  1. Where have people seen the faces? I can't seem to find an image of them.
  2. Nice, my worries about Onua's characterization have been put to rest! I love the bios (Gali and Onua are my favorites from what we see).
  3. Man, I really like Onua. Still worried about his characterization, but who knows what it will look like. Is it just me, or is his chest definitely printed, not stickered?
  4. I absolutely love the hot air balloon set! Not only the balloon itself, but also the landscaping. I haven't had much money for Lego in recent years, so I haven't picked up any Friends sets, but this may be my first (depending on price).
  5. Right--I drive a blue sedan, and I was hoping that I'd finally be able to recreate it with that roof piece. Ah, well.
  6. There's a new video on the Facebook page. It doesn't show much, but we get a clearer look at some designs/writing on a pedestal of some sort.
  7. I hope that, if they do have Jaller as a character, they'd at least change the spelling of his name.
  8. I'm actually pretty disappointed that the blue car roof in the tow truck preliminaries got changed to white.
  9. Not me. The Fikou was a spider, and it looks like we won't be getting any shortage of spiders.
  10. I agree--however, it is important to note that the first year we got regular-release Matoran sets for all 6 elements was 2004. 2001 had no regular release Matoran (only promotional through McDonalds and the Power Pack), and 2002 only had Nuparu in the Boxor. 2003 was the first year we got regular-release, stand-alone Matoran sets, and even then it wasn't for all the elements. I don't think this is the best way to go about things--I was always a bit upset as a kid that I couldn't get more Matoran, or even get all 6 McToran (I think I got 4). However, even if the Protectors aren't the villagers (and, as you point out, they very well could be), that doesn't necessarily mean that the story won't have any villager characters.
  11. Agreed on all points (although I think the American names made it easier to connect with then as characters than the UK names--Torch, Ski, and Jet have more character than Fire Slizer, Ice Slizer, and Judge Slizer). I was ten when the Throwbots came out, and I loved them (Amazon was my favorite), but I remember being impressed with how much better Bionicle was.
  12. Yes, it's much more like the ship that was made five years ago than the ships that were made fifteen, twenty-one, and twenty-five years ago. The construction and color scheme still seem quite distinct to me. I'll admit that the sails are similar, and so is the size. However, I think that they've done an admirable job making it distinct given the size--and I do think that's probably the best size. Anything bigger like the SES would be much more expensive, and anything smaller that's not drastically smaller would be too small. Every wave needs a "big" pirate set that's still not too expensive for parents, and, size-wise, they're sticking with what works. Still, it looks distinctive to me (and if I didn't have a one-year-old, I'd buy it and display it next to my prized BSB). But, to each their own. Forgot to mention--as the father of a daughter, I am glad to see the shift away from "damsel in distress," and may get the soldier's fort to get that minifigure. And there is something where I'll agree completely: "The Brick Bounty" is a terrible name. What about a name like "The Flying Dane"?
  13. I realize that I've been contrary without giving my actual opinions on the sets. So, here goes. I think that Shipwreck Defense is a huge improvement over the equivalent 2009 set--that shipwreck shelter is great. Soldier's Outpost is great--I think both components are extremely well made, and the outpost reminds me of many older small pirate sets. Soldier's Fort does feel a bit insubstantial, but looking back, I think I like the structure better than the previous one in 2009. I probably won't get the Brick Bounty (can't afford to make many big Lego purchases at the moment), but I like it; it's different enough from the previous one, and I actually like it better.
  14. In addition to not thinking that this new ship is the same as Brickbeard's Bounty (I mean, yes, it has some similarities, but I see a lot of differences; and it is a standard sized pirate ship, so it shares similarities with many others), I don't understand the argument that the soldier sets are <insert that tiresome argument>. Doesn't said argument usually involve large, specialized pieces? It seems like this line moves away from those.
  15. I've seen people saying that this new ship is the same as Brickbeard's Bounty, but I really don't see it. Sure, they have similar color schemes, but a side-by-side comparison shows plenty of differences. Anyway, I love these minifigs--they fit in with the 2009 pirates while managing to be an incredible throwback to the earlier minifigs. I'm very impressed.
  16. I think the reference was to the set called Piraka, who was actually Nektann.
  17. They have a retired Lego mold at Legoland California, and it really is pretty small--definitely small enough to steal. As far as the Bionicle look, count me in as one of those who thinks that they've done a good job, but that they'll also probably do an even better job developing a look if we get future years.
  18. I like the idea of little nods (even though I think the Mask of Creation, despite its possible differences, really is such a nod). I do hope we see more as the years go by, or even this year--at this point, with so little story information (and even less verified info), it's hard to know what kind of nods there will be. Out of curiosity (as always, I'm not trying to be hostile; in this case I'm genuinely curious), do you happen to have the quote where Greg hints that this is a different Mask of Creation (which, again, would still count as a nod or reference in my book)?
  19. But it's still a reference. Arguing that it isn't would be like arguing that, because these Masters could have different personalities or powers, their names and masks aren't references to the 2001 story. They may not be exactly the same (or they may--who knows), but they are at least named after and inspired by the Toa Mata. Same with the Mask of Creation--it doesn't have to be the exact same to be a reference or a nod. I haven't seen what Greg's been hunting, but I doubt that we know too many specifics about this mask yet (particularly since Greg is a master of the non-answer). Honestly, I'm fine if you don't like Bionicle 2015, and even if you decide against it before finding out what the story is (after all, if you go into something convinced that you're not going to like it, chances are you'll be right), but it does, in fact, have references from post-2001 Bionicle, and even post-Mata Nui Bionicle.
  20. Like, say, the Mask of Creation, for example?
  21. If it's true, I trust that Lego can pull it off well. I mean, look at Star Trek: The Next Generation. It had to deal with most of the lore from the Original Series, and it managed to not be restricted, but to even exceed the original in story quality (in my opinion). I realize this is an inexact comparison, since most characters were not the same, but there was in fact some overlap--Kirk, Spock, as McCoy all appeared in TNG, and it was done in a way that would make sense for those who hadn't seen TOS, but it was a treat for those who had. I feel like, if done well, Bionicle 2015 could be similar.
  22. One of the things I like about the new masks is that they're reimagined versions that actually (in my opinion) fit with the aesthetic of Bionicle post-2001. When you look at Vakama's great Huna, or Jaller's Arthron, or the Ignika, or other later masks, they all had a somewhat similar aesthetic--and the original Kanohi were much more smooth and simple by comparison. Now, I got into Bionicle in 2001, so I love those original Kanohi, but I do like the way that these feel--it's very much in the spirit of the Bionicle aesthetic that developed (not sure if I'm making sense).
  23. I had the same thought regarding the chest printing--I think the splashes of yellow are a part of that, although the design itself seems reminiscent of Scuba/Sub's faceprint. Scuba was one of my favorite Throwbots aesthetically (along with Amazon), so this (along with the new Kaukau, which I really like) might make Gali my favorite new Toa.
  24. I really like the looks of these; a few things I would change here and there (Kopaka's silver torso, for example), but the effect is great. The Kaukau looks less monsterish and nicely aquatic. Gali's color scheme actually reminds me of the Scuba ThrowBot, which is nice. She may be one of the first I get. I also like Pohatu's look quite a bit (that Kakama!), and am excited to see Onua.
  25. Looks like I'm in the minority, but I like the Thornax launcher best--although this may be because I missed 2005-2008. Still, I like that it was small, unobtrusive, easy to leave out without ruining the aesthetics, and effective.
