I recently aquired a third party 9V motor and I've decided to try and implement it into Lego for making RC vehicles. I have started this topic to document my progress so that even if it doesn't work out then I hope some of you can learn from my mistakes. The motor is currently running at about 7.75V and spins at either 18 or 20,000rpm (I can't remember which ) and also works with the powerfuncions Infrared system. Here is a video: There are some things I would like to know though: Have any of you ever tried anything like this before? If so, how did it go? Do you have any hints or advice? Do you know of any problems that might come up and/or how I can overcome them? I'll try to post regular progress and I hope you'll all find this as interesting as me and maybe learn something from it. Feel free to discuss anything realated too! [edit]: no bricks have or will be modified/cut. I want to be as purist as possible!

I had never seen a tracked vehicle drift until now! It's wild and ugly. Great work! -
It should be fine! I always wondered, why does the light turn on? @Johnny P

Sounds like a cool idea but some younger members don't have bank accounts and stuff so I think I'll stick to free contests and enjoy the awesome mocs people produce when money's on the line xD -

Awesome MOC!!! Great performance and cool features. I haven't seen any crawlers in a while but I really like this one! P.s: your front left tire was on backwards during the video. ;)- 17 replies

[HELP] Fast RC Car
MrNumbskull13 replied to Dans lego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It was quite fast & I could take some pictures of what's left of it, I'll post some links in a few mins. [edit] here is a view of the xl motor, the universal joint ran to a live axle http://m.flickr.com/#/photos/92293857@N05/11728930214/ And here is a view of the m motor, the steering was geared 8-24t. http://m.flickr.com/#/photos/92293857@N05/11728536965/ I used the 56 x 26 tires, use them or a little bigger and try to keep your car under 500g and you should be able to gear the xl motor 24-8t.
