  1. Oh, it's an awesome modular, to be sure--I just always hesitate when I make any sizable purchase (until just last year, I had very low-paying jobs, and couldn't really afford much Lego). Knowing that I could cancel if I wanted to helps me be less hesitant. Here's hoping it will ship soon!
  2. 10229 Winter Village Cottage has a great construction that approximates this relatively well--it is a bit more square than the one in your pictures, though. It works well for me, but if you want to get more accurate at that scale, it would be a good starting point, at least.
  3. I just ordered my Pet Shop--it's the first modular I've bought (I was given the Detective's Office as a gift). We'll see how the order progresses. The nice thing about the extended time is that I have more time to cancel the order if I change my mind.
  4. There's a cool new picture on the facebook page.
  5. Eh. Big whoop. Seriously, though, these are fantastic. Both Guybrush and Largo are amazingly spot on, and the way you've done Guybrush's mouth is perfect. I was Guybrush for Halloween last year, and your MOC puts my costume to shame! Just brilliant.
  6. I have to say, I see a possible Friends-style animal rescue theme as much more likely than a zoo. This is largely because the habitats in modern zoos are a lot like the animals' natural habitats--and, given a choice between a scene with vets/explorers and a scene with spectators, I think Lego would choose the more action-packed one. I'd love a theme like this, though, as it would be easy to convert to a zoo.
  7. Great moc--really captures the look! Just watch out for those broken-femur patients. If word gets out that you said 10....
  8. I don't think that's as likely--it would be hard to make something visually striking as a standalone building that way (at least with the current size constraints). Plus, they're not really all that common--at least not in the cities I've lived in.
  9. I also like the classic faces--not only is it a throwback, but it also lets you interpret the characters how you want to (including their sex--although there are curves on some female minifigures, you can interpret some non-curvy minifigs as women, too). Plus, it takes away a problem in recent years: repetition. There are only so many "normal"-looking faces in circulation; in time, I'm sure that a modular would have to reuse faces (esp. female faces). When every face is simple and the same, it's a stylistic choice to suggest facial features. When you get into more detail, a repeated face can be weird.
  10. Very cool! I'm in the process of designing a Chinese restaurant to go next to my Detective's Office, and this certainly inspires me--great to see these techniques!
  11. The post office in my (real-life) city is old, cool, very detailed--and two stories. I could see a two-story modular post office working if it looks like mine (search for "downtown Colorado Springs post office).
  12. I've had my eye on that supermarket set, and I may try to pick it up. It may seem to be priced poorly, but the number of rare or unique printed parts (which are extremely useful) makes up for it! Regarding the branding, I think it's smart--people who still want something "girly," but also like minifigures more than minidolls, can find something.
  13. Agreed--although, sadly, the Bionicle fandom seems to be known for its unwillingness to let the smallest typo or fake leak go. After all, people are still saying "Omega Tahu" now, years after it outstayed its welcome.
  14. Chris Pratt for Lewa is perfect. I'd cast Vin Diesel as Skull Grinder (with his Iron Giant performance). Maybe Kate Mulgrew for Gali?
  15. I hope it's not an Asian-inspired building yet, but that's for entirely selfish reasons (I'm working on a 16x32 Chinese restaurant, and I'm sure an official Asian buildig would blow mine out of the water).
  16. Beautiful! Far from being boring, I think the exterior exemplifies the modernist idea that simple, clean forms can be striking, and don't need unnecessary detail. Excellent use of landscape, too--the house's integration with its surroundings make it that much better.
  17. This would make sense--the island itself is laid out in a logical way (when you consider weather and the effects of mountains. Seriously, I live by mountains, and they do some weird stuff), and it's only the sharp definitions that are a bit odd--and those could have been helped along by the islanders.
  18. There were people saying this about kids back when G1 came out. In fact, people have been saying things about "kids these days" for ages.
  19. Things sure have changed--but I think she keeps the spirit of the original quite well!
  20. That's another reason I chose San Godofredo--it's still Lego-related, but it lacks the word "brick" or other such puns.
  21. My old town was called Brickenridge, after the Colorado town of Breckenridge. The new modular city I'm building is called San Godofredo--it's meant to evoke San Francisco or many of the towns in the American Southwest. "Godofredo" is the Spanish form of "Godtfred," after Godtfred Kirk Christiansen.
  22. I really like the roof--it looks nice, and it fits the style of the building well. However, it does show me that I prefer some height difference (to each their own, of course--but it does help me as I'm deciding how to build my city, so I'm grateful for that!).
  23. The Tahu that can be named is not the true Tahu....
  24. In addition, Bionicle has a long history of characters who have been asleep for a long period of time, sometimes even worse than Ekimu (the disassembled Toa Mata come to mind). I know that G2 and G1 are different, but with that tradition in mind (and the fact that the Ekimu set doesn't show him decayed), I think it's reasonable to assume that at least some G2 characters are capable of extended sleep without dying/decaying.
  25. I don't know if 26 is late 20s, but I fit the bill here--G1 fan (and G2) who's also parent of a toddler. I probably wouldn't want her seeing "scary" stuff yet, but she also doesn't watch any tv yet. I am interested to see commercials, though. Kind of wish we got mini-discs like in the 2001 Toa; I always found that cool.
