  1. Show them the two Lego milling machines made by Arthur Sacek ... you'll find them on youtube.
  2. Check philo's homepage, he won a bridge design contest some time back. www.philohome.com .
  3. Nico, I made an LXF of the 2CV chassis. Un MOC superbe that you've built. Hope you do not mind. http://www.eurobrick...pic=89140&st=25 http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=537067
  4. Well, if you keep in consideration that 37% of men (not women) have some sort of color blindness ... that may explain your mis0haps. That iw hy they say women are better than men at picking colors. What I mean by color blindness are things like: purple vs. blue, shades of grey vs. pink, aqua vs light blue ... etc. It is true, look it up.
  5. very neat ... again, contact mechanics can be full of surprises.
  6. I think only RCX 1.5 came with the jack plug-in. You can get one fairly cheap on eBay for maybe $15-20. Make sure it has no battery leak/damage.
  7. That and ... the angle and diameter are tightly related. If you want two gears to mesh, they need to have the same angle, and that leads to diameters that most of the time are not exact multiples of the basic module spacing L/M.
  8. The module at 1:06 is definitely new ... fascinating what this 'kid' can do!
  9. Glad others were able to reproduce it .... as I initially though it was my computer only, but I did try it from 4 computers: 2 at home (Chrome+Exporer) + iPad + 1 at work, and all show the same behavior. WhiIe I agree that 22/23 are very good entries, it seemed a bit 'odd' that the two best entries lie next to each other. Odd but not impossible. In any event, voters will just have to be careful.
  10. I noticed they added the CLUTCH gear this time, I do not recall it being available in the previous version. And the small trechnic track ... it was already there in the previous version.
  11. I did tally up the 20 or so initial votes, and it seems 22/23 are leading, which suggests many people are mistakenly voting for one ipo the other. Not wanting to create 'issues' here but, in all fairness this needs to be looked at. The main root-cause again is because some of the pics are not showing.
  12. Well, it is an adaptation, but nothing near the actual landmaster ... in terms of proportions and looks. I was able to build smaller tristar wheels (with the Y liftarms from gigamesh) and those could be incorporated into a landmaster.
  13. The young MOCers may not have seen the movie (Damnation Alley) ... but it's an iconic amphibious vehicle (LandMaster) that uses TriStar wheels http://upload.wikime.../Landmaster.jpg http://www.flickr.com/photos/r_jackson/2920114479/sizes/o/in/photostream/
  14. Here is a thought. In the US, boxes were sold with that paper notice. In EU, it appears you can't buy EDU until the battery issue is fixed. Since US/EU have different 'accounting' (book/keepers), it is understandable that the EU division does not want to cover US expenses ... Ultimately they are the same company, but global companies are not really 'global'. What if you tried to contact the US EDU office and see what they come up with? The fact of the matter is that you ended up with a US version and they 'should' be able to help you. Let us know what you find out. You have to be patient though as, I ordered the EV3 battery over 2 months ago, and still have not received it as they must have a huge backlog. This, at least is what the customer rep told me when I called few days ago. Good Luck.
  15. The license plate says Dubai ... I'm guessing the tandem rear axle will provide high acceleration at start-up, enough for the vehicle to go airborne (?)
  16. You can still vote (there is a separate thread for voting) ... but however you can no longer submit entries (take part) in the competition.
  17. Rather interesting ... I thought strawberry farming cannot be mechanized and is often done by low-cost migrant workers (there was a high-profile story about this topic in recent news in Greece, and migrants from Bangladesh) . In any event, would be curious to see what you come up with. Not just in Norway ... 8275's prices have sky-rocketed in recent weeks ... Hopefully things will calm down after the holidays.
  18. For all we know the tracks could be sloped downhill ...
  19. I just noticed that the links to some photos do not always work, and sometimes this may cause voters to pick the wrong entry, especially entries 22/23.
  20. Seems to me some 'entrepreneur' is buying sets in the US and reselling them in Europe ... for whatever justifiable reason. Still, I think TLG should honor such requests. To my knowledge, nothing on the box says that contents are to be sold/used only in North America ... One could very well buy them in one country and use them in another. But if it's an entrepreneur ... some import/customs laws must have been 'loop-holed ... In any event, I am sure ultimately TLG will honor your request, I have had only positive experience dealing with the EDU division... at least here in the USA
  21. Spent some 'serious' time making an LXF of the French Citroen 2CV, based on Nico71's photo instructions. This is the Chassis only, the body (+ seats) is another endeavor in itself. The small parts to the side, I could not place because of LDD's strict 'alignment' limitations. Happy Moc-ing http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=537067 PS. My effort here is just a 'tribute' to such iconic car and Nico's talent. I understand the car was disassembled, so let this LXF capture it for a long time ...
  22. It kind of takes away from the 'team spirit'. For sure the designer has contributd his share, but what about the people who designed all the fancy parts he's using. How about the person who did the art-work for the box (e.g. 41999) ... sure do not want to alienate (i.e. not give credit to) all the supporting staff. I say absolutely NO.
  23. From what I recall from my tribology class, one of the wear mechanisms is when small particles detach from the two surfaces and get stuck in between. They typically provide some 'rolling film' and the original surfaces do not touch anymore. If the particles are rough, they act like grains of sand and eat-up the two surfaces. With time, some of those particles fuse with either surface ... So, there is a continuous process of particles detach (get created), rub, stick, ... and so on. The pic you showed suggests some small metal particles have encrusted the plastic differential. I bet some plastic particles would have filled small asperities in the metal shim as well. To quote my former advisor: Tribology (unlike dynamics) is ... difficult to both conceive/theorize/explain, and thus, often full of surprises.
  24. I have another hobby where I 'care' for a saltwater fish tank. Some people are very much into this and collect the rarest (most expensive) corals. To offset some of the costs, some reef-hobyists have invested in setups to grow/propagate then sell their own corals. When it comes to Lego, some 'invest' in rare sets to precisely offset their addiction, while others are in it for the pure thrill of resale/profit ... Nothing wrong with either but lately, and with the 41999, this has resulted in many speculators at one end and unhappy fans at the other. Some now even talk about 'investing' in Lego ... and seeing the lisiting on eBay for 41999, this appears 'real', for many other sets as well. What's your take on this? Again, the idea is not to alienate/divide, but rather just to share a multitude of opinions. BTW, unlike corals, one cannot setup a propagation/growth tank for Lego(s) ...
