  1. All the Targets and Walmarts in my area of Oklahoma have long been depleted of the last Hobbit wave for a long time. I did not see any clearances though. But I was in Orange County last week and one Walmart had all the last Hobbit wave as well as the Wizard Battle. So the availability really does vary. I think a Balrog set is an absolute must provided we get any more at all. To me, the Balrog should be brickbuilt instead of a mold. That would would keep costs done and reduce the amount of grey brick needed for the set. I would include Gandalf with battle damage as well as two Moria orcs with brand new prints. Gandalf could sport Thorin's hair in grey as suggested up thread. However, less accurate but more desirable is his trademark hat with hair attached. Including Glamdring would drive a lot of collector interest though. It sounds like even AFOLs that frequent a Future LotR Sets thread frequently might skip this set as a rehash without it.
  2. Entry 1: 3 points Entry 7: 2 points Entry 5: 1 point There was a lot of great builds but these were the ones that most seemed to make one cohesive set.
  3. Edoras for elderly Theoden, white clad Eowyn, Hama, and a cheaper Grima. Besides I think the build itself would be better than Osgiliath.
  4. This is twelfth week of Middle-Earth Madness. Osgiliath is the new champion. If you had to pick only one Dream set, which would it be? Ruins of Osgiliath OR The Golden Hall of Edoras Just like last week, these are dream sets so there is no hard or fast rule on what has to be included in either. Imagine you had a chance to greenlight just one LEGO Lord of the Rings set based on a simple description. Which one would you want? Summary from previous weeks: Week 11 - Ruins of Osgiliath defeats Minas Morgul 25 to 7 Week 10 - Minas Morgul flattens Fangorn Forest 29 to 1 Week 9 - Minas Morgul smashes the Gray Havens 30 to 5 Week 8 - Minas Morgul routes the Modor Battle Pack 25 to 16 Week 7 - Modor Battle Pack defeats Amon Hen 27 to 7 Week 6 - Modor Battle Pack defeats Lothlórien 24 to 14 Week 5 - Lothlórien defeats Prancing Pony 23 to 13 Week 4 - Lothlórien crashes Mount Doom 35 to 5 Week 3 - Mount Doom defeats the Rohan Battle Pack 14 to 11 Week 2 - Rohan Battle Pack defeats the Watcher in the Water 14 to 7 Week 1 - Rohan Battle Pack defeats The Green Dragon 23 to 4. Have a Dream Set to nominate? Do so in this thread. I still have a bunch of sets to go. [Moderators, can you convert this thread into a poll please?]
  5. Ruins of Osgiliath defeats Minas Morgul 25 to 7. The new round is about to begin. This round was extended due to poor WiFi connectivity during a business trip.
  6. Done. I picked "> 10" since I assumed you meant for it to mean less than ten. Good luck on your project for uni.
  7. No pics so far which is why there is as much interest in the game. We are trying to get an idea of what rhe minifigs look like.
  8. Cyberbrick, that would work. But I would really like a Collectible Minifigure series that was a variety of Castle, Vikings, and other historical figures. I could easily see this quality of minifigs with newly designed helmet molds. We got them for the Romans already. The structure I can MOC on my own.
  9. Most of the non licensed themes do not have really detailed minifig printing. I think that ED-209's designs are excellent. I am not sure that we really need multiple viking factions. But they would complement Castle 2013 or Kingdoms factions.
  10. I get mine in the mail every two months or so after signing up at Shop.LEGO.com. It might be a March - April but it is at home right now. It promotes the Martian Manhunter promo for this month and they have groupings where you buy an entire wave, you get double VIP points for them. Since we have confirmed the third wave of Hobbit sets later this year, I am not too concerned about them. We should still get them. However the lack of any Tolkein sets is distressing as it allows them to slip from the mind of casual fans. Granted they have a ton more Star Wars and Chima in the catalog. http://shop.lego.com/en-US/ByCatalog There is a Request a Catalog on this page. Though the one I received yesterday is not posted here yet.
  11. The latest consumer catalog arrived today and there are no Lord of the Rings or Hobbit sets listed. By contrast Arkham Asylum is listed with the Super Heroes. I am starting to worry that I wanted too long to get the Orthanc.
  12. This is eleventh week of Middle-Earth Madness. Minas Morgul strengthens it's reign, but will it last? If you had to pick only one Dream set, which would it be? Minas Morgul OR Ruins of Osgiliath Just like last week, these are dream sets so there is no hard or fast rule on what has to be included in either. 13. Minas Morgul barely missed an unanomous victory. They win 29 to 1. The new round is about to begin.
  14. I missed Vikings when it came out. The announcement of the Lord of the Rings sets brought me back. But eBay was my friend and I got 7016, 7020, and the Chess set for reasonable prices. I would love any Vikings theme to come back. It would be a great improvement over the current Castle theme. While more realistic helmets and less cartoonish prints would be preferred, I would gladly accept the classic look.
  15. Possibly so. I should have had Fanghorn and Gray Havens appear earlier as they lack the appeal to compete with army building.
  16. I really doubt that the London Toy Fair sign was giving the movie release date. However, it is possible that it was giving the UK release date for the LEGO sets. Unfortunately they got the second wave Lord of the Rings sets a couple months after the US.
  17. Minas Morgul smashes the Gray Havens 30 to 5 and the new poll has begun.
  18. This is tenth week of Middle-Earth Madness. Minas Morgul strengthens it's reign, but will it last? If you had to pick only one Dream set, which would it be? Minas Morgul OR Fangorn Forest Just like last week, these are dream sets so there is no hard or fast rule on what has to be included in either. Imagine you had a chance to greenlight just one LEGO Lord of the Rings set based on a simple description. Which one would you want? 19. Sir Blake, since there are not any Gondor sets, there are no Gondor Army Builder set. It seems clear that LEGO had planned a third wave that would likely contain Gondor. We don't know if that was delayed or scrapped altogether.
  20. Licensing restrictions would prevent battle packs similar to the recently announced Castle ones where you get the minifigures already built with hardly and construction at all. The Lion Knights get a treasure chest with treasure only. Pirates recently had one and you will find them for Police and Firefighters as well. We did get much larger battle packs with Uruk Hai Army, Orc Forge, and Mirkwood Elf Army. However, when posters complain about the lack of battle packs, I think they went the $12-14 sets such as Castle's Forest Ambush, Lone Rangers, Calvary Army Builder, or any number of Star Wars sets where you get four minifigure for that low price. With the exception of the Lone Ranger one, all the minifgures were generic. So they were cheap and easier to acquire. I would like to army build a bit more with LotR though an army in the 30s is fine by me. As a kid, I did want to army build Storm Troopers or Cobra cannon fodder but my parents did not understand. I think LEGO did a market analysis and decided against doing such a cheap battle pack. I can't guess why though. I know that they have to balance the interest of the KFOLs, army builder AFOLs, the MOCers that want a good brick selection in new colors if possible, and those fans that want to display gorgeous sets. For the most part I think LEGO did a good job of that. Still I really hope there is a third wave of LotR.
  21. Gray Havens for me. Minas Morgul just does not appeal for me. There are no unique minifigs that would have to come with Minas Morgul. I think those minifig would likely appear in other sets.
  22. Modular Western Town would never happen because it was too big as well as conflicting with a particular Lone Ranger set. Despite its beauty, it was no great loss. Even the Ghostbusters project that past lost it's wonderful fire house. I hope the designer comes up with something that could be priced for $50 or less and then resubmits. However, if the real goal is to get LEGO talking about possible Western sets, I think the CUUSOO project just by crossing the threshold did that. The LEGO Movie sets add a bit to western MOCers too. In the end, though you would need a revival of interest in the Wild West globally to really resurrect this this theme.

  24. This is a perfect fit. It is a minifig that i don't need but I am still glad that they continued that promotion. Imagine how it could expand the popularity of the sets. Imagine if LEGO did this for other licensed tie-ins such as Thor Dark World Blue-Ray with a related minifig.
  25. Also the two battle packs have unique figures as how many Lion Knight kings do you need. I suppose you could have multiple Dragon wizards but I wouldn't need them. I only bought the two cheapest Castle 2013 sets myself. Sure, that dragon is neat but I hate the heraldry and simplistic good / evil theme. I hope we get a new Castle reboot or that they just bring back Kingdoms.
