Ever ordered the wrong part from Bricklink?
Criosphynx replied to Takanuinuva's topic in General LEGO Discussion
No, but with some of the rarer parts, especially vintage ones. I'm worried the seller will send me the wrong one and am stoked when the right one arrives. -

I was really really excited for this set, until I saw the price tag. Shame, but I won't be buying this new. Perhaps used when the time comes

I am 90% done at this point sorting by color and have started sorting by part type a little bit. II tried sorting by part type first years ago and that did not go well at all. Usually I just split out whatever is obvious first, for example I had to make a second drawer for all my black slopes as there were just soooo many of them. I've been using drawers at the moment but I'm quickly running out of space because they can only be stack so high before the bottom wont open anymore. I hope to have a shelf system to place them on in the future when I get to a more permanent abode. I'm super frugal and wanted to mention that I find those nice sterilite drawers pretty regularly at mom and pop thrift shops for very cheap. Also if I see one on the road on trash day being tossed I grab it, even if its broken, because in about a month I'll find another thats broken in a different way and I'll use the parts to make one unit. I probably have several hundred dollars in nice sterilite drawers and I think I've spent less than $15 so far if even that. Something to think about if you are on a budget which I know many of us are. :)

REVIEW: 71018 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 17
Criosphynx replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I am a bit odd that I don't really like minifigures all that much, I don't collect them, I just accumulate them over time, they are sort of secondary to the buildings and vehicles. I like seeing the series however, and I'll pick up a pack or two every other series or so just for the surprise factor. I do however really, really enjoy collecting the dinosaurs and other animals and building mocs for them. ( I just had a new raptor come in the mail yesterday and was beyond giddy) I prefer to use fabuland figs when I can. Even as a kid I didn't play with the minifigures but was obsessed with the fabuland figures and brick built animal figures I had made :::shrug::: Glad I could make you smile! :) -

[MOC] [WIP] Back To The Future: Hill Valley 1885
Criosphynx replied to Gerechtigkeitsliga's topic in LEGO Licensed
Looking forward to anything you make for BTTF. I adore stuff like this, good job -
eeeeeee! Yes! This looks awesome. I've only ever seen Ninjago, which I think is well written. Hopefully this will be the same.

This one is pretty awesome, unfortunately I didn't have it as a kid. However as an adult its been plentiful, I ended up with a duplicate, so I rebuilt recently in order to sell it. I had forgotten how awesome it was. I also think it makes better use of this baseplate than the Mountain fortress did. If I recall correctly another member recently did a remake of this on a brick build base instead of using the baseplate, and it was stunning.

#6085 is mine. I brooded over it in catalogs for about a year and then received it for my 7th birthday. I have 3 copies of Vladeks castle, the lego store had piles of them in crushed/ heavily damaged boxes for 50% off or something ridiculous. I bought as many as I could afford at the time. I made one giant one out of it that was pretty cool. Might have pics of that somewhere. I know a lot of people didn't like that line or that castle, but I certainly did.

What would be considered a "large" LEGO collection?
Criosphynx replied to Brikkyy13's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Thats a good idea, I've meant to do that, however I frequently buy "bulk" job lots of misc so I have no real way to keep track in those cases.- 36 replies

[Review] 6973 Deep Freeze Defender from Ice Planet 2002
Criosphynx replied to delta7890's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
For some reason as a kid I didn't like ice planet enough to buy any. My friends brother had this set so I did get to see it, and slightly tinker with it when he wasn't looking (I liked the sliding door on the top rear). Now I think its a great theme and I'm currently collecting parts to build this iconic set (about 95% there, I just finished getting all that orange). Its nice to see what all its functions are so I understand why I need certain parts. This one seems to be in good condition, which is fantastic, white doesn't always age well. Thanks for sharing.- 10 replies

What would be considered a "large" LEGO collection?
Criosphynx replied to Brikkyy13's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Well according to my brickset account, which is not super accurate, I have 94 sets, but I never finished adding them, so Its probably more like 120. I am not that big on actual sets but have hundreds of lbs of "parts" for moc ing/partial sets/ extra parts that don't really go to anything specific. I don't really have a way to know piece count. I am quite shocked by some of the numbers I'm seeing here, wowzers/jealous. Personally, I still view a "large" collection as I would have as a kid, if I was a 10 year old kid and I went to someones house, what would my impression be? By that metric anything around 50lbs and up would be "large" to me. I still think my collection is "big" because I'm not comparing it to the other hobbyists really, I guess. It feels big to me and thats what matters. I have the sets I want and I can pull parts to finish things with ease, which is whats important to me. To each their own.- 36 replies

Someones childhood collection for $140 (including shipping) 47lbs of mostly early 90s stuff, I've counted 21 sets so far, and I know theres more I haven't identified yet. Everything so far appears complete and in excellent condition. Highlights so far include the Royal knights castle, Armada Flagship, Slave 1 (the only not early 90s thing so far), the rock raiders HQ and the Deep Reef Refuge. Fort legoredo might be there too, but I'm not certain yet.

Look what I just got - Report your latest Pirate LEGO acquisitions
Criosphynx replied to V()()D()()'s topic in LEGO Pirates
I bought a sealed set once and it was about 2 days before I opened it. It was a fabuland set too, so pretty old. I kinda regret it now, but I also know that I can't have sealed stuff around. I did keep the box however. I had some sealed modulars I sold recently and used the money to buy used ones (and keep the difference) I have a few framed lego posters I like to look at, I guess its sort of like that? Just enjoy looking at them ::shrug::; Resale value doesn't hurt either. I was shocked with what my sealed stuff sold for, my goodness. So I'm guessing some people also view it as an investment. -
As a kid I always wanted #6285, the Black seas Barracuda. I remember being in toys r us as a kid and it was on the clearance table, on sale for $189 or something like that ( I think it was normally $200? I don't remember, this was in 1990 or so). I thought I might be short a couple bucks so I decided to put it down and buy the set I had already picked up that I knew for sure I had enough money for because I didn't want to be embarrassed at the register and yelled at by my mother if I didn't do the math in my head correctly. I figured I'd get the pirate ship in a few months or so when I had money again. My sub ten year old brain didn't understand that the ship was on sale because it was being discontinued and It was never on the shelves again. I bought a massive collection last year from an old lady for $200. Among the many, many other sets was my beloved #6285. I seriously had to not cry when I saw it,. So I got a great deal, but had to wait a few decades. :P
