Agreed. I'm baffled. Scratch that. I found it.

Here's a new render, combining 70409 - Shipwreck Defense & 70411 - Treasure Island: Obviously, the models are the best I could do without official instructions or the right parts/colors in LDD.
-
I think it's supposed to represent a mortar and I like it.
-
Awesome! A couple of things to note: the tree is connected to the base via ball joints and there is a plate with vertical shaft at the end of the dock, for connecting with 70409: Shipwreck Defence.

So, I looked at the December 2014 Store Catalog for the U.S. and I saw the following at the bottom of the first page: Coming in January: Get brand new LEGO® sets in your favorite themes! ...and the following themes listed: LEGO Star Wars LEGO The LEGO Movie LEGO Friends LEGO Disney Princess I wonder if this mean that Pirates will be out later than January in the U.S....

In fact, I do think the ships are pretty different after building this in LDD. While there are some common build techniques for ships used between the two, there are also a lot of small and big differences. Some obvious ones include not using the stem parts for the aft of the ship, not using the stern part at the top of the bow, new parts for the masts (which I had to fake), placement of the bowsprit, and a new crow's nest. Personally, I like the newer ship's construction but am not as fond of the color choices right now. Perhaps that will change over time...

Here are a couple of new renders I have made for some new sets... The first is of 70409: Shipwreck Defense: The next is a comparison of 6243: Brickbeard's Bounty and the new 70413: The Brick Bounty: There was a lot of guess work involved with 70413 and the cabin and aft of the ship (like the rudder) are incomplete. I hope people like them. Please let me know if I shouldn't be posting these here and I'll cut it out.

Good points. That doesn't account for many new parts beyond animals. I suppose TLG is in a position now where they think their part molds are pretty well perfected. I haven't seen any finalized images for 70411: Treasure Island but just sent a message to just2good to see if he's been able to track any down. We'll see...

Agreed. It looks like a completely new piece with technic pin holes. That's nice and all, but it seems like an unnecessary new part. On that note: are there any other new pieces in the 2015 sets other than the new headscarf? I see the use of 2014 pieces, like the Plate (A) 4M 45° in 70411: Treasure Island & 70412 - Soldiers Fort and the Mini Shooter in all but the 70410: Soldiers Outpost. Otherwise, it's just existing parts with new colors - like the Profile Brick 1X2 Single Gro..

It looks as though they have a 2x4 base unlike the 2x2 bases on the existing 2x2x11 columns. If that's the case, then I think they improve in one area as the connection should be stronger and won't rely on joining to something like a Brick 4X4 Round and a Cross Axle like on the 4184: The Black Pearl, 4195: Queen Anne's Revenge, and 10210: Imperial Flagship. One thing I'm unsure of is if it's all one piece extending up to the platforms where the lattices connect. If it is, then we lose a little of the versatility of the shorter columns used on previous ships where we were able to vary the height of the masts by combining with other pieces. A prime example of this is the first mast on 4184: The Black Pearl and the middle mast of 10210: Imperial Flagship.

I wanted to play around with the LDD to POV-Ray Converter and render something quickly. This is what I've come up with after adding some more parts to the scene: I hope this helps people better understand what the new soldier sets will look like as compared to the 2009 set. FYI: The LXF file for 6242: Soldier's Fort is from from AndyC's post in the Official LEGO Sets made in LDD thread.

...and there's an additional raft and pirate with one of them. I don't count the row boat, other two pirates, or the octopus since the 2009 set had a row boat, two pirates, and an alligator/crocodile.

...and here's the mock-up with 2009's 6242: Soldiers Fort:

Nice. Which tank has Luke's clone?
-
I did a quick mock-up in LDD of 70410: Soldiers Outpost and 70412: Soldiers Fort to see what they would look like combined:

Personally, I like both. It looks like the printing position on the bridge of the nose is more accurate for the stormtroopers shipping with 75055: Imperial Star Destroyer and 75060: Slave I. But the blue air intakes on the Rebels version seem to make more sense as I think they were that way in the original movie helmets (after looking through Google images). As far as the body printing - I don't have a preference, but like that the leg printing doesn't look like it's cut off mid-print on the right leg on the Rebels version. Having said that, I just wish there was a single version. The constant changing of stormtroopers was irritating enough. But now having two versions at the same time? It's a bit annoying.

I once called TLG to see if I could order some extra sheaths - outside of a set. The person on the phone said no. Their reason was that the sheaths were a licensed part: meaning they could only be sold with POC sets.

Some thoughts as I've had time to think about these images: It's interesting to see the changes between the preliminary pictures and these final sets. I especially like the change of the lower portion of the raft in the Soldiers Outpost (70410) set. I'm so happy to see the return of the soldiers in blue - with backpacks instead of just a printing on their backs. As I already stated in an earlier post: I really would have liked to see red epaulets for the soldiers instead of white. Glad to see the return of the blue Imperial flags. I love the way the Soldiers Fort (70412) and Soldiers Outpost (70410) can be connected together. It looks like the Shipwreck Defense (70409) will be able to connect to something in a similar way - perhaps with Treasure Island (70411). I find it interesting that there is no shark in any of these sets considering we see a rat, a sawfish, fish, a crab, frogs, and an octopus... and will likely see a crocodile and parrot in Treasure Island (70411). Having said that, I will definitely be getting each of these.

White epaulettes for the soldiers? I would have preferred red, but I'll take what I can get..

This really takes me back to my LEGO airport setup as a kid. The size is incredible. One thing I'd recommend is the addition of the LL-BEL helicopter from 6392: Airport.

I have the ability to pick up a brand new 9492 Tie Fighter and was wondering if it makes sense to do so - knowing that the Tie Fighters are so well used in Star Wars Rebels... I don't want to buy it if the TLG may be coming out with a new Tie Fighter again in the near future (not including the Tie Advanced Prototype).
-
The tie-in for TLG with Star Wars Episode VII brings up something I wonder about: Over the past two years we've seen a delay for SW sets between Europe and the U.S. Let's say there are no Episode VII sets in the Summer 2015 wave but there will be one or more sets in the Winter 2015 wave to coincide with the movie's release in December 2015. If so, when will the Winter wave be released in the U.S.? I can't imagine a scenario where there weren't any Episode VII sets in stores before the movie's release.

I just wanted to let anyone in the North Austin / Round Rock, Texas, USA are know that the Round Rock Barnes and Noble has a 9492: Tie Fighter in stock. The box has minor damage, but the set is brand new for I think $55 USD.

The Carbonite block looks to be the same as the one in 9516: Jabba's Palace. Han himself also looks the same except for the face/head printing. ...and the Stormtrooper looks just like one of those in 75055: Imperial Star Destroyer.
