  1. Hey, as someone who has a bachelor's degree in English, I resemble that remark! ;)
  2. I think I heard that it was actually because people associated green with jungle/plants rather than air.
  3. Yeah, that looks like a normal spiderweb to me. That's something that spiders are well known for. I really, really doubt we'll see Hordika of any kind next year.
  4. I know I'm a bit late, but I like these flaws. For those who think they make the Toa "babies" or "frightened children": I'm 25 years old, I climb mountains, and I'm afraid of heights. I'm overcoming this fear as I climb more and more mountains, because one of the only ways of overcoming a phobia is exposing yourself to it. Having a phobia isn't a sign of weakness. While you may prefer following a team of perfect gods or "dark and edgy" anti heroes, a majority of people actually enjoy characters they can relate to on at least some level. It's usually part of good storytelling. Who knows, maybe a kid who gets made fun of because she's clumsy or because he's afraid of the dark--both by kid bullies and by adults who pull the kind of "what are you, a baby?" nonsense that you did--will see that having a trait like that doesn't mean that you can't be brave, strong, heroic, and good. Maybe they'll see that this trait isn't some shameful thing that's keeping them from being what they want to be--that it's something they can work on while still doing good. Maybe an AFOL who is afraid of heights will like that Onua feels a bit more lifelike--a more complex character rather than a stock character type. I think that's a good thing.
  5. I agree completely. MNOG and Monkey Island are really the only games from my childhood that I still occasionally play today (although if I still had my old N64 or GameCube, the Zelda games would join that list). I actually liked the non-set-accuracy of the MNOG, just as I like the same feature the new animation has. I even like the new animation a bit more; it helps with world-building, I think. I like that both the sets and the animations are different ways of expressing the characters.
  6. As silly as "kaboom-erang" is, I'm glad we're getting specific attacks. I mean, I liked the way they did it in G1, as well, when the powers were more vague--and I think there's still room for vagueness. But having a couple signature moves that each Toa is known for is a good idea, too. It gives something solid to work with other than "can control element."
  7. I think the new animations are only slightly less set-accurate than the MNOG. People think that the MNOG was super set accurate, but it took a lot of design liberties, too (look at the Ruru/Pakari, or the Matoran arms, for example). So I agree that the animation style isn't the same, but they're both stylized 2d animations.
  8. Why would a golden aura make people think that the golden Skull Spider mask is a shape-shifted Mask of Creation? And why does the assumption that the Mask of Creation can shapeshift mean that the Mask of Control can't? Edit: Oh man, ninja'd! Or, as someone on BZP said, Kapura'd!
  9. Thanks for the info--I haven't been able to watch the interviews yet. Faber defined Bionicle for me, even more than Greg (I was a fan from 2001-2003, then again from 2009 on); glad that he gives his approval!
  10. Meh, they made stylized, colorful Flash-animated webisodes long before they made 3d movies. I like it--it's a nice return to roots.
  11. Interesting--I hope that the Toa have elemental powers on their own, and not just from the masks. I also wonder whether wearing the masks will be a biological necessity this time.
  12. Looking at that more detailed picture of Okoto on the Bionicle facebook page, I realized that, while exaggerated, it's still somewhat realistic and well laid-out--all the drier climes are on the western side of the mountain, while the wetter ones are on the east. If the clouds move from east to west, this makes sense. The separations are still abrupt, but still. I like that level of detail.
  13. Yeah, I also prefer the web animations to a tv show
  14. I love those pictures--the art style really is reminiscent of the MNOG, but it keeps its own style. Okoto looks awesome, both in the less cartoony top view and what we see of the landscape itself. I may like it even better than Mata Nui. And I think it's great that the boxes will have small cartoons on them. Really, the immersion into this world that we're seeing reminds me of 2001, and that's a very good thing in my book (the feeling that it was a real island with real legends and history, not just a backdrop, was part of what I love about Bionicle when I first got hooked). Also, Ekimu's sarcophagus? Oh man.
  15. I'm a bit confused about the masks/golden masks. Do their regular masks have any power, or is it only the golden ones that bring enhanced elemental control? If the latter is the case, it looks like masks of power are generally gold, and unpowered masks are not, which would be interesting.
  16. I'm really glad that (as far as I can tell) the masks aren't made from disks. I don't know why, but that always struck me as really weird. It seemed like an unnecessary extra step, and an excuse to make the disks more collectible.
  17. Cool to see more details in that video (although I really hope that the whole "hype train" and "Omega Tahu" stuff will just go away). I really like the back, and I'm glad to see the gear function works well while still allowing the arms to be poseable.
  18. Well, yeah, when you put it like that, of course it's confusing. First, as Mesonak hinted at, the connection isn't likely to play a very huge role. In addition, look at the Star Trek reboot (since that seems to be the most apt). I'm a fan of the three Star Trek shows from the 90s*: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine (which is my personal favorite), and Voyager. Those three shows developed a lot of older lore and built a very complex and well-thought-out universe. This is the universe from which Spock Prime came in the reboot: a universe shaped by the Borg, the Dominion War, the Bajoran wormhole, exploration of other quadrants, etc. How much of that was mentioned in the reboot? None of it. People don't have to know the old shows to enjoy the movie (in fact, I think that enjoyment of the old shows decreases enjoyment of the reboot in this case--but that's a discussion for another time, as it doesn't appear that Bionicle will make the same mistakes from what we've seen). My sister-in-law (who is much younger than my wife and me) liked the reboots, but she didn't even know that there were previous series. If there are, in fact, ties to the old universe, I doubt that Lego will go out of its way to needlessly complicate the new Bionicle, just like Abrams didn't go out of his way to needlessly complicate the rebooted Star Trek. *Yeah, I know TNG started in 1987 and Voyager ended in 2001, but the majority of episodes from the three shows were in the 90s.
  19. I hope the old storyline isn't connected, and this is all rumors. Of course, I have no doubt that yet could pull it off well--I just kind of hope they don't. Also, I think it would be cool if Makuta's status as Ekimu's brother could make some kind of reconciliation possible, even if it were just pre-death, as with Darth Vader. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
  20. I know this has been said in other words before, but 2001 was also very much a one-year plot. Very much so. Six heroes find six masks each, then they'll be powerful enough to defeat the Makuta and awaken Mata Nui. If I remember correctly, the original Bionicle was supposed to be a one-year thing, and we would have found out Mata Nui's true nature at the end of 2001.
  21. Looking at Ekimu and Makuta again, it's interesting to note that their color schemes follow those of the old Technic CyberSlam theme. Or, to use the parlance that I've seen way too often in these past few weeks, #cyberslam2015confirmed. Sigh.... Anyway. Obviously there's no connection, but it is kind of cool to see the teal/purple contrast again.
  22. I like how they've made Makuta and Ekimu similar to the villagers. It makes the Toa seem that much more alien and epic, and it makes the brothers fit in better with their world.
  23. Well played, well played! I just realized how much I like that the Toa weren't featured in the video. Obviously they'll play an important role, but establishing a backstory/legend without even mentioning the year's main heroes feels pretty MNOG-ish to me. It really drives home that they're part of a bigger story.
  24. I actually really like that Ekimu and Makuta seem to be smaller. It fits, I think. Weren't you the one who was convinced that the original leaks were fake? ;)
  25. This is even better than I had expected. I love the way they're handling the reboot--it's different, but still has a very Bionicle feel.
