I think people are refering to the 'bulge' at the far end of the deeping wall. The wall should be flat on the far side of the culvert. Its easy enough to modify the uruk hai army wall to flatten it.

Cool battle scenes. Particularly like the shot looking down the deeping wall.

Press Release 10237 - Tower of Orthanc
Eurolock replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Your back wall is coming along very nicely. Fantastic banners too. Incidentally, having looked closely at the rear view of Orthanc, I think that it will be possible to substitute some of the new arch pieces that are used internally with other pieces. This would free up some of the new arches to use on the back wall. -
I've commented on this before on Flickr. Frankly the scale is utterly mind-boggling. How on earth did you manage to accumulate all those light bluish gray tiles? Particularly the 2x4s? You are going to need a staggering number of Uruks to go along with this. Still, some people have amassed a suitable sized army.... http://mocpages.com/moc.php/359665

Press Release 10237 - Tower of Orthanc
Eurolock replied to Bonaparte's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Not getting the full tower is a major disappointment at this price point. Modifying the set to complete the tower will require a very extensive rebuild and will not simply be a case of attaching a few hinges since the missing part is less than half the tower i can see those new arches in black commanding a high price on Bricklink. -
Bricklink is your best bet. Lego store pick-a-brick walls can also be very cost effective...particularly for small parts...
-
This is fantastic. Your 'usual' water technique just seem to work particularly well here....and there is something about the balance of the overall 'composition' that makes this 'stand out'.
-
Excuse me while I pick my jaw off the floor.........this looks fantastic. Frankly I'm amazed how accurately you have been able to recreate my version...and improve certain parts (I like your mountain better than mine). What really made me smile is where you have replicated a few 'mistakes' that I made (middle windows in the wall at the front of the cloister area aren't spaced correctly....and there is a dbg wedge plate on the floor under the 'bridge' at the top of the spiral ramp that I only used because I ran out of LBG and was too impatient to wait for my bricklink order to arrive. Where has Helm Hammerhand gone?
-
Fantastic build. This has genuinely given me the urge to play halo4 again.....love using the magnum to headshot grunts.

Hi Deathleech, I had planned a range of minor changes - nothing dramatic and have bought the requisite parts from bricklink. But I'm currently in the early stages of building a weathertop Moc so am devoting my time to that at the moment.
-
I'm still here... Helm Hammerhand was cobbled together with bits I happened to have - so not necessarily optimal..the beard is just a standard 6132 light bluish gray beard (I think gandalf's would be better). The torso is a collectible mini-figure series 6 classic alien ( musculature is hidden by the beard thankfully) - a plain lbg torso would be better. A second helm's deep set used but i also had to bricklink lots of extra slopes, plates etc. Luckily i have 2 lego stores nearby and was able to get multiple pick a brick cups of lbg and dbg bricks (1x2, 1x3, 1x4) which helped. No master parts list or instructions i'm afraid. Send me a pm if you need any help. Good luck with the build!

Interesting.....the question is would my kids notice if I gave their celtic warrior a hair-cut?
-
Looks great. Very atmospheric......I am puzzled how Shelob has managed to catch a roast chicken though....
-
I thought based on images i checked that the outfits were red and gold. Agree that the red cape isn't accurate though...i was more focussed on getting a rough approximation of the helmet... Normally i wouldn't even consider chopping up Lego but I made an exception in this case since I've all but given up hope of an official version of an elven archer.....and it looks strange with Haldir at Helm's deep on his own.
-
Had a spare Haldir that I wanted to use as an Elven archer. Helmet was made by cutting the horns of a Loki helmet and re-attaching the tip of one horn to the front of the helmet. I think it looks pretty good. Need to tidy it up a bit though. Ideally the hair should hang out the back but there is no way i'm chopping up an elven hairpiece. image by Eurolock, on Flickr image by Eurolock, on Flickr

I really like how micro-Saruman appears to be leaning over the balcony looking down. Amazing what you can do with a tooth.

Interesting to see what it looks like without the sand green. I like it. Higher walls look good too.
-
Very, very cool. How many orc forge sets were sacrificed to build this? If/when Orthanc is released you have amazing base ready made for it!

Thats a lot of blood in the water......

Thanks for remembering this! [For those that are interested in 'modding' the official set it is well worth looking at =DoNe= 's version too. This has inspired me to raised the height of the wall on my version and tone down the sand green. The 1x1 lbg plates improve the look of the battlements too...and there is some slick rockwork. http://www.flickr.com/photos/-done-/8438787778/in/photostream/] Back on topic - Your version looks great Cyclops ;-) Really interesting to see the effect of expanding the width of the outer walls. The added height to the walls also makes the 'drop down' to the deeping wall look much much better. This is something that I have decided to fix now (especially after looking at your version) In terms of other ideas/comments... If your aiming for 'accuracy' there are a few simple things that you could consider changing. 1) the culvert in the deeping wall should be about equidistant between the deeping wall turret and the rock wall on the left hand side. 2) the 'edge' of the tower (the part made of ridge tiles) that points forward should be in line with the outer wall of the keep. (I do like the way you have added a distinct lower third tier to the outside tower edge though..that looks great!). 3) there are too few 'windows' above the arches in the cloister wall. This can easily be altered by using the same panels that are used to make the openings in the outer wall. 4) There shouldn't really be a external stairway leading up from the deeping wall all the way to the top the top of the outer wall. i can understand why you have this though and it looks very neat in your MOC. 5) The door leading from the deeping wall into the outer wall should have a rounded top rather than the square top. I will try to post a picture of my solution to the inner ramp problem...just in case you are interested in exploring alternatives.

I had to look hard but i managed to find an exposed stud!

Absolutely brilliant. The fords of bruinen and the dead marshes are beautifully executed. Stylish bases too.

I'm not so sure. I think Rhosgobel with a couple of spiders attacking would have made for a visually more interesting $50 set than Attack of the Wargs tbh. Take out the rather uninteresting tree and make both wargs gray and you could have converted Attack of the wargs to an 'Escape to Rivendell' for about $30.

I like the 'wood' variety on the bridge.
