  1. I am watching just2good's review of 70162 - Infearno Interception and I think the flame helmet for the villain is likely to be reused as Ghost Rider. When LEGO makes a new mold, they rightly want to get the most out of it. They also love to do motorcycles. What do you guys think?
  2. LEGO does not make those exclusives with new molds. They either make the molds before the exclusive or in the case of The Simpson's house where the Collectible Minifigs came about a month later and use the same molds. If LEGO was to only make one last LotR set, there would be no other set to help defray the cost of the new molds. You can see this at work in LotR wave two where we got the Saruman hair and the eagle in sets just before the Orthanc. Cheaper sets can sell more copies which makes helps cover the cost of the mold better. Even though Manis Tirith could contain most everything if it was a $400 set, I would not be able to afford it. I vote for the Witch King. --- Middle-Earth Madness has gone on for 20 weeks. Once I switched to the more popular sets, it really shortened the game. After all, there is no challenge to set Minas Morgul against Fangorn Forest. I could continue after this wave, but I doubt any newcomers would lose to either of Minas Tirith or the Witch King. My initial plan was a March Madness style tournament. We would take 16 or 32 sets and pair them off each week the survivors would go one against each other. I could not successfully run 16 matches in one thread a week without polls. Now that I can do it, I wonder how long to let this contest rest before relaunching it in a new format. Let me know what you think? Shall we relaunch into a new more complex tournament bracket? If so, shall we give this game a break for a week(s)/month(s)?
  3. I agree Alcarin. Those are the two things I am waiting for to say whether LotR has already ended.
  4. This is twentieth and final week of Middle-Earth Madness. The final match was destined to be between the Witch King and Minas Tirith. Which will you choose? Witch King Showdown OR Minas Tirith These are dream sets so there is no hard or fast rule on what has to be included in either. Imagine you had a chance to greenlight just one LEGO Lord of the Rings set based on a simple description. Which one would you want? Feel free to respond with comments; however, the official balloting will be the poll. Summary from previous weeks: Week 19 - Witch King Showdown defeats the Gondor Battle Pack 26 to 15 Week 18 - Witch King Showdown defeats the Elven Battle Pack 25 to 5 Week 17 - Witch King Showdown defeats Mûmakil Stampede 27 to 5 Week 16 - Mûmakil defeats Warg Battle Pack 17 to 2 Week 15 - Mûmakil tramples the Dead Marshes 19 to 0 Week 14 - Mûmakil defeats Ruins of Osgiliath 12 to 8 Week 13 - Ruins of Osgiliath beats Bridge of Khazad-Dum 12 to 8 Week 12 - Ruins of Osgiliath defeats Edoras 19 to 12 Week 11 - Ruins of Osgiliath defeats Minas Morgul 25 to 7 Week 10 - Minas Morgul flattens Fangorn Forest 29 to 1 Week 9 - Minas Morgul smashes the Gray Havens 30 to 5 Week 8 - Minas Morgul routes the Modor Battle Pack 25 to 16 Week 7 - Modor Battle Pack defeats Amon Hen 27 to 7 Week 6 - Modor Battle Pack defeats Lothlórien 24 to 14 Week 5 - Lothlórien defeats Prancing Pony 23 to 13 Week 4 - Lothlórien crashes Mount Doom 35 to 5 Week 3 - Mount Doom defeats the Rohan Battle Pack 14 to 11 Week 2 - Rohan Battle Pack defeats the Watcher in the Water 14 to 7 Week 1 - Rohan Battle Pack defeats The Green Dragon 23 to 4.
  5. Witch King Showdown defeats the Gondor Battle Pack 26 to 15. The final round starts soon.
  6. This gives me a good idea. The female character they really need to add is one playing in the basement with Finn. I don't mean his sister that is so young that she plays with Duplos. She should be a peer of Finn who contributes to the storytelling. That would bring a different meta element to the story. The first movie is about a father who learned to allow his son access to his toys. The second film could be more of the difference and the similarities of how boys and girls relate to LEGO. If they go with this route, it would also drive more female minifigure and minidoll participation in the story within the story.
  7. ReslpsaLoquitur, I agree completely about Unikitty. Though it would have been a problem if she was the only female character in the cast. I could see adding a female spaceman to offset Benny. I would want that character more fleshed out than just being his girlfriend. That is the point of the Bechdel Test, the female characters need to be defined more than just by the male characters. Good writing to do that with any new character. I would rather spend more time Middle Zealand than revisit the Wild West. But that is just female. So instead of a space girlfriend for Benny, I would rather see a forestwoman character added. If you had to hook her up with another character, she could still date outside of her theme area.
  8. I cannot think of an existing female character that I want to see added to the cast of The LEGO Movie 2. I really like Wildstyle and surprisingly Unikitty. I hope that both characters have a strong roll in the next movie. I think Wildstyle's character was really well fleshed out. She is a goth, adventuring artist who is brave and creative. She is or at least was a bit insecure. What was a bit ground breaking is that she hoped to be The Special. Contrast her with Trinity in the Matrix where she was preordained to love The One. Wildstyle was a fully realized, complex character. The dynamic of the cast was good in the first film, but since Vitruvius died, you do have an opening for a mentor. Perhaps a female character can fill that role. Otherwise, beef up Unikitty's role and ensure that Wildstyle is just as complex as important in the next film.
  9. The end is close at hand. This is nineteenth week of Middle-Earth Madness. Witch King rules the field, but can he continue it's reign? If you had to pick only one Dream set, which would it be? Witch King Showdown OR Gondor Battle Pack These are dream sets so there is no hard or fast rule on what has to be included in either. Imagine you had a chance to greenlight just one LEGO Lord of the Rings set based on a simple description. Which one would you want? Feel free to respond with comments; however, the official balloting will be the poll. 10. The end is close at hand. Witch King Showdown defeats the Elven Battle Pack 25 to 5.
  11. A street car sounds very nice. But it would not make for a modular building. I like the idea of a post office or a book store though.
  12. Interesting concept. I don't think I could ever do that myself. However, wouldn't you be better off using a plate with holes in it than a 2 x 2 stud gap. I am just afraid that you would lose too much soil from your pot.
  13. What is everyone's feeling on Rescue Reinforcements? I am really considering this set as I want some of the minifigs. But they time I buy the three unique minifigs separately I almost bought the set. I am still on the fence though. Have you built it? What do you think of the part selection?
  14. Thanks for the review. It was pretty thorough though I would mention that this version of Wildstyle is unique due to her hood being up.
  15. This is eighteenth week of Middle-Earth Madness. Witch King rules the field, but can he continue it's reign? If you had to pick only one Dream set, which would it be? Witch King Showdown OR Elven Battle Pack Just like last week, these are dream sets so there is no hard or fast rule on what has to be included in either. Imagine you had a chance to greenlight just one LEGO Lord of the Rings set based on a simple description. Which one would you want? Feel free to respond with comments; however, the official balloting will be the poll. 16. Witch King Showndown defeats Mûmakil Stampede 27 to 5. The new round is about to begin.
  17. The Medevial Market Village and Helms Deep are great retired sets, but Kingdoms Joust is still available at Shop@Home. It was an excellent selection of bricks and minifigs to start your MOCs. It even includes a Black Falcon knight. http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Kingdoms-Joust-10223
  18. While I agree with Super Goblin, I would also say that the speed of super hero films is such that there will not be the time to go back to hit older movies with direct tie-ins. I think TLG is doing a good job now of hinting at Batman Returns with the latest Penguin set and the first Captain America movie with the latest Avengers set. I like the movie version of some of the characters but not all of them. I prefer the comic version of the X-Men for example. But it was good getting the Dark Knight Rises set too.
  19. Dharkan, it would be a canned message. People would read the inbound emails and decide which of the canned emails that were approved by the legal department to send back. In the Historic board we saw a bunch of these where the employees would add a little personnel touch to them. My experience comes from working at a large Internet provider in the pre-broadband days. Back on topic, the talk of the Haunted House has added it back to my want list. I am uncertain which Modular (or Haunted House) to buy next. It sounds like we are not even sure which of the existing modulars will disappear from the LEGO Store / Shop.LEGO.com next. The only one I have is the Fire Brigade.
  20. I like the new movie title. Too bad it is likely too late for LEGO to throw in another Battle of the Five armies set to better address the focus of the marketing.
  21. 3: 2 points 12: 1 point 15: 2 points 20: 1 point
  22. Look for the poll at the top of this thread. Now that I made Knight, I am able to add polls to these.
  23. This is sixteenth week of Middle-Earth Madness. Mûmakil Stampede still dominates the field, but can it continue it's reign? If you had to pick only one Dream set, which would it be? Mûmakil Stampede OR Witch King Showdown Just like last week, these are dream sets so there is no hard or fast rule on what has to be included in either.
