  1. "Usually when I refer to System they mean Technic as well." Just wanted to point out that Technic is different from System, even though they're often integrated. I still remember people fuming about how there's "Technic in my Lego! Why can't they just brick-build things?" It seems to have slowly own people over because it's great at doing a specific thing. CCBS/ball joints in general are the same--it's the best way of doing certain things. It's not going to take over System, but I can see it being integrated when it's most useful to do so. I am a huge fan of that Vader. Probably won't get him, but I may point him out to my action-figure-loving friend.
  2. As a former Starbucks barista, I have to say the interior is spot on! The exterior, on the other hand, is much cooler than any Starbucks I've seen (although the one inside an REI comes close), so fantastic job!
  3. I received the DO for my birthday this year; although I've enjoyed looking at the modular buildings and building on a semi-modular scale, I've never been able to find room in the budget for one (I have a kid, and a second on the way, and up till about 9 months ago I've worked crappy, low-paying jobs). I'm nearly finished, and I have to say I really enjoy it. I also like the story; not only do I find it fun (yes, I'm an adult, but I'm also a writer, and I like a good story setting; I don't think it makes it any more childish at all), but it's also given me some inspiration; I haven't done much building since my 1.5-year-old daughter was born, but now I know that my next modular MOC is going to be a Chinese restaurant to go next door.
  4. Thanks for the great review, Oky! I got this set a few days ago for my birthday (it was completely unexpected) and it's an amazing build! This is my favorite modular--not only because it's my first one, but also because it's helped re-start my creative drive. I haven't MOCed much since my daughter was born a year and a half ago, but this set already has me designing my next MOC: a modular Chinese restaurant to go next door! The story of the set certainly helps. It's so great!
  5. It's fascinating--they may be following a Makuta-story that's much more similar to the abandoned one (judging by the idea that, in the original plan for G1, the Mask of Shadows seemed to be clouding his judgement, just as the MoUP seems to be doing now). I hope this is the case--I think I'd really like it if done well.
  6. Right--it's not about how it works, it's about establishing familial relationships.
  7. I'm pretty sure that you don't have to focus on the mechanics of biological reproduction just because it exists. Plenty of characters in kids' stories have kids, with the implication being biological reproduction--but they don't focus on that (like Ninjago, for example). Saying "father to son" or "generations," in my mind, is a way of implying that these characters have kids without getting into all the details of bionic penises and such.
  8. You build like a dairy farmer! In all seriousness, this is great--instantly recognizable to us MI fans, with great scenery and a lot of NPU. I'm particularly fond of that tree.
  9. Interesting to see the reactions--very similar to some reactions to the original leaked photos of the Toa and protectors, so I'll take it with a grain of salt (though if anyone wants to pm me the link, that would be appreciated)
  10. Still, interesting that they're specifically mentioning it--and "an ancient era in Bionicle history" is an interesting choice of words, to be sure. It keeps things very ambiguous.
  11. From the facebook page: The island of Okoto is a mystical place. Today it still reminds us of an ancient era in Bionicle history. Can you discover a sign from the old days in the current story trailer?
  12. Well put! I'm a little disappointed that the different Toa don't really behave differently in regards to strength, speed, etc., but that's ok. It does show that the Skull Spiders can be tough opponents, that's for sure!
  13. Downloaded the app for my new used iPad today--it's mindless, but still pretty fun for what it is. Although it's obviously not nearly as in-depth as the MNOLG, we do get to see some of the villages, which is always nice.
  14. The problem I have with the Swamp Police is the same problem I had with the Forest Police a few years back: jurisdiction. In the USA, at least, the police are the law enforcement force that oversee a city, whereas the sheriff's office oversees a county. It seems like these rural areas would be more the jurisdiction of the sheriff than the police. It's not a huge deal, but it would have been nice to get some cars with "Sheriff" stickers for my (on-again, off-again) mountain town.
  15. I've got to agree. Also, it manages to be somewhat realistic (assuming that the clouds move from east to west) while still clearly showing which region is which.
  16. Oh man. Gali is one of my favorite characters, and ever since we got finalized pictures, she's been my favorite of the Toa sets; I'm glad to see she's so great in the plastic! Thanks so much for this review--Gali has gone from probably my first purchase to definitely my first purchase! She's even better than I thought!
  17. That Protector is great! Seeing it from more angles, I really love the proportions. It's compact and cool--and I love that it has back covering.
  18. I also love the female torso in the dune buggy transporter--about time we got a new one, and the top/jacket combo looks great! I may end up using that for my wife's sigfig.
  19. I'll probably start with Gali, Onua, and a protector or two.
  20. We haven't seen the Mask of Control in set form, either. I doubt that it would be an unseen mask, quite honestly. It would be odd for them to have shown the gold masks at NYCC, then make it one that wasn't shown there.
  21. Same here. I wasn't a fan of how big the later sets got, and I was glad when Hero Factory made the figures smaller. I was worried that Bio2015 would make them too big again--glad this is not the case.
  22. Excellent points, Tazakk. I feel that the 2015 story will probably be much better about this. As fun as it was back in the day to have Greg answer questions, I hope that there won't be something similar with a story team member in 2015. That could make it a lot less convoluted.
  23. I just thought of something (that may have been mentioned before, but not for a while): Greg has been canonizing things in the old continuity left and right (mostly in terms of "sure, I don't see why not"). If there were any meaningful connection between the two continuities--that is, if they were linked somehow--don't you think he would stop shrug-canonizing things and making them more confusing? Any link would be a link to a universe that grows more and more convoluted and detailed, and I doubt Lego would want that. Of course, they could ignore the canonization (as many are doing), but it seems like they would want their employee to stop doing it if it affected the new continuity.
  24. I've always been a fan of the Power Pack music (Bionicle dubstep!). Of course, MNOG takes the top spot for me; it reminds me of much of Peter Gabriel's later music, and his music always seemed to perfectly blend (as Bionicle was described) "the mystical and the mechanical."
  25. Ok, maybe I'm being too picky here, but why do we use ohwunner as the default term, rather than something like genwunner? From what I've seen, people who were big fans of 01 are seemingly the ones who are happiest with the new Bionicle. I've heard so many people say excitedly that this feels like 2001, whereas I've heard some fans of later eras say they're not satisfied (or at least say something like "Vezon needs to show up!") I get that "ohwunner" was supposed to be a clever term, but it doesn't seem like it applies, especially since most people who complain about the CCBS builds don't indicate when they were fans. It just seems weird to me. Anyway.
