The sun went away so they are not as clear as the pictures I took earlier. ...and I forgot to put the diffuser on. -
[WIP] Rebrick Porsche
JamesJT replied to JamesJT's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's a full electric car positioned under the boxster. It's MY ultimate Porsche so it has to be affordable! I took bits from all my favorite Porsches and 914 is probably top of my list. Too Subaru or should I buy 2 more gold wheels? -

LiPo still not here so I started on the interior. I did some scaling to see how big the real car would be; Wheels base 2700mm Track 1575mm Height 1530mm Length 4550mm Seats 810mm wide All good except that means the wheels rims are 26"; this is a concept car so I think its not so bad. -

I still have the dashboard, door mechanism and some structural work to do but I've got everything onboard and I managed to keep the 3 seat configuration. LiPo's ordered. -
[MOC] 1963 Corvette C2 Stingray
JamesJT replied to JamesJT's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It is on Lego Ideas already. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/145992 I know it wouldn't get made as its too big (and technic). I made a 55 minute video as I took this all apart hoping to run it backwards and make a how to video. I can't make the video go backwards and its way too long to put on youtube. I could put it on a DVD If anybody want the footage.- 63 replies

[WIP] Rebrick Porsche

I know, but I have so many of these panels now, I have to keep using them. The body does survive frontal impact well! I like both your ideas. The space in front of the rear axel is for the back seats. 2xL motor would fit and there may be room under them for the extra battery box. I keep looking at LiPo but the price puts me off, maybe I should just go for it if they are really that much better. -

I added most of the body and with just 2 M motors for drive it is still too fast for my kitchen (or may be I can't drive) It does slow down when steering so I will have to add an extra battery box. I like the way I can rev the motors before dumping the clutch. -
[PORSCHE] Porsche 919 Hybrid
JamesJT replied to steph77's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Great little car, I can imagine lego producing something very much like this as an official set. Its also nice to see somebody else using the blue 18944 and 24116 panels. -
I think I prefered April I'd like to see what happens at the end, when the immovable object almost meets the irresistable force (or was there only one car and some editing involved?)

The new chassis is almost done. The only difference between the front and back will be the steering ratio. -

^Yes, I want a car that I can 4 wheel drift round any corner. I expect 165 section tyres would be quite cheap to replace. -
[MOC] Lancia Stratos 1:8 Scale
JamesJT replied to JamesJT's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
An Ideas Project has to be "only your own original work". He claims on Facebook that he copied my doors but the rest his his. I sent an email to lego ideas but they have not replied yet. I don't think its that bad either but then I did design all the best bits. The problem is that he is showing his model on Facebook and Lego Ideas (note he hasn't put it on eurobricks!) and claiming it is all his own work. -
I think that's brilliant. I'm amazed you found the space for those lights in such a small model.

I can see a lots of my stuff in there but there's also lots of ugly lumpy stuff in there that isn't mine. Reminds me of one of those Chinese clone cars from a few years ago. Paul Borakto told me that It is here too, its a closed group that I'm not in (yet). https://www.facebook.com/groups/LEGO.Technic/permalink/1189926514412713/?comment_id=1192809020791129&ref=notif¬if_t=group_comment_reply¬if_id=1466407551516315 -

Thank you all for your kind comments. I keep swapping between coupe and convertible, it only takes 2 minutes. Convertible is more fun because you can flip the roof up and down while working. I couldn't have done this without the new panels. They have only 2 mounting point each but are very thin. While I was building this it felt like there was no problem that couldn't be solved by adding one of these new panels. They only come in blue, at least as a pair. I was inspired to add as much details as possible by Nick Barretts Mustang. http://www.eurobrick...0245&hl=mustang I hope to have the "how to build" video on youtube in the next few days. Most of the parts are will be available from Lego soon (so no more 42045 need to die) and I think the only expensive parts are the 7x red #3 connectors in the coupe's doors/interior and 2x white #4 in the convertible's roof. The roof can be made in black and the interior could be black, white or blue instead of red. Should I put this on Lego Ideas? I know technic doesn't do well on Ideas.- 63 replies

Here is my 1963 Corvette coupe and convertible. Features: Opening doors and hood Mini V8 engine Pop-up (revolving) headlights Double wishbone semi-independent suspension (from 8081) on the front and semi independent trailing arms with a floating diff' on the rear HOG steering (from 3 different places, depending on which version is built) Folding roof on the convertible. 15x 18944 and 20x 24116 blue curved panels from 42045. I like this one best; top down and bumpers off. Many more pictures on Flickr James Tillson I won't be making a LDD file for this but I will be adding a "how to make" video on Youtube soon. NOTES 1963 Corvette only has one door mirror and the aerial is always up in photos. The original design for the Stingray was the (Bill) Mitchell Corvette from 1958!

[WIP] 1963 Corvette
JamesJT replied to JamesJT's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you. I am also pleased and surprised at how this turned out. The coupe and convertible are both finished but I still need one more blue 18944 panel (and a sunny day) before I can take some pictures. I'm not going to do an RC Grand Sport as I am itching to take this all apart and start something else. I'm not going to make a LDD of this but I will take a video as I take it apart. I can upload it playing backwards like František Hajdekr does on his excellent youtube channel. -

Yes, except they rotate rather than popping up. See flickr video. Manual roof is pretty quick to open. 1963 Corvette M6 by James Tillson, on Flickr I use photoshop CS2 (it was free!) I find blueprints on the internet and change the image size so that I can just put a box around something and the info tab will tell me (in units of studs) the size and relative position. For example, these wheels are 8 studs arcross. Scalling demo by James Tillson, on Flickr I can also take a picture (from as far away as possible to limit perspective effects) and use photoshop to overlay the picture on the blueprint. corvette scale 8 by James Tillson, on Flickr Corvette and 250GTO are so similar that I'm wondering if I should convert to [WIP] Ferrari GTO... Corvette in black, Ferrari in white. I'm not sure which came first. corvette GTO overlay by James Tillson, on Flickr -

Thank you. I couldn't have done it without the new panels from 42045. It uses 15x 18944 and 20x 24116. Good job these will be available from S@H soon. I'm sure we can all do alot more with these panels; I only have to change the connectors that hold the wings in place from #4 to #3 and it looks like a Corvette C3. I can also see a VW Beetle, 2CV, DS, Alpine A110, classic 911 and many more. With just a few tweeks to the model I have now it could look like this: 250GTO by James Tillson, on Flickr I photoshop'd the panels from green to blue. New parts can't arrive soon enough. 1963 Corvette 010 (photoshoped panels) by James Tillson, on Flickr
