Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Blakstone replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
True. I only meant that you may want to acquire all that are available at retail price. If you think you will ever want FB, then this is likely your change. I like the build and my custom bicycle shop / apartments are coming along nicely as well. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Blakstone replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Dharkan, if you can get Fire Brigade at retail, I recommend that one. It is gone most places now and the after market costs are starting to climb. It is the only modular I have so far. I need to get another one but at this rate, I have to target those about to be discontinued. There appears to be debate on whether Pet Shop, Town Hall, or Grand Emporium will be next. -
Great texture on the pyramid. You might consider using the dark tan bricks for the top two levels. The eyelid is most impressive though. I need to start working on that style of text too.

Very enjoyable build. My favorite part is the multi-colored hands to make that spear.

Design a NEW LEGO Pirates Sub-Theme - Themes Suggestions
Blakstone replied to Mister Phes's topic in LEGO Pirates
SubTheme: Shiver My Silver The colonial power discovered a mountain of silver. With the natives' help they are shipping it back to their king. But can they keep it safe from the pirates? Faction 1: Blue Coated Colonial Power Based loosely on Potosi in Bolvia, the entrenched power has to mine and ship the silver. Natives help them mine and transport the silver on land.. Faction 2: The Pirates Lead by El Draque (Sir Frances Drake), the Pirates and their native allies seek to steal the silver on land or by sea. My goal is to have two factions with some historical depth that the kids can explore more as they get older. I also want the kids to decide who is the good guys and who is the bad guys. -
Leoric, I liked your Forestman's Watch MOC, but looking through your Flickr, I especially enjoyed the Blak Falcon's residence.

Bachamn, I was thinking of the helmet. However, the Hobbit thread is showing photos of the twilight version without a helmet. This is similar to when Frodo is wearing the ring. Assuming that is the version that is coming in the next Hobbit wave, there would not be any real use of it. However, we don't know how he will appear when Galadriel fights him. I assume that will be in the final movie. I have not seen DoS yet. I was not happy with TabA. So I will only buy DoS when the Extended Edition comes out.

LEGO Minifigures series 12 will not be available until Oct 2014
Blakstone replied to JeagerEX's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The minifigs in some of the earlier releases were hinted at by data mining new parts. Is it too early to start looking there for hints to the next set? I am really looking forward to finding out what the next wave will be. -
Nominate Dream LotR Sets for the Midearth Madness Tournament
Blakstone replied to Blakstone's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Master_Data, Gondor Battle Pack is coming. It will probably be in the final three sets along with Minas Tirith and Eowyn v Witchking. -
I think the twilight Witch King is a decent sign of a third LotR wave. It seems like a way to get two uses out of a single mold. But we don't know if that was the original plan that was scrapped or not. Only time will tell.

I have never tried something that large. But if I were, I would only look at the face and try to rebuild it flat in LEGO Digital Design. Once you get the level of detail you want for the face, you have established the scale you would want for the whole thing. The white highlight in the eyes appears to be 2 studs by 2 studs. I am guessing it was built with 2x4 and 2x2 bricks.

This is sixteenth week of Middle-Earth Madness. Mûmakil Stampede still dominates the field, but can it continue it's reign? If you had to pick only one Dream set, which would it be? Mûmakil Stampede OR Warg Battle Pack Just like last week, these are dream sets so there is no hard or fast rule on what has to be included in either. Imagine you had a chance to greenlight just one LEGO Lord of the Rings set based on a simple description. Which one would you want? Summary from previous weeks: Week 15 - Mûmakil tramples the Dead Marshes 19 to 0 Week 14 - Mûmakil defeats Ruins of Osgiliath 12 to 8 Week 13 - Ruins of Osgiliath beats Bridge of Khazad-Dum 12 to 8 Week 12 - Ruins of Osgiliath defeats Edoras 19 to 12 Week 11 - Ruins of Osgiliath defeats Minas Morgul 25 to 7 Week 10 - Minas Morgul flattens Fangorn Forest 29 to 1 Week 9 - Minas Morgul smashes the Gray Havens 30 to 5 Week 8 - Minas Morgul routes the Modor Battle Pack 25 to 16 Week 7 - Modor Battle Pack defeats Amon Hen 27 to 7 Week 6 - Modor Battle Pack defeats Lothlórien 24 to 14 Week 5 - Lothlórien defeats Prancing Pony 23 to 13 Week 4 - Lothlórien crashes Mount Doom 35 to 5 Week 3 - Mount Doom defeats the Rohan Battle Pack 14 to 11 Week 2 - Rohan Battle Pack defeats the Watcher in the Water 14 to 7 Week 1 - Rohan Battle Pack defeats The Green Dragon 23 to 4. Have a Dream Set to nominate? Do so in this thread. I still have a few sets to go. [Moderators, can you convert this thread into a poll please?]

Lego Loosing the Ball with Superheroes Sets
Blakstone replied to Tom Jurassic's topic in LEGO Licensed
I think LEGO is more willing to produce detailed minifigures with a movie tie-in. That is likely because they expect an older customer to purchase them. I don't know the GotG and though I will probably love the film, I doubt that I would buy those sets. They would not fit in a City with Superheroes or a historic setting. The X-Men set is a top priority for the minifigs but the Sentential looks bad to me. I am not sure how they could have done better at that price point though. -
If they could find a way to get the price to $10 a fig like you suggest Fives, I would likely buy a few sets. I never bought customs but they did a good job on these. I cannot fathom why their prices are that high. I like your proposed expansion ideas as well. IF it was a choice between Osha or Rickon, I pick Osha. I doubt you could make Rickon more distinctive than her.

I would be happy if the system sets return to the Kingdoms factions. I am probably getting this for my nephew. That and one of the new Batman ones.

How about an (possibly) accidental real life likeness such as PC Rob Thomas? I agree though that if a minifig is based on a character from different incarnations and it is not specifically mentioned as being from that particular movie or show, that it should not count. That said, shouldn't Warwick Davis only have four entries as one listed here is him playing a body double of Yoda. He did not do that voice and most of Yoda's performance was puppetry or CGI. Warwick Davis would still be the leader with four though.

My favorite is the monument. You were able to mix a lot textures while keeping with a single color. I am jealous of your statues. I think they only come from the Town Center set. It looks like you have two dark tan pieces in your Angkor Wat Micro. That does not bother me but it might give you issues in the contest.

What is the best £/$ 20 superhero set
Blakstone replied to Peasantseverywhere's topic in LEGO Licensed
1) Chopper Showdown - Satisfying build and great minifigs. 2) Doc Ock's Bank Hiest - Solid build which works for City or any Super Hero layout. I like Doc Ock's too. 3) Loki's Cosmic Cube Escape - That truck was great. Loki and Iron Man are great minifigs too. This is a great price range for Super Hero sets. The only stinker I see is the Zero Escape one. I have them all except for the Manbat one though I have yet to build the Hydra tank.- 18 replies

Nominate Dream LotR Sets for the Midearth Madness Tournament
Blakstone replied to Blakstone's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Good suggestion. I would probably just use the set title of Warg Battle Pack. This way everyone can determine what they think is in the set for themselves. -
So far it looks like this might be the first unanimous round. I would have done the Dead Marshes eariler but it was only recently nominated. I am trying to go from those in the least demand to the higher leaving Minis Tirith, Eowyn v Witchking, and Gondor Battle Pack towards the very end. Feel free to add more ideas to the Nomination thread.

Building The LEGO Movie's Real-World Objects
Blakstone replied to ResIpsaLoquitur's topic in Special LEGO Themes
There was the penny that beheaded a minifig. -
This a great set. I bought three while it was still around. You get a horse, a cannon, and three Union soldiers from a licensed theme for $12. Now if there was only some easy to acquire Confederates for them to fight.
