  1. Looks like an official set. Very cool without being very big.
  2. Amazing work. The positioning of the arm (slight flex at the elbow and tilt of the wrist) looks very natural. The sculpting of the armour and helmet are fantastic. Be great to see something else in the picture to get a better idea of scale.....
  3. The tree technique is definitely a winner. Looks much more 'realistic' that just using the normal leaf pieces.
  4. Wow. This is truly stunning - both in scale and detail. Wasn't expecting the interior...but that was even more impressive! Picking out individual parts to comment upon is difficult because there is just SO much to take in..... the giant statues (particularly the beards!) and the abandoned mine carts were definitely amongst my favourite parts though...
  5. This is indeed very impressive...the overall composition is great and there are so many details to admire. The damage to the castle walls is particularly well implemented.
  6. Simply beautiful. The colours are amazing.
  7. Excellent build...of a very difficult structure. Loads of creative ideas. Wish the photographs were better so I could study it in more detail! Did you check out skywalter's epic (even larger) version on Flickr? Might be some ideas you could borrow for finishing it.
  8. Spectacular as always. The angles on the cottage are incredible (I'd love to know how that is achieved while maintained structural stability). I did see this on Flickr before but I didn't spot the ghoul shape until you mentioned it. The colour palette for the ground work is so unique and works really well too.
  9. Its a fantastic diorama. I'm frequently tempted to remove the sand green from my version too. Just can't face the amount of work it would require.... Did you try making the rock above the keep a bit less flat? Might look better than the the flat horizontal line that you have at the moment. Oh, and I think Helm Hammerhand deserves a bigger statue!
  10. This is great. Love the feel of the ice and snow.
  11. Simply awesome. Beautiful design details everywhere.
  12. I actually found these at a Lego store PAB wall for the first time about 2 weeks ago. But yes, Bricklink is your friend for this sort of venture.
  13. Absolutely nails the ramshackle look. Texturing is fantastic.
  14. Perhaps Beorn has a gray plastic head with flesh printing on the face area. That would explain the lack of a second expression and the apparent gray areas at the edge of the face... I agree though, the evidence points to a single piece at this stage.
  15. The neck post on the minifigure body is certainly long enough to do this. Perhaps the instructions will indicate that the head is pushed into the hair piece first and then the shape of the hair-piece will prevent the head being pushed fully down. The picture on the website does however clearly look like it is a single piece. I guess we will know soon enough.
  16. Well worth looking at the more detailed pictures for this....there are loads of really great techniques and inspired parts usage.
  17. This is great....packed with so much detail. It is very reminiscent of a particular location in Skyrim......
  18. First LOTR or Hobbit set that I don't think I will buy. Not exactly an iconic location, bland design for the outpost, no armoured elves, no ears for the orcs, neck ears on Thranduil.....
  19. ....what is Azog doing at Dol Guldor? Interesting. Minifigure selection is impressive overall. Absence of Bolg is disappointing though..everything seems to point to the role and/or design of the character being changed.
  20. I think that there could be a further flashback to Dale in DOS as part of the Bard story. Might be Girion firing the Ballista. Certainly looks like the ballista is surrounded by bodies of Men of Dale and looking at the surrounding rooftops this doesn't look like a deserted city that has been ruined for decades.
  21. Great work. Very accurate to the movie set! Don't quite understand how the water is going to turn the mill though.
  22. Was admiring this again yesterday and noticed the usage of the gold ray guns.....must be a first for a LOTR MOC
  23. Awesome....genuinely stunning. The hall is beautifully executed and the rockwork is really interesting...i love the effect of the dark tan plates and the moss green pieces. You have devised some clever solutions to many of the challenges of building meduseld....the tapering front spires, the horses head motifs, the golden highlights, the roof.. Only thing i can see that you could add would be the small horses head fountain/water spout that is positioned to left of the ramp in the movie.
  24. This got me thinking....perhaps you've hit the nail on the head with this comment. Perhaps Lego had planned a 'Mirkwood elf army' set for 'film 2' back when The Battle of Five Armies was in fact in film 2...and we get in now because it still 'fits' with DOS (to an extent). In fact, if you consider the list of sets - it would fit with the idea of Lego having to reposition concepts developed for the 2-movie format to fit with the Trilogy. So, no Beorn because Lego has already covered as far as the barrel escape. Equally, you could speculate that perhaps the Smaug set/concept they had originally planned/developed doesn't fit with DOS and hence is bumped to TABA.... However, i still suspect the list is either incomplete or simply inaccurate. We have a laketown set now - which, to me, makes a 'Fire and Water' type set less likely and increases the chances that the Smaug set will be based at Erebor - and hence more suited to DOS than TABA.
  25. Front page on theonering.net (right now) is an article about new DOS information revealed by a German 'cinema' magazine. However, even this, supposedly spoiler heavy, item can only offer.... 'Whether Smaug’s fall will end part 2 however is as yet unknown.' I guess we willl have to wait and see....
