LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
Blakstone replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I agree with you Walter. After I read your comment, I compared that hat with the Dino Hunter's bow and sleeves. She appears to have dark brown so his hat is probably just the reddish brown that is so common in LEGO. However, since I missed the musketeer, that will be my first opportunity to get that hat in any color. I hope to get multiples of him.- 1,109 replies

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Blakstone replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
That would be a great next modular and they could leave it as a subtle tie-in The LEGO Movie. -
Would you like the Vikings theme to return?
Blakstone replied to Alfadas's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
ED-209, projects that are under review often have many sets in them. But as they approached the 10,000 supports, the LEGO Bird Project, for example, picked three to showcase out of twenty eight. Even Approved projects such as the Research Institute (formerly Female Minifig Project) has many vignettes. I think you could generate a lot of excitement by starting your project with a wide variety of Viking themed builds. Then you can whittle down to the actual one to use. I see that many use their Ideas supporters to help with that project. If I had to pick, I think your fishing boat and cove would make best stand alone set. Boats are strongly affiliated with Vikings. I like the fortified build you are currently working on, but I think it would need to be in a larger wave to immediately read as Viking. -
Why is the Series 1 Zombie so expensive?
Blakstone replied to Transparency for Effect's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The CMF minifigures are weird. The Series 1 zombie is treated like an exclusive that can never be reused again. However, when they came out with a Halloween minifigure set, they reissued him in a brown suit. They reused the print in a different color to protect the exclusiveness of the minifigure. However, LEGO does not do that with all of these. Last week I bought the calendar which came with Series 1 Cheerleader and Skater. There were no changes. Last summer, there was a beach Minifigure blister pack with the hulu girl and the two surfers without any changes to them either. Is LEGO reprinting those minifigures or are they just using unsold product? We find many leftover pieces from CMF as well as Castle and Monster Fighters in the Build a Minifig stations in the LEGO Store. Personal, I would like LEGO to come out with a CMF Greatest Hits series (maybe Series 15) where they could reissue the most popular minifigs from the past. I just don't know what collectors would think of that. It has the potential of devasting collector value. But I don't collect LEGO thinking of resale value.- 43 replies

These are all great builds. While I liked the initial layout, the vet looked out of place next to the next building as it's roof looked like it needed to roof of the same height to meet. It did not have the same issue in the second layout. These strike me as the building you might see along a boardwalk. Excellent work.

Would you like the Vikings theme to return?
Blakstone replied to Alfadas's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I would rather have a mold than a brick built deer. The polar bear mold was the same as the grizzly bear from the Forest sets a couple of years back. Still I think ED-209 should go for an IDEAS entry. Many set ideas can go into the entry to gather the interest of folks but in the end, he would have to select one set for approx $50 or less to be reviewed. An IDEAS set could have several new Vikings minifig prints but they would not make new molds for helmet, deer / elk, or anything else. If you do submit an entry, I would volunteer to help promote it. I think submissions hit 10,000 a lot quicker if they can draw non LEGO fans into the system. We may be able to tap into fans of the Vikings TV show as well as other history fans. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Blakstone replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I just got the Grand Emporium on Friday as that catalog also motivated me. It is my second modular after the Fire Brigade. While I would like the Haunted House, I just don't know if I got the time or money to get it before it is gone. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
Blakstone replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I got my beta test email today. I will try it tonight. If the jester looks like the pic in this thread and I think that is very likely, I will skip him. But there still are some winners already revealed and I am looking forward to seeing the rest.- 1,109 replies

The Mods decided to put Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit in Historical so the forum would continue to be lively. If you recall, Castle took a nap when the LotR sets first came out. Castle is also missing from the Summer 2014 catalog (only the Juniors Castle see is there). If the Mods decide that LotR / Hobbit belong Licensed, they will move it. Back on topic, LEGO designs many sets. Not all of them every make it into Production. But they must have been very proud to display them here. I think it is safe to say that LEGO planned on more sets. We just don't know if sells or a shifting movie schedule scuttled those plans.

It also compares unlike things: who works in high tech / science fields vs who attends university. Both are real issues but I am not sure that they are linked, I still find the controversy over equal rights for women (or any group) bizarre. How many sets either lack women or have them need rescuing vs ONE set that has three highly intelligent women working in science.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

If that means a tip of the cap to the classic Sherlock Holmes or a hard boiled detective, that will be very welcome. Otherwise, I have no clue what it would mean. -
Smaug would be in the third wave. We surely are going to get that wave. But how long it is available in stores may be very limited. I don't have a frame of reference on production runs except for IDEAS / CUUSO where they run about 10,000 to 20,000 sets. As those sell, they decide whether to make another batch or not. What I mean is say that LEGO made 500,000 copies of Laketown Chase (this is a complete guess). Perhaps they will make 300,000 of the next Laketown set. We still get it, but there is less product overall as they don't think it will sell very well. LEGO could still decide to do another production run if they are surprised with the sales though.

I think they were planning three waves of Lord of the Rings. Probably one before the first Hobbit wave, one between to the two Hobbit waves, and one after the final Hobbit wave. Lord of the Rings was a very popular item for AFOLs to MOC ever since that trilogy came out. It would seem to be the perfect franchise to carry for a slightly target audience. LEGO does not release their sales figures. They firm indication would be if they say a line performs above expectations in their yearly shareholders' report. However, neither the Lord of the Rings nor the Hobbit were ever mentioned that way. I think if LEGO only planned on two waves of LotR, we would have received Gondor in the second wave.
-
Robert, no one expected Wave 3 to be in the catalog. We are discussing that Wave 2 is missing. It is only 6 months old and other sets that came out at the same time are still be offered.
-
The consumer Summer 2014 catalog arrived this week and there was no Hobbit, LotR, or even any Castle sets (except the Juniors one). It might mean that LEGO has deminished expectations for the Hobbit. But I am sure that we will still get the final wave. I wouldn't want to dawdle though. LEGO might not make huge production runs for this wave.

My hope is that the Comic Con superhero promo has exclusive packaging but is a preview minifig like Azog last year. As long as we know that they will be in general distribution later, we could get a Beast and Winter Soldier for Marvel and a Deathlock and John Stewart Green Lantern for DC without a lot of fuss.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
Blakstone replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I think we will get a new pizza print as well as a 2x2 tile print as well. I suspect that LEGO will use the upgraded pizza tile in future sets. The CMF line seems to be a great way to pay for new molds which makes it into other themes. The Santa Claus minifig print is now the standard in the City advent calendar. There might be other examples that I am unaware of. If I really like the pizza delivery guy, I will have to get a moped to drive near my modular collection. If I don't, I get to save $4 or buy another Hun warrior. Either way is a win for me.- 1,109 replies

David, that is true, except this is just one limited time set. Most CUUSOO sets have very small print runs. Back to the Future and the first Minecraft sets appear to be the exception. This IDEAS set may well have a similar print run to the Mars rover. A lot of what LEGO tries to do is broaden their market. If AFOLs only bought this set as gifts to every young daughter, niece, and granddaughter, not only would they sell a lot of these sets, but they would get a lot of new customers that might augment them with City or Creator sets. Like many of you, I spend a fair amount of time in the LEGO aisle and I hear a lot of conversations between kids and parents. The notion the non Friends sets are meant for boys sometimes comes from their parents. Research Institiute can show parents and young girls that non Friends sets are meant for them.

Another gage of how well received the Hobbit is compared to The Lord of the Rings is merchandizing. Most of it dried up shortly after the first film. These films have their fans, and I am glad you enjoy them, but they are not the cultural phenomenon the LotR was. Still I am grateful since we would had never got LEGO LotR without LEGO Hobbit.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
Blakstone replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Emilstorm, Series 1 had Tribal Hunter and Cowboy, Series 3 had Tribal Chief, and Series 6 had the Bandit. The Cowgirl in Series 8 feels out of place to me... like Marty McFly's wardrobe in BTTF part 3. I would even place the Tomahawk Warrior in Series 10 before the Western period. But I might be too tainted by Hollywood's portrayal. If I ever do a Western MOC, I would change Wiley Fusebot into a regular trapper. So he might count but neither the Wild West Wildstyle nor Calamity Drone would pass for me.- 1,109 replies

I think gender equality as an important goal. I think the biggest issue is the terms in the decision. For a lot of people, they think that feminist means female dominated. It really means gender equality. I think we need a better word for it. So LEGO coming out with this set that has three female minifigures does not really change the over gender balance for City. It does seem to be a perfect launching point to get more females into regular system sets instead of staying in the Friends zone.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
Blakstone replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I have no issues with them sticking the prospector in Series 12 and the LEGO Movie. Western is not a core interest of mine but that theme has their own fans and can always use another minifig. I think that the other themes are being well served in this series.- 1,109 replies

I can see these as a series of polybags... the equivalent of a LEGO Friends polybag. However, I just don't see how it will work as a one off item. Will it just be the paleontologist? If so, the price would have to be way smaller. Either way, congrats to the winner. I look forward to seeing what the final model looks like. If it has awesome printing on the minifigure, I will pick it up. EDIT: Thanks for the details. Research Institute sounds better and by working several of the vignettes together it places it in the same category as the other IDEAS / CUUSOO projects. Still whether I buy this set for myself really depends on the minifig prints. I might get it as a Christmas present for a niece though. I have one that I start on Friends but also gave her the Scientist and showed her that the hair is interchangeable.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Blakstone replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
The Summer 2014 catalog which arrived today is missing the Grand Emporium. It appears that will be the next set to retire.
