With the introduction of 11954 in the Mobile Crane Mk2, I was under the impression that 62531 is old history. Yet, the latter shows up in the container truck 42024 from 2014 1H. Will the two parts co-exist together for some time then? Or possibly TLG is liquidating some old stock of 62531 and the two will be 'counter-parts' for some time?

Somehow I think there are many more threads/builds with [TRIPLE] than there are entries in the official/pinned thread. May very well be that some contestants did not 'realize' that their own thread is not sufficient, and they MUST create an entry in the official/pinned thread .... Correct?

Few weeks back, I got both the EV3 Retail Version + the EV3 EDU Expansion + Gyro Sensor. All along, I was hoping to build a self-balancing robot, supposedly similar to that on the EV3 CD. Well, this turned out to be a more difficult exercise than I had anticipated. After reviewing my Modern Control notes from years ago, and concepts of full-state feedback and non-minimum phase systems, I was able to figure-out an algorithm (block diagram with state variables) for the self-balancing robot. Translating his into EV3 language proved however to be more challenging. In any event, the project sat for few weeks and then, recently I stumbled upon an alternative (link below). I did try it and it does work. Somehow whether the robot is on a soft carpet or hard floor makes a difference (and it should, based on the dynamics). The author has gone to great lengths to develop the code and allow for some interesting 'tweaks' (e.g. feedback gains). http://forums.usfirs...y-Program/page3 Question: Those who have the official EV3 EDU CD, can you comment on the alternative above and what it does better (or not as good as) the EDU version?

I asked again at a different TRU store, spoke to the manager, and essentially his answer is that such displays 'belong' to the Lego rep, He brings them in, he takes them out. TRU got nothing to do with this .... Proper question then would be .. what would it take to become a lego rep ... ?

"Gaps" in Parts ... I wish I had
DrJB replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
My recollection for the differentials is as follows: 1. The Old 4L wide was useful in studded builds where the width of the car was an even number (xL). 2. For the new liftarm-based cars, where the width tends to be more an 'odd' number, the NEW 3L differential is more appropriate. -
Thank You, I'm the one who started a thread asking if such an app was available, no one had an answer though. Will definitely try it out once available. Cheers.

I took advantage of the long weekend here in the US to sort the mess my kids created ... by mixing NXT/EV3 and all other lego(s). Then, while going through my gears assortment, had a couple of thoughts: The current gears come in: 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 36, 40 teeth. Bold have the DB (double-bevel) profile What is missing from this sequence are of course gears with 28 and 32 teeth. We kind of have the 28 teeth already (mini turntable) but it does not go on an axle. Hence the title of this thread ... 'Gaps' 1. If made available, would such gears be really useful, have you ever needed gears with 28/32 teeth? 2. Would such gears exist (prototypes) but were never officially released? 3. Why TLG has yet to upgrade all gears to DB? Those would use more plastic an thus cost more? 4. Any other GAPS you can think of, as in Liftarms lengths or connectors angles? (I've seen some digital models of 'interesting' connectors). Of course, the idea here is of parts that would 'increase' the building possibilities, not just a mere combination of anything possible.

EV3 Expansion Set
DrJB replied to x1050us's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Fully agree with Jim/Ted ... I've had the expansion set for a while, and while it has many nice parts, I realized earlier on I needed to get the small turntables + ball caster. Got few from eBay and now can build the EDU projects. -

So what you're saying is .. If you're Married with Kids, you can't take Lego to work ??? But seriously though, I was NOT necessarily talking about the OP ... but more about the bachelors on here who are interested in Becca ... I too my friend, I'm off the market ... happily -

Looks like I was editing my post based on wiki info while you added your comment. Yes, that is exactly the DS I'm thinking of. They were very common in my very young age and were a 'symbol' status ... Have not seen one in ages. In any event, let's get back to Becca ... few years in the future ... Q. You two make a lovely couple, how did you meet ? A. You won't believe this but ... Lego has been good to me ... -

Not to go off-topic but ... Your icon/avatar appears to be that of a Citroën DS, an old/iconic French car often used in Presidential Motorcades. That car had a hydrostatic suspension (40+ years ago!!!) and you could drive it on 3 wheels only. Most Americans know about this car as it was once featured on the TV Series "Starsky & Hutch " ... Has anyone MOCed that DS? -

Just a though that comes to mind... Do you guys know how TLG workers know that the contents of a bag are correct? they use high precision scales! So, so far we have three sorting attributes: length, color, and possibly weight. Given the friction in lego parts, I bet we'll never have anything reliable based on weight. That said, there are also that lego set of sieves, to presort large from medium from small parts. One can devise a sieve system that for example could separate the bushings from the pins ... Ultimately, there has to be some manual (human) based either pre- or post- sorting. Akiyuki has a machine that does some pattern recognition and even sorts lift arms from connectors ... It is based on an NXT and a webcam ... If my recollection is right. But it's extremely slow ...and I can do a much faster job than it ..

CanAm SPyder .. Very Nice MOC
DrJB replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks. I started an LXF but it's rather 'painful' as some parts are old/non-existant ans some builds are not too conventional (bent/stressed parts).
