If this is the case, then maybe the skull spiders would have this same feature? That would be pretty cool.

I think that the new mask attachment could actually be really, really good--I'm excited for it.

I love the appearance of shoulder muscles that the new back armor gives!

The silver is an odd choice, but I kind of like it (better than I like the trans-yellow).

I didn't mean multiple poses--I meant different poses from what we have now in the preliminary shots. And as I said, I'm not expecting anything like that (I'm only expecting confirmation of the return and a picture of Tahu)--it would just be nice. Personally, I don't think that I expect confirmation of reboot vs continuation--or any story information. Again, that's something it would be nice to have, but I don't expect it.

(For the record, I was a Bionicle fan in 2001, and that year is still one of my favorites, but I also like Hero Factory. Sorry--didn't mean to get off topic.) Thinking of Friday's reveal, I hope we get more than a picture of Tahu. Maybe a group shot in different poses, or a little bit of story info. Tahu is perhaps the most appealing, but he's also the one we've seen the clearest. I'm expecting just a picture of Tahu and an official announcement, of course, but something else would be nice. Also, the more I look at Lewa and the Jungle Protector, the more I like that color scheme--it feels very plant-like to me.

I remember being surprised by that one--particularly since, if I remember correctly, Furno stopped him because he might wake some up before killing them all, not because there was any moral issue.

Yeah, that Brickset thread is pretty ridiculous. I understand if Bionicle/constraction doesn't appeal to some(after all, the ball joint system used by CCBS and older Bionicle is a system, but it's different from the brick-based system of classic Lego, and some fans just want Lego to essentially repeat the 1980s)--I just find the bashing frustrating, especially since I'm also a big fan of system themes. Live and let live!

Aanchir, I agree--I think my memories of bad treespeak were clouding my memories of how it can be used well, and I reacted too strongly. How could I forget "Uptree battle, downtree peace"? When used well, as I mentioned, it can be great. I guess I hope that, if they do keep it, that they use it consistently and well--maybe bring in an actual linguist (or amateur linguist) to advise.

True--if they could consistently do it well, that would be ok. I'd agree with your requirements, Grima, and add that it should express something succinctly that would otherwise take more time to explain (when you're flying through chutes or on a bird, it's beneficial to express thoughts quickly)

While we're on the topic of bad treespeak--I hope they get rid of treespeak. I've studied linguistics, and while the idea of treespeak makes sense (either as an isolated tribe or a chute-making group making their own jargon), you'd expect it to be shorter, not longer. When done well, it sound like jargon, but when done poorly (eg "Toa-heroes") it just makes things unnecessarily long. It's like Yoda in the prequels--he had an unusual speech pattern in the originals, but only when it made sense--he didn't switch every sentence around. Poor treespeak takes a jargon and applies it to places where it isn't needed and doesn't make sense.

Yeah, I liked their friendship, and I think they got Pohatu right. But yeah, that burly miner thing. Not what I had been hoping for at all. I hope Lego can make a big, burly-looking character without making him really dumb. On another nye, it will be interesting to see how they handle the jungle thing. Hopefully it's just a tribe or a region, and Lewa retains his air powers--otherwise, we'll have lost one unique element while keeping two sets of similar ones (water/ice, earth/stone). But it does seem like they gravitated towards more green-specific powers (acid, plant life) for most green non-Toa characters.

I like the idea, but I still think it's more suited to Pohatu--he always seemed to be the big, strong (even without a Pakari), friendly, but not always too bright character. Onua was one of my favorites, and he wasn't that way at all. Before it was established that the Toa were all the same age, he was said to be the oldest, and to have deep wisdom. Which makes sense for an earth character. I guess I'd be ok if their characteristics switched--I would just rather avoid having two characters who were too similar. The last chronicler, I agree about Kopaka's mask. From the wobbler, it looked to me like he was looking to his right, and his mask was chiseled, similar to the art in his first comic appearance. The closer images show that this isn't the case.

I've become ok with Onua's bulkiness--I was strongly opposed to it before, because it generally doesn't make sense for an underground dweller to be huge, but it's more common in fantasy (and I'm sure there are some real-life examples). Plus, he's the one digging the tunnels! I do hope that they keep his (or her) personality closer to what it was originally. (TVTropes terminology ahead) He was kind of the Big Guy (although Pohatu also fit that role, perhaps even better, leaving Onua as the Smart Guy), but if he was that, he was more of the gentle giant with a bit of genius bruiser thrown in for good measure. In Mask of Light, he seemed to be more of a boisterous bruiser, which I didn't like as much--especially since he was supposed to be wise and reserved. tl;dr--I hope they don't turn Onua into Dunkan Bulk, story-wise.

2015 CREATOR Houses Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Still Raindrop replied to Rick's topic in LEGO Town
Ooh, that beach hut looks promising--and easy enough to convert for my planned mountain town. I wonder if there will be any interior details. -
These certainly are interesting. I still can't say I like Onua's bulkiness at all, but hey. Better for my wallet! The Kanohi are fascinating--those on the smaller three sets seem to take the greatest liberties, but I like what I can see of them--the Miru still has something of a smile, which is a nice homage in an otherwise unrecognizable mask. Can't see too much detail in the Kaukau, but I don't like it as much. I do like the Kakama quite a bit--it's reminiscent of the original while still looking different enough (and better, in my opinion). I wonder if they'll be using mask names this time, come to think of it. I hope so.

Obviously these are ridiculously preliminary, but I think that the shipwreck defense and soldiers outpost actually look really good.

As far as games go, I'd love to see something similar to the MNOLG as far as the thought goes, and I'd like to see it either online for free or for smartphone (or both). That seems to be the way to go if you're looking to make an awareness-raising game. I'd play it on these platforms, but I don't own any consoles, and wouldn't buy them just to play a Bionicle game.

I'm definitely pro-Koro--I was a fan from the beginning, and 2004-2007 were my dark ages, so Mata Nui was what defined Bionicle for me. However, I did like the feel of Metru Nui, and I'm not really against the natural evolution of things. Indeed, when I caught up on the story in 2008/2009, I liked what I read. I just think Mata Nui had more world building than some of the other places; but we did spend three years there, after all. And again, there's always the nostalgia--something about the incongruity of advanced biomechanical life forms with a tribal existence on a low-tech island fascinated me. That's why I'm glad that it looks like we'll be returning to such a state.

I think Po-Koro, in the MNOLG, was a great amalgamation of different desert-dwelling cultures--you had Arabic/middle eastern nomadic influences with the goats and some music, aboriginal Australian influences with other music, the Egyptian influences Aanchir mentioned, and even some influences from the Pueblo peoples of the American Southwest (the Po-Matoran huts aren't shaped like the adobe houses of pueblos or cliff dwellings, but they are non-nomadic adobe-esque houses in a canyon). I hope that the tribes are this way in the new Bionicle--that they incorporate enough different cultural ideas so that you can't just point and say something like "ah, the Ko-Matoran are clearly just alien versions of Tibetan and Nepalese culture," for example. I imagine they would do it that way, after their Maori cultural lesson. I also think it makes for better world building. You can never get away from earth cultures and influences, but you can make it more than just "this culture IN SPACE!" (or, rather, in and on a giant robot)

I think an Australian Pohatu would work if he were inspired by one of the many aboriginal cultures, much as the Matoran were originally inspired by Maori and other Polynesian cultures. It's not that far-fetched, actually--many lived in the desert. Plus, the Po-Koro music in the MNOLG featured didgeridoos.

I only have a few buildings in my town--it's in its very early stages--but I'm modeling it after Colorado mountain towns, so I plan on having lots of country/scenery. Just a stream so far, though.

I agree--as it is, many of the gold masks look different from the masks on the Toa (mainly due to the angle, I assume); moreover, if we didn't have the big picture of Tahu, I would say his mask doesn't look too much like a Hau, just judging by the small picture.

I don't really agree--most stories have world-building backstory. Despite the publishing order, I think the Silmarillion comparison is apt (especially since much of it was written before LOTR, even though it was published later); you don't have to know it to enjoy LOTR, but it can add to your knowledge and enjoyment, especially since there are a few mentions of the wider Tolkien lore in LOTR. Similarly, it's possible to have something like "After creating paradise, the Great Spirit Mata Nui rested in the legendary mask of life. Now that a mysterious evil threatens the Great Spirit, the villagers charged with protecting the mask have to summon the Toa, six ancient heroes who are destined to awaken him." Again, I doubt that this will happen--but I think it could, and it could be pulled off well.
