilke it that way and have been doing so for years now. -
Congratulations! I hope the Pirate forum will prosper under your reign!

Just bought the new Soldiers Fort and Treasure Island. Now I'm only missing the Soldiers Outpost, the chess and the Juniors set for my collection to be complete! Although I'm not sure if I will get the chess set, but the other two will be mine eventually -
[Poll] Which one is the better bluecoat officer?
Dreamweb replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in LEGO Pirates
I'd say give us both the hairpiece and the hat so that we can swap them if we wish! But seriously, the way it is now, I prefer the one with the tricorne. -
That is very true. While the Red Beard Runner is not a satisfying pirate ship to me, you can at least see they were trying to make it as different as possible from both BSB and SES. The result wasn't great, but at least they made a noticeable effort.
-
My one more complaint with this set which I forgot to mention earlier is that the two top sails are small, and I mean really, really small. They would work much better if there were two larger sails beneath each of them, instead of just one. Kind of like the main mast of Queen Anne's Revenge. Now, that set wasn't perfect, but at least LEGO got it right with the tallest mast: With the Brick Bounty, the top sails feel slightly out of proportion to me...
-
Having finally assembled this set, I must admit it's pretty good, one of the best small Pirate sets in quite a while. The design is original for a change, unlike in other 2015 sets. And there is plenty of useful parts which can be easily utilised in pirate MOCs. Despite its size, it really stands out among the rest of this wave. If only they put this much creativity into the remaining sets...

Looks like a MOD has added a poll to this topic - that's splendid considering I wanted to add a poll in the first place, but somehow could not. I've noticed that when I use my home computer with Windows 8, many of the posting options are inactive (hyperlink icon and others, including the "add image" icon - I had to add all the images in the first post manually by typing the img tags). I guess I can't add a poll for the same reason, since I started a few polls in the past (on different operating systems) and they worked just fine. You're probably right, I often find describing minifig torso colours much harder than describing "normal" brick colours. Also, they sometimes differ considerably from the "default colour" if you will - just look at some yellow torsos for example.

Actually, 'squeezed' was the term that crossed my mind too while writing this review. It's hard for me to tell too... It's a light brownish-orangish colour... Nougat perhaps? I don't have much experience with this colour, but it might as well be nougat. As for the buttons and the rim around the lapels, they are of a more shiny-gold colour...

Dreamweb replied to V()()D()()'s topic in LEGO Pirates
Recently I got 70409 Shipwreck Defence, that would be my second set of the new Pirates after the Brick Bounty... Hopefully not the last -
I checked the review at Brickset and it looks like the guy who wrote it did indeed get a different face for the admiral. His looks just like the one in the instructions: Clearly different from the one I have: Which makes me wonder if the second face printing on that head is also different. I wonder how it happened that LEGO put a different head into the bag. Cool, looks like I got a unique set.
