  1. According to Peeron, they are also in light green, in 4+ Pirates no less, which is different from medium green used in Belville.
  2. When I was a kid, I thought the grey bird from 6034 was a vulture. Anyway, after giving it much thought, I was the first person in here to vote for solid. Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of the classic red painted parrot, and the new one is nice too, it's just because the yellow bird from the Caribbean Clipper always felt so special to me. There was a time when I considered it one of THE most important bricks in my collection. So, regardless whether it's actually a parrot or not, I give it my vote.
  3. Good, you didn't forget to mention Steve. It's a great set, although I still prefer the BSB myself...
  4. Yeah, the ship from Hook (1991) would be a great way to start, in fact it would be quite a task to build it, here's a sample picture: And a few more can be found here.
  5. I really have to start writing down how long each ship I buy stays in one piece before I reduce it to bricks again. A stay-on-the-shelf index which tells a lot about the ship's quality. Judging by that, I remember that my Brickbeard's Bounty had a much longer life compared to the Brick Bounty, which was taken apart pretty quickly. And BTW my Black Seas Barracuda is still intact which I guess is telling something. So is the 10210 Imperial Flagship, but that one will have to be sacrificed eventually for MOCing purposes, or at least MODded heavily.
  6. Well, wasn't it so that the last time they released sets from the latest movie, but also from previous movies? Just like with Indiana Jones, we had the Crystall Skull sets and sets from older movies too. So theoretically they can release any ship they want. But I doubt they'd re-release Black Pearl or QAR. LEGO rarely does this kind of thing. This isn't Star Wars which has been around for a while without a break, which justifies why we've had several versions of the X-wing and whatever ships they have there.
  7. It's really hard to vote... The old red printed parrot will always remain a true classic, but... on the other hand, I always kind of liked the solid ones. Especially the yellow one from the Caribbean Clipper, or maybe in this case it wasn't a parrot but a hawk, considering the ship's European name? Anyway, the yellow one was always special to me, considering how rare it was, and I had the pleasure to own one with my Clipper and was very happy about it (I would have to check that, but I think I have two yellow ones right now). And I had a dark grey one too, the one that came with 6034 Black Monarch's Ghost, and somehow, sometime I lost it, which really sucked. The marbled one looks good too, it adds another species to your bird collection so I'm not complaining.
  8. Hahaha, this is great. I remember Larry of course. Played some of the installments back in the day. Good work, makes you recognise everything instantaneously.
  9. Well, I never said I had any buyer's remorse either! It is still a pretty solid set, the minifigs are excellent, and it's always good to have some more hull pieces and masts (I'm still not a fan of those sails though). I've taken mine apart and probably will use the hull to build something similar in size.
  10. I think you made the right choice. The Brickbeard's Bounty is better of the two, the only thing it's really missing is an anchor. And like you mentioned yourself, if you decide to get the Brick Bounty in a few months it will be much easier to buy it for a reasonable price compared to the older ship.
  11. I guess we'd better start a new topic, something like: Pirates 2021 - rumours and discussion. My predictions are: - treasure island - soldiers' outpost with a pirate raft and probably an octopus - soldiers' fort, well, more like a pier and a small building with almost no walls, oh yeah, and a palm tree - Brickbeard's Bounty v. 3.0 - small set with a soldier, cannon and pirate On the other hand, in 2009 we had redcoats, in 2015 the bluecoats returned, so I guess in 2021 it's gonna be the Spanish Armada this time? Now, this I would really like to happen.
  12. Me too! For now... What the future brings we shall see. Thanks matey!
  13. The Zeppelin! I am going to get it too. Couldn't care less about the dragon set. Too bad the Zeppelin does not have a monkey though.
  14. Thanks for your comments everyone! Keep them coming! I don't mind, but the same solution was used originally in the Caribbean Clipper, so it's as old as the pirate sets themselves! I tried to add other colours and did some experimenting. None of them looked particularly appealing in combination with the red (and brown). So I decided to stick to just one colour and play with the different shapes and sculptures instead to achieve some diversity, The sailors use the ratlines to get to the crow's nest. As for your ship, I had not seen it prior to building mine. I checked it out only recently and I don't see any similarity between the two (well, they're both ships, obviously ). The Spaniards got the blue one some time ago, as for the bluecoats they have the HMS Eternity. But I'll be making new ships for each faction when the time allows!
  15. You know what? I can actually live with that. I'm not happy with that, but I can accept that. At least that way my wallet will suffer less than if there was a new wave of Pirates every year or something like that. Also, the last time around, PotC kind of partially filled the gap between 2009 and 2015 Pirates. This will possibly happen again. Just please LEGO, when the classic yellow-skinned pirates make another comeback in the future, try to make the sets just a bit more original. Put some extra effort, that's all I'm asking for. I would hate to see another copy of Brickbeard's Bounty / Brick Bounty / whatever.
  16. Exactly. I don't know what it looked like in your countries, but when I was a kid, and there was a new movie playing at the cinema, you could watch it immediately, or after a few months - most movies were usually still on after such a long time. Nowadays it's like 3 weeks and the movie is gone. Similar thing was with each year's LEGO wave - you could buy the sets a year or two later, they were still on the shelves at normal prices.
  17. EDIT: Now showing pictures of the revamped version of the ship from 2022. Scroll down to see an old photo for comparison. While for some time I had been working on another vessel, I decided to take a break from that task and build this instead. It was a much shorter build than the other one I'm working on, but I'm quite satisfied with the outcome. Without further introduction, there she be: The Devil Lady. I built her for the new type of redcoat soldiers that were introduced with the 2009 Pirate wave. But I used the old type of hull, with 5 middle sections but no stern section - just to see how that would turn out. She has no custom parts apart from just one - the topmost sail on the main mast is an old Black Seas Barracuda sail which was a bit torn at the edges by its previous owner, so I trimmed it a bit to make a smaller sail which nicely fits the original BSB sails. Everything else, including the anchor rope, is 100% official LEGO pieces. If I remember correctly, this is my first ever custom ship with no stern section. I just wanted to try something different, and the result can be seen above. The ship uses a combination of old brown for the hull and the ratlines, and new brown for the masts and other brown parts. I was afraid the two colours would clash, but IMO they don't. Certainly they mix better than old grey and new bley, which don't look good together at all, but I digress. The figurehead, which obviously gives the ship its devilish name. The ship has some additional statues at the stern as well. There will be more close-ups of those in other pictures. The gun deck and the main deck. Notice the reddish brown crates and masts vs the old brown floor. Here you can also see the anchor mechanism which is pretty standard, and the hatch which the soldiers use to get downstairs to the lower deck. Notice the ship's bell and the door to the captain's cabin. With eight cannons, these guys will have no problems fighting ships like the BSB, or the Brick Bounty. Also, notice the statues I mentioned before. They are placed symmetrically on both sides of the sterncastle, Another view of the stern. The captain's cabin isn't that big, but there's enough room for a bed and a desk. And here's one picture of the old version of the ship: Aaaand... that's it. The lenghty tour of the new vessel ends here. I hope you enjoyed it and thanks to everyone who actually took the time to read all of this. Comments are of course welcome, so please let me know what your thoughts are!
  18. Actually, the name Steve comes from our very own forum and was made up by DoubleT over 10 years ago. See here. I remember, I was there. Since then it became so popular it's like a semi-official name of the character and is used almost everywhere. Unless of course I'm totally mistaken and some people called him that way even earlier in the past, which I am not aware of.
  19. Apart from that one, the Orient Expedition also had the Emperor's Ship, another very useful set for Pirate fans and a perfect base to build a smaller ship for your fleet. In fact, when it was still in the shops, this was the first new LEGO set that I had bought in a long while. Some time later I also got the jungle river to get that grey boat.
  20. What's funny is I could probably rebuild the Imperial Trading Post with over 90% accuracy from the bricks that I have, including the 3D baseplate from my Eldorado Fortress. Some of the things I don't have would include the sail from that small ship, and Steve, and probably some other minor parts. As for the Rock Island Refuge, that would be much harder, I don't even have the baseplate (although it's pretty similar to the one from the Eldorado Fortress, just with different colours).
  21. I remember that first commercial, it was shown in Poland back in the day, I even recorded it on my VCR once. As for the second movie, the story, I've never seen it before. It was fun to watch. Notice that the Black Seas Barracuda / Dark Shark (it was also called Dark Shark where I live) has the ship's bell in that movie.
  22. That is one of the best pirate sets ever, period. As for the review, the idea itself is very nice, but maybe you should consider adding some spoken commentary next time? That would make the review much more appealing to the general audience.
  23. Agreed... The bluecoats deserved that ship! It's a smart idea to obtain the Imperial Flagship. The set itself is now ridiculously overpriced if you want to buy it second-hand. So is the Black Pearl, at least where I live, and now I seriously regret not getting one when it was out. At least I have the Imperial Flagship, which is definitely better of the two (but still not perfect IMO).
  24. ...aaand now, almost a year later, the older ship is winning. I'm not surprised really, now that the feeling of novelty surrounding the new ship has faded.
