  1. I would bet all my uruks that either the piece count/price is wrong or there is more to this set than we know about right now. There doesn't seem to be anything in there that would call for an extra $10; there's no way that little boat justifies that. Smaug doesn't make a lot of sense given the minifigures or the name though so I'm betting they got the price wrong.
  2. OK, I'll cool my jets. I'm looking forward to these surprises.
  3. There's a lot to love here. Two new headwear pieces, at least one beautiful new shield and is that almost all DARK brown or is the lighting just playing tricks on me? Plus, Thorin has a new torso print meaning those that were concerned they'd recycle the torsos can breathe easier. This set does add to my ever increasing fear that Jackson is taking more and greater diversions from the book than he has before though.
  4. I've looked at it quite a few times but I don't believe his challenge entry is the same as the lore. If you read that one, I think you'll understand why I'm asking. Also, I'm not sure whether the Valyrians or the Avalonians are the greater threat to Historica. While the Valyrians are wasting their time in Nocturnus, the Avalonians are grabbing the crown. ;)
  5. I know we aren't beginning the next chapter for a while but I'm curious; are the other guilds going to be choosIng a side or is it just going to be Avalonians doing the splitting?
  6. In the name of all that is good please don't say that again. ;( I too am very much looking forward to Dol Goldur's inclusion in the films and badly want a set. The Goblin King in the film and his LEGO set were both abysmal to me. I don't know if I could take it if it were the goblin king equivalent in the movie or LEGO. O_o
  7. I agree that we'll get Thranduil but to my understanding, Yazneg was the primary antagonist at the time the sets were designed and that's why all the toy companies made Yazneg instead of Azog. Anyway, I wouldn't be worried about him deskp. It's characters like Beorn and Radagast that I'm a tad uncertain about.
  8. Weird. I know he's mentioned in the events leading up to the hobbit but this is just weird. A Thrain fig is really obscure but could be nice. I guess I have some Googling to do. :P
  9. Wait. What? Is that a thing?
  10. Thank you everyone! Thanks ISC! I'm glad you like them but they aren't cheese pieces. That would have taken WAY more cheese slopes than I will likely ever have and a lot more patience too.
  11. At least both Mitgardia and Kaliphlin can hope to gain a little on Avalonia still. Stinkin fairies. ;)
  12. There aren't really any rules for building a new city in Mitgardia. Just take a look at the map and pick a place. As long as you don't build right on top of the capital, you'll probably be ok. ;) The UNofficial sigil is a bear. Kaliphlin and Avalonia have the lion and dragon respectively. We have no official sigil. It would sure be nice to have something a little more practical but LEGO doesn't seem concerned with our need for a variety of sigils. :p You are free to use the falcon shield or any other shield for that matter really. I know that there are some active black falcons in Nocturnus if that makes a difference to you but they and their sigil are both fair game.
  13. You could probably find someone that would like to get the figs to split the cost with you. I even know a someone who could help you out with that third nazgul. It's a great set but I just don't have any room for it.
  14. Welcome to Mitgardia RBC! Good to have you.
  15. As the others have said, 2.07 is the base rate. You can send quite a few figures without that rate changing. As long as you keep your small padded envelope from getting thicker, the rate won't go up significantly. I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll be selling.
  16. Thank you! If I ever find light bley slopes on a PAB wall... I'm glad you like it! I haven't seen it anywhere else but it's simple enough it wouldn't surprise me at all. It uses a lot of this piece (I bought over 90% of the light bley ones on Bricklink ) Two squares of four triangles each will fit snugly into a space two bricks high and five studs wide like this. Where possible, I attach the bottom triangles (in this build, the two on either side of the doors and the ones on the border) to studs to keep everything from shifting on me and put a 1x1 tile in between them. Maybe I'll make a short how-to topic since someone is interested. Thank you! I'd like to try a more ornamental road using those pieces at some point if I can get more of the different colors. For this MOC, I wanted it to lead the eye to the door more than be a focal point itself. I almost didn't even put that dark blue diamond in. The fell doesn't have an open backside. I used all of my extra green, tan, yellow, red, etc to build the back to keep it sturdy. It's rather heavy. I do plan on building the hall that the doors lead into though and I did make a floor for dwarves to walk behind the murder holes. (Did anyone notice those half hidden in there? ) I'm glad it catches your fancy and though I'm not generally a metal guy I'll have to check out this band. Thank you Ska. I was terrified as I approached the top when it started being almost impossible to find a slope brick anymore. SO much of that mountain is built with bags of light bley from that table. That was incredibly considerate of you to avoid using the flower technique for me but I wouldn't have minded in the least as it wasn't mine to begin with. I look forward to seeing it incorporated into something of yours later. I'm really happy you liked the garden so much! Thanks! Thank you! Thanks you Spidey. The waterfall had me stumped for a long time. Now that I have the pieces, I'm going to have to incorporate them into more builds to practice. The lily pads are one of my favorite little touches too.
  17. Thank you both! I still have to imagine its just a slice off the front of the mountain. The scale that I imagine is simply not possible without having a dedicated room... with vaulted ceilings. Thank you very much Kabel. I'm really looking forward to seeing more from you; especially dwarven stuff! Thanks for such detailed C&C SK! The rough rockwork was by necessity more than choice; I used pretty well all of my light bley. Who knows when I would have had enough slopes to work on something of this scale and I wasn't willing to scrap the idea over it. I'm really glad you think it works well enough though; I was really conscious of how much less clean it looked than most of the rockwork I see posted here. The waterfall totally disappeared/ looks awful in the pictures. I made the entry splash out of stacks of 1x1 round plates but then I added the bridge so you can't see it anyway. It would definitely have worked much better to build the fall as I built the mountain rather then as an afterthought but I'm still glad I added it. The trees! Some of them (I'm looking at you cherry tree!) almost made me cry in frustration. I love the lever base technique. I first saw it on here; either in Goh or the general Historic Themes forum. I do a little landscaping in real life and I can't bear for a flower bed to have one shape for all its flowers. I really need to get some of those nice new ones that robuko used so beautifully in that Inside Kaliphlin build. Thanks Kai! I had a lot of fun adding the dwarves to the scene. Wish I had a pig for the truffle hunting though. Maybe I'll get hold of one before I retake the pictures. It is indeed a door! It slides back into the mountain like so. Thank you! The doors were the beginning of the whole project and still probably the part I am most proud of. Thanks Masa! Thank you Sir Infernum!
  18. I finally finished working on this. I want to get better photos badly so hopefully I can get a friend to lend me a camera and teach me a few things. Until then, you'll just have to deal with it. One more for Mitgardia!
  19. This is by far my largest build yet. I have been working on it for a couple of months now and I'm really happy with how it turned out even though there are quite a few things i would do differently were I starting over. Sadly, my pictures stink. I really want to get pics I can be proud of before I deconstruct this thing so hopefully I'll get to update the pictures eventually. There are quite a few more pics of some of the details on my Flickr. As always C&C welcome! Khor found the queen of the snow elves surprisingly eager to throw her people's lot in with the dwarves'. In Mitgardia they had made a home they did not wish to leave behind but still in their art and songs it was clear the loss of their forsaken kingdom was keenly felt even by those whose time began long after its passing. He was invited to stay as the queen's guest for a few days while she sent word to friends in the west that might also be willing to take part. Of the five kingdoms approached, two sent a detachment back to offer their support and help plan the group's next step. Khor immediately instructed a messenger to make haste to Bâra-Kìr with instructions to prepare to welcome the elves in two days. This news was not well received but the king knew they would soon need allies and was determined not to let his people's stubborn predisposition jeopardize their best chance to stop the Drow threat. The following day was a flurry of activity as the dwarves prepared to welcome the unlikely guests into their ancient halls.
  20. My big build didn't meet the deadline either but I don't think that's anything you need to apologize for. I would much rather see a build that you're happy with and had time to finish than something rushed out for points. I have placed quite a few bricklink orders since I started mine but I still find myself running into things I 'need' for it. I should finally have it up this week and I'm pretty excited about it. I've been working on it since I first joined GoH and it has grown to be a much larger project than I originally planned.
  21. Thank you guys! I'm glad everyone seemed to like the figs. I had fun putting them together. When Damaxius posted his MOC of him smuggling Drow in for the party, I knew I had to make this. I wasn't at all happy with the house (I had unwisely split my pieces between three builds and that is more than my collection can support) but I really enjoyed the build anyway, especially the tunnel. I should have the next (uneventful) part of the story up next week if not tomorrow.
  22. Thank you guys for all the kind and constructive comments. I'm sorry I haven't been more active in responding to them. Thanks Ska! I know that it may not generally be ideal to have the landscape and wall the same color but for whatever reason, I decided I wanted to try blending the two together for this one. Thanks SK, I have probably learned more from your snowscapes than anywhere else. The door suggestin is a good one. I was never happy with that part of the MOC but I couldn't figure out what would change that. The crenelations were only spaced the way they were because I didn't have enough to place them closer. I do now and it does look better. The arches are surprisingly not very expensive on Bricklink if those are what primarily interestes you in the set. Of course, I would love to take fleshies off your hands. If only I was going to Germany this summer like I wanted to! Pieces. I totally agree with you, the wall needs more height. I just barely squeeked it out that high though as I had already used up most of my white and sand green for support bricks in another WIP project. I was kicking myself for it the whole time I was building this.
  23. I'm late but I finally took the time to comment on all the great 'Inside Kaliphlin' MOCs you guys have been turning out. I've really been enjoying them and kudos for putting together such a cohesive and fun community project. I love Mitgardia and the members in it but the amount of life inside your guild is enviable.
  24. I also love the cut-away walls. I'll have to try to work that into something as it really does up the presentation value a lot. I love all the details hidden throughout; the diver's helmet and the chihuahua to name a couple. And did you cut that Lego string with grips. *gasp* Haha, just kidding. I'm a LEGO butcher myself. The string of banners that you fashioned with them really made the MOC.
