Scooby-Doo 2015 Rumours & Discussion
Still Raindrop replied to TheLazyChicken's topic in LEGO Licensed
I doubt that we will be seeing Scrappy, Scooby-Dum, Vincent van Ghoul, etc.--and I think part of this is that they weren't in the originals and the franchise has moved on from them. Kids in 2015 won't necessarily know who Scrappy is, and that era seemed to become something of an old shame since the late 90s. I could be wrong, of course.- 1,699 replies

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Still Raindrop replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I think a corner building with entrances on both sides could be interesting. This is something I see in some buildings in my city, but all official modulars have had just one door on the corner. Although I suppose Cafe Corner did have one door on the side. Still. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Still Raindrop replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I could see it being a post office with parking for a mail van on one side. A gas station would be cool, but probably too small for an official modular. I'm just glad that they're almost guaranteed not to produce the building I'm currently designing! -

Excellent job--especially those lecherous eyelids! Instantly recognizable! -

That's a good point. I still may end up getting it and incorporating it into my town. Who knows....- 1,699 replies

Well, those Chinese take-out bricks are perfect for a Chinese restaurant MOC I'm making. I hope they become available in other sets (or at least have decent aftermarket prices).

Scooby-Doo 2015 Rumours & Discussion
Still Raindrop replied to TheLazyChicken's topic in LEGO Licensed
Oh, man--for some reason I had thought the Mystery Machine was 6-wide, and I was going to get it for my modular town. Now that I see it's 8-wide, I'm not so sure. It looks great as it is, but I wonder if it will look too big next to buildings.- 1,699 replies

Thanks for the review--brings back memories! I was 13 when this set came out, and I had been a huge LEGO Island fan since the very first game. I remember being so excited to hear that a LEGO Island theme was finally happening, and then being slightly disappointed by these sets (even though I got several). As a 2002 set, this isn't too bad at all--decent building design and lots of cool play features (I remember that bungee jump being lots of fun). The disappointment came when I realized that this was supposed to be the Information Center, which had been a bigger (and cooler) building in the first two games (plus, why is the Infomaniac so grouchy-looking here?). But as a standalone set, it was fun--thanks for taking the time to photograph it!

Review: 31036 Creator Toy and Grocery Shop 3-in-1
Still Raindrop replied to mostlytechnic's topic in LEGO Town
As a fan of Creator houses, I really want to like this set. However, I think that Creator houses have long filled a niche that's neglected elsewhere: residential houses. We haven't had a larger residential house since 2013; I'm not sure if these sets have anything to do with that, but it seems like they may be the replacement for larger houses. And I'd much rather have a larger house set than a set like this. I also agree with many others here; something about it just feels incomplete. I think that the various City business buildings we've gotten in recent years (including those in this year's City Square--which is much more expensive than this, but also contains much more) make for better buildings at this scale. -
I'm building mine (already built the pet shop itself, now building the house). It's fascinating seeing all the part changes that have happened since 2011--I've noted that the fence pieces, the antenna pieces (to which the letters are clipped), the bucket piece (in back of the pet shop), and the ski pieces are all updated somewhat significantly (I may be missing one or two). I like most of the changes, but I don't think the newer style skis work as well above the door. Fortunately, I got the Winter Village Toy Shop the first year it was sold, so I was able to swap out the new white skis for old-style ones.

Original Bionicle vs CCBS discussion
Still Raindrop replied to MakutaOfWar's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Yeah, I'd say the piston aesthetic IS Throwbots. At least, it fit there better, what with completely mechanical beings. Put another way, Bionicle has always shared aesthetics with previous lines--and it has made its own changes to the style. -
Oh, I don't know--if my butt could click into my seat and keep me in place, I probably wouldn't need any more safety features. ;)

Mine arrived today. My wife has been texting me pictures of it, which makes my day at work seem really long!

Well, since my baby left me / I found a new place to dwell / It's down at the end of Lonely Street at / Heartlake Hotel I'm looking forward to seeing interior pictures of that hotel! From what I can see through the windows, it looks like we'll get lots of great interior detail!

I mean, the Toa already have use of language--it's not too far a stretch to assume that they're familiar with idiom, figures of speech, etc. I do see why people found this expression odd--in G1, expressions did tend to be very specific to Mata Nui and the Matoran universe. This sometimes added to immersion, but it also sometimes led to a "hold your hippogrifs" situation. Since needles and hay presumably exist on Okoto, I see no reason for the writers to go out of their way to create a new expression (I'm a Trekkie, and Star Trek has a history of adding in odd expressions when they're not needed--it can be silly).

I'm just now catching up with the episodes--is it just me, or does the animated LOSS look a lot like Brak?

Hey, I just received that same email!

Mine says it's in the warehouse, too--I ordered it on April 6.

This looks great! I'm really impressed with how you managed to get the look down. The proportions are great, and that head is phenomenal! I don't think they'll forget. Remember, the actors in the original Star Wars all thought of it as just a kids' movie, and Lucas specifically aimed many parts of the franchise at kids. Kids have always been a huge target for Star Wars, and it hasn't stopped adults from enjoying it.

This is great! It's not often that I see modernist modulars, but this captures the look of a modern fire station perfectly! I particularly like the top floor--both the exterior and the interior.

When the Pet Shop first came out, I remember everyone talking about how much of a disappointment it was--how it didn't fit the style of the earlier modulars at all, how it was nothing more than a glorified Creator house set, etc. And now, most people seem to love it! Maybe the DO will undergo the same fate in a few years.

May 11--good to have a solid(ish) date, at least!

Ordered mine on April 6, and am still waiting. I did get the free "Kai Drifter" polybag already, though. So, that's something. It will be interesting to see if it really does take only 30 days to ship. I'm moving around the end of July, so I hope it gets shipped before then!

This is lots of fun! Makes me look forward to when my daughter and son are old enough to build with me (although my daughter is quite adept with her Duplo bricks).

Very well said. As an AFOL and as the father of both a daughter and a son, I've been learning this more and more (and I have to say, the Friends ice cream bike fits in perfectly with my modular buildings).
