  1. Very nice. It is not that I have not spent that much money on LEGO before, I bought the Orthanc this month and wanting it for so long. I just cannot justify spending it on 13 minifigures. These look so much like Game of Thrones characters that I doubt even omitting their official names will slow down the lawsuit. After all, any 12 people that have seen the show would all agree that that is what these are. They even include a George R R Martin minifig if you buy the rest of them.
  2. Hammerhand, I would prefer that as well, but LEGO always like to fit a Gimli or Legolas in a set if possible.
  3. Marvel Studios has learned there lesson with Robert Downey Jr. Don't go back into contract negotiations after putting someone in a bunch of films. Get their commitment upfront. Marvel is not bound to use Sebastian Stan for nine films, but he is committed to them if they chose to. I hear they are doing that with all their contracts anymore. Back on topic, I could not resist getting the Captain America / Red Skull set yesterday. I normally wait until Super Hero sets go on clearance. But they are selling so well in my area, I think they might sell out before that happens.
  4. They have to put that on there.
  5. I vote for Mûmakil as well. I can see some good Easterlings being included. If LEGO must, they can throw in another Legolas running up the beast. I doubt any other main character could be included.
  6. This is an excellent build, ED-209. I look forward to the Throne of Asgard.
  7. This is fifteenth week of Middle-Earth Madness. Mûmakil Stampede is the new winner, but can it continue it's reign? If you had to pick only one Dream set, which would it be? Mûmakil Stampede OR Dead Marshes Just like last week, these are dream sets so there is no hard or fast rule on what has to be included in either. Imagine you had a chance to greenlight just one LEGO Lord of the Rings set based on a simple description. Which one would you want? Summary from previous weeks: Week 14 - Mûmakil defeats Ruins of Osgiliath 12 to 8 Week 13 - Ruins of Osgiliath beats Bridge of Khazad-Dum 12 to 8 Week 12 - Ruins of Osgiliath defeats Edoras 19 to 12 Week 11 - Ruins of Osgiliath defeats Minas Morgul 25 to 7 Week 10 - Minas Morgul flattens Fangorn Forest 29 to 1 Week 9 - Minas Morgul smashes the Gray Havens 30 to 5 Week 8 - Minas Morgul routes the Modor Battle Pack 25 to 16 Week 7 - Modor Battle Pack defeats Amon Hen 27 to 7 Week 6 - Modor Battle Pack defeats Lothlórien 24 to 14 Week 5 - Lothlórien defeats Prancing Pony 23 to 13 Week 4 - Lothlórien crashes Mount Doom 35 to 5 Week 3 - Mount Doom defeats the Rohan Battle Pack 14 to 11 Week 2 - Rohan Battle Pack defeats the Watcher in the Water 14 to 7 Week 1 - Rohan Battle Pack defeats The Green Dragon 23 to 4. Have a Dream Set to nominate? Do so in this thread. I still have a few sets to go. [Moderators, can you convert this thread into a poll please?]
  8. Mûmakil defeats Ruins of Osgiliath 12 to 8. The new polls begins soon. BugBot2008, welcome. These threads are a perfect place to post MOCs of potential sets. There is no problem posting your reasoning behind your vote at all.
  9. I found at least three Lions torsos (Kingdoms style) in the Build a Minifigure station yesterday. Good find on the prices Ridge Montante. I might consider the Gatehouse at that price.
  10. Indeed. Every time someone says that a theme ends on a large set and hopes that we get Minas Tirith, my mind goes back to Orthanc as the themes finale.
  11. I love the set design. What price point are you targeting? It looks almost like a $40 US set to me. Also are you planning on doing a back view on those prints? I know the Vikings TV show is not perfectly accurate, but it is likely the best we will see in the near future. Bjorn and others carry a knife in a scabbard behind their back. I think some female warrior prints would be great too.
  12. Ah, the Black Falcon's Fortress. I had that as a kid... okay a teenager. You know the time when you first start earning money but don't have any real bills yet. I bought The Orthanc today to take advantage of the double VIP Points. I look forward to building it soon.
  13. Well said. I am holding onto fading hope for scenario three as well.
  14. This is fourteenth week of Middle-Earth Madness. Osgiliath is victorious for a third week, but can it continue it's reign? If you had to pick only one Dream set, which would it be? Ruins of Osgiliath OR Mûmakil Stampede Just like last week, these are dream sets so there is no hard or fast rule on what has to be included in either. Imagine you had a chance to greenlight just one LEGO Lord of the Rings set based on a simple description. Which one would you want? Summary from previous weeks: Week 13 - Ruins of Osgiliath beats Bridge of Khazad-Dum 12 to 8 Week 12 - Ruins of Osgiliath defeats Edoras 19 to 12 Week 11 - Ruins of Osgiliath defeats Minas Morgul 25 to 7 Week 10 - Minas Morgul flattens Fangorn Forest 29 to 1 Week 9 - Minas Morgul smashes the Gray Havens 30 to 5 Week 8 - Minas Morgul routes the Modor Battle Pack 25 to 16 Week 7 - Modor Battle Pack defeats Amon Hen 27 to 7 Week 6 - Modor Battle Pack defeats Lothlórien 24 to 14 Week 5 - Lothlórien defeats Prancing Pony 23 to 13 Week 4 - Lothlórien crashes Mount Doom 35 to 5 Week 3 - Mount Doom defeats the Rohan Battle Pack 14 to 11 Week 2 - Rohan Battle Pack defeats the Watcher in the Water 14 to 7 Week 1 - Rohan Battle Pack defeats The Green Dragon 23 to 4. 15. Ruins of Osgiliath beats Bridge of Khazad-Dum 12 to 8. The new round is about to begin.
  16. I think whomever theorized that LEGO is only doing one Marvel movie tie in a year is correct: 2012 The Avengers, 2013 Iron Man 3, 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy. LEGO can make sets that allude to the other films if they want. I doubt that the license restricts them to one a way. My guess is that the license includes the first one in the base price and additional movie tie ins are extra. Still that is just a guess. For all we know, Marvel could be telling LEGO which ones to produce.
  17. http://shop.lego.com/en-US/LEGO-Doors-Windows-6117 I know it just retired but it would meet your needs.
  18. Brickfan27, I would recommend checking out the instruction books from the different blacksmith sets over the years. I am skipping the Juniors set and the battle packs this year. I might try to get some older sets off of eBay since I like the older heraldry better.
  19. I get all the vehilce hate in the Superhero line. I don't buy these sets for the builds. After coming back from my dark ages, my goal was to be a MOCer. So I pick Superhero sets first for the minifigs and second for the reusability of the bricks. Since I don't MOC vehicles, those are largely wasted bricks. The Spidertrike is especially appalling since it does not fit any character. As many have said the armored car robbery set shows that LEGO can put vehicles in these sets without them going to either the hero or villian. The Metropolis Showndown is even at the same price point and the set is much better. My two favorite Superheros sets were buildings. The Daily Bugle made an incredible parts pack and was the nucellus of my downtown bikeshop MOC. Iron Man 3's Malibu Mansion Attack is a great representation of the home at that price point. I like it so much that I have let to cannibalize it for bricks.
  20. I think LEGO would need a new license in order to do it. But if they combined The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings they could have army builder characters and alternate prints of main characters to build a wave out of. Of course the different promos seems to give us all the options for Bilbo already. Good examples would be Merry in a Gondor tabard. It is a good print but one that is not likely to show up in a LotR set (if there ever are new ones) and Hama (Theoden's doorward).
  21. I think that the SDCC stuff should be a preview of an upcoming minifig in SDCC exclusive packaging. The Hobbit's Azog was that way and I think it worked pretty well.
  22. One Walmart near my work just got a new box of these. I picked out another panda for my niece.
  23. This is twelfth week of Middle-Earth Madness. Osgiliath continues it's reign. If you had to pick only one Dream set, which would it be? Ruins of Osgiliath OR Bridge of Khazad-Dum Just like last week, these are dream sets so there is no hard or fast rule on what has to be included in either. Imagine you had a chance to greenlight just one LEGO Lord of the Rings set based on a simple description. Which one would you want? 24. Ruins of Osgiliath defeats Edoras 19 to 12. The new round is about to begin.
  25. I think LEGO feels burned by Iron Man 3. We know that they have designed Batman V Superman sets but those were pushed back a year with the movie. I hope we at least get Avengers 2 sets. While I enjoyed Iron Man 2 and Thor 2, they and presumably Winter Soldier only spark interest for a very short amount of time. Cartoons however do so for months or years. I agree that the quality of most of these cartoons are not as good*, they have a more consistent media presence than the movies and a larger audience than people who read the actual comic books. I am a huge fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and would buy most any sets based on that. The only one I am missing is the Hulk Helicarrier Escape which was too rich for me for the bricks included. I am very glad the X-Men is not based on the movies. I prefer the comic style outfits. I don't know which cartoon if any they are based on. --- * The only superhero cartoon I have seen since the 1990's X-Men / Batman: The Animated Series was Wolverine and the X-Men. I thought WatXM was high quality and much better plotted out then the other ones I saw. I have not seen any of the others as they do not appear to be suited to me. B-Lister: full episodes of Wolverine and the X-Men are also on Youtube. I watched it there. There was only one episode that was incomplete.
