Karie's Cosplay Mafia: Conclusion
jimmynick replied to Kintobor's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
This was a fun one that had me doubting myself the whole time! Well done to the scum and @Khscarymovie4 in particular, whose hammer on @KotZ served up some excellent WIFOM... I really thought @Tariq j was the last scum. Thanks for hosting and keeping us entertained, @Kintobor! I had a blast. -
Shocked at Hopper's death, which was a surprise shortly after Billy's more or less predictable expiration. Whatever will I do without Indiana Jones daddy? Hop had better not be "the American" in Kamchatka after all of these feelings I've had. The use of Russian in this season was pretty decent - I was laughing my megablocks off at the "fat Rambo" joke, and Murray repeating in English only made it funnier. I felt that Season One was nice and compact, whereas this and Two had much more to tell. That said, this season did get going much faster than Season Two, in which nothing much happened until Will was possessed. Yeah, definitely - in the first few episodes I found myself wondering "where did this megablock come from?"

After swearing I wouldn't buy any more this year, I went and got the Stranger Things D2C today. Also saw the new HP wave, quite impressed.

Karie's Cosplay Mafia: Day Three
jimmynick replied to Kintobor's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Very astute point. But he had nobody to tell, and if he announced in public then he's just blowing his load to the scum's benefit. If the result gave you reason to doubt your sanity, why didn't you go straight to Bob? I mean, if you're a cop and you find someone is town, you don't hold back from PMing them because "they might be godfather" or "I might be insane" or "I might be naive" or "they might have been tailored". This is the sticking point for me, which is why I am leaving my vote on you. That's not what he's saying, though. What KotZ says is fairly clear: Assume Hinck is town and KotZ is a cop who got a scum result. Scum know that Hinck is town, so if KotZ announces his result then the scum know something is up with the investigation ability. Now, that wouldn't be my first concern about going public on Day Two with an investigation result, but it's a valid line of reasoning. and wow a lot of stuff happened when I was at work! Glad Kinto hasn't closed the thread so I could get my two cents in. I don't mean just the result but also Tauriel's flip. So Tracer and Kylo have both asked why the purported cop didn't out himself on Day Two. Good going, guys. Not that we should believe ol' Newt, but this isn't the sharpest take you could have on the situation. tho you should't yourself be worried about sanity on Day Two. -

I don't buy that. You distinguish between Tracer and Raphael in your post, so surely you knew of some of the reasons people voted for him? Or were you just not paying attention and putting an opportunistic hammer-minus-one vote on our ninja turtle friend? The same way you opportunistically hammered dear old Tauriel yesterday? If there's nothing to it, you don't need to dignify it with a response. In the post you quoted, where Sir Stig accused you of discussing "mafia strategies", I can't find anything that remotely resembles what I think he means, which is why I called it dumb in my last post: Yet you're all het up about it. Vote: Newt Scamander (KotZ) -

What happened to the part where I was scum, Tyrion? Did you just forget? You forgot about me! I was apparently "still the top" at the end of the day yesterday! What changed? You hurt my feewings! Egon already said it but this is stupid and an invitation for scum to steamroll us. This train of thought has nothing to do with Tracer whatsoever, does it? Why is she on your mind? Quite frankly I feel uneasy that 3 of my Top Ten Anime Scum (uwu) have voted for Raphael in quick succession. I feel yet uneasier that Tyrion took 12 minutes between vomiting his sangria all over the floor (party foul!) and voting for Sir Stig, which he did practically the moment Korra gave him a playful for his language. It's possible a writeboard was involved in the timing of that interaction. Korra appears to be hyper-defensive over a single comment that Raphael made that itself was a bit dumb. Maybe it's just that we have different styles: if I think someone has bogus accusations, I tell them they're stupid, and apparently Korra does not. But maybe she does have something to hide. -

Although it's disappointing to have lost Tauriel, it's good to know that what he said was in good faith since I shared some of his thoughts in the past couple of days. Did you accidentally a word? I mean yeah, there's no point speculating about who has what role since that distracts from the task at hand. Going over yesterday's posts, I find it interesting that when Trekkie99 says something you disagree with, you say: but when I write something that you disagree with, you get up my backside and obviously cannot give it a rest. Are you going soft on Tyrion because he's your scum buddy, and going hard on me to get me out of the way? It wouldn't be the first time someone's spewed a load of crap at me. I remember a pirate ship where this happened and everyone went wild over it. -
Nancy's and Jonathan's voices both get the same echo when we hear them from the other side so I think it's reasonable to attribute the same cause ot the same effect: namely sound traveling across dimensions, rather than through the gate in the tree. Another example of sound traveling from the Upside Down to the real world is the scene where Joyce discovers Will in the wall - though it's arguable whether he is behind a gate and she simply does not break through to him fast enough. It's not that there's no need for Christmas lights - rather, it's the first means of communication that Joyce discovers. Additionally, Will has an incentive to stay silent when he's hiding, so we don't hear from him very often. Exactly - it's a real place in its own right.

Interesting... to me the parallels between the two worlds are just that, and they are physical realities unto themselves. Like Pete's World in NuWho. We see the physicality of the Upside Down when the tunnels extend underground, and when little gates crop up here and there. If anything in the series is a liminal space, it's Eleven's dark watery headspace - and in the chronology of the story, that place is where we first see anything (the Demogorgon) from the alternate reality. Maybe I'm misinterpreting quite what you mean but there are instances when sound from the Upside Down crosses the gap to the real world - in particular I think of the scene where Jonathan and Nancy try to find each other in season 1.

What do you mean by "interdimensional", though? The Upside Down seems to be a place in and of itself, rather than some liminal location. If the Upside Down is interdimensional, what would be extradimensional?

I think the Mind Flayer was an interesting direction in which to take the show - but what I had hoped for was some more info on how it relates to the creatures (but of course they seem to do the Big Bad's bidding). I think we'll learn more about that relationship (as well as its relationship to the Upside Down) in the next season, since the trailer implies that it got stuck on "this" side of the gate after they exorcised Will. Not sure how I thought about the introduction of Eight. I mean, the standalone episode with her and Eleven was a great story, but I worry that this storyline will take the series too much in the direction of Orphan Black, which lost my interest early in the third season because they heaped plots on top of plots with no end in sight. As for the ontology of the Upside Down, I'm perfectly happy with what we're given. It's some sort of parallel dimension and Eleven brought her world into contact with it. If they tell us any more about the sci-fi physics of it, it will bog down the story. I'm less interested in what it is and where it came from than I am in how the kids (and Steve, Joyce & Hopper) deal with its existence.

Karie's Cosplay Mafia: Day Two
jimmynick replied to Kintobor's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
OK, lemme break this down for you. If someone says "OMFG Daphne died, I super super hope she wasn't the cop" that's congratulating the scum on their choice of kill. That's what Kylo Ren did, and I didn't like it. The "defeatist attitude" is the tone of how Sandy said it: more or less "well shit we've lost our (possible )cop, what are we going to do now." There are these things called context clues, like when I contemplated possible reasons that people voted for Tauriel but not Newt: where you can read "scum don't want to trump up charges against him" as "scum don't want to bring attention to one of their own". Not everything has to be "I think X is scum because of Y and Z." I remember when a certain Senator played a fairly stupid game and ended up being scum... There's not much I can do when I point out reasons for my votes and all you can say is "that's not a reason, I can't read, la di da". -
Anyone want to talk about the show? I watched both box sets in the past couple of weeks. Season 1 was fairly strong but Season 2 relied on passing around the idiot ball. What does everyone else think? In the coming season I'm looking forward to Billy and the middle-aged mothers, as well as Steve in his sailor outfit.

Karie's Cosplay Mafia: Day Two
jimmynick replied to Kintobor's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Good observation. Nota bene that nobody is interested in voting for Newt. Might that be because he's playing a fairly innocuous game, so we don't have reason to vote for him, and because scum don't want to trump up charges against him? Now, I know not to trust anything anyone says, but Tauriel has a point that Sir Stig's vote is stupid. But my objection is for a different reason: You seem to have no reasons to choose Tauriel over Newt, or vice versa. "I don't feel like it" is a crap reason to vote for one over the other. As I pointed out to Korra, we don't look for excuses to vote for someone: we look for reasons. I also observe that @Trekkie99, despite endorsing my early vote, didn't follow my lead until Sandy and Hinck were both on 3 votes each. If I entertain the thought that Tauriel and Tyrion are scum together, that rules out Kylo Ren. Megabluck it. Unvote Kylo Ren (Sandy) Vote: Newt Scamander (KotZ) -

One could go back to my comment that Kylo Ren has a defeatist attitude on Day Two. Tauriel, too, has pointed out reasons Why are we looking for excuses to vote? I think Kylo is not acting in our best interests, so I voted for him Since I last posted, though, Tyrion seems to have been digging a hole: what? If you think my vote is an astute move, why don't you follow me? It seems we have a great arm's length triangle of finger pointing, where Tyrion, Tauriel and Kylo all hate each other but aren't (with the exception of Sandy's vote for Hinck) formalizing that suspicion by voting. It reminds me of a love triangle I'm in with Green Arrow and the Flash. Thanks for putting words into my mouth. "anti-town" also includes townies who are acting dumb, like a certain Mall-Cop-Draq-Queen did a few months ago. I'd put Tyrion in "anti-town" too. He might be scum, third party, or town, but he certainly isn't helping us. Actually, I voted "early" (check the timestamp - more than 24 hours into the day) because I wanted to hunker down and watch some TV, and also because I thought it would prompt some discussion. And here we are. -

I find Sandy's attitude anti-town, and saying she hopes Daphne wasn't the cop smacks almost of congratulating scum for Chromeknight's death. To reiterate for Karie's benefit: Vote: Kylo Ren (Sandy) I also find it interesting that Tyrion has tacitly endorsed my vote while instead giving a token prod to a silent cosplayer, and curious also that Tauriel has contrived to vote for Bob over the use of a single word. I mean, Tauriel could have voted for me because I used phrase "vigilante mob business", but no dice. It seems like Tyrion and Tauriel are at arm's length, pointing a great big finger but not doing anything about it. -

Yeah, I wouldn't exactly characterize my response to Bob as "interaction". It was Trekkie, but no memes - just several emojis. A little defeatist here, and we're only on Day Two! What switch? Tariq J only posted twice yesterday: After Hinck said my name and meant Chromeknight, do you now say Tariq J and mean Bob? -

You mean my throwaway line about "vigilante mob business" where I deliberately inserted the word "mob" so it wouldn't look like a softclaim because it was a joke about my cosplay and how my waifu Batman is a masked vigilante? Not to mention the practice of lynching is a classic of vigilante mobs in the wild wild west? I think you're reading too much into it. Someone did PM me about it and directly accused me of softclaiming. Want to guess who? -
Very nice! You've captured the essence of the house very well. The window frames seem a little bit thick, affecting my impression of the house's proportions, but it's generally excellent. That's a lot of sand green cheese slopes you've got there.

My goodness, this is a blast from the past. The Thunderbird 2 model reminds me of that toy from back in the 90s. The others are all so wonderful (except for the wings on Thunderbird 1 - a little chunky). FAB 1 is great - the bubble canopy and grille are instantly recognizable (not to mention the pink!). If this were an official set I'd buy it in a heartbeat - doubly so if it sweetened the deal with minifigures of the Tracy clan.
