  1. Rotating and hinging things in a large model can be a right bugger... one solution would be to use the "multiple selction tool" to select the bricks around where your shaft is supposed to go, then use the "clone tool" to make a copy alongside the model, where you can build without invoking some of LDD's unusual behaviour. Then it's just a case of placing the completed shaft where it needs to go!
  2. As soon as you build something new, you've created a MoC, by definition. The process doesn't even require planning - a MoC can eventually "happen" by pouring all your bricks into a pile and finding interesting ways to put them together. For me, when I am doing this, I imagine the shapes that I am making to be part of a larger construction, and it certainly helps to have a good selection of shapes when experimenting. If you have a particular goal / theme for building, it will help to buy some affordable sets which fit with your ideas. I prefer to build realistic 8 stud wide vehicles, so I find that the CREATOR theme provides plenty of inspiration, AND useful parts. EDIT: WAH, I nearly forgot. LEGO Digitial Designer offers an alternative method of designing models - Eurobricks even has a friendly subforum for discussion of this and other CAD LEGO applications. There are also resources such as LDD Manager and Brickstore, to help you buy the bricks you need to make a virtual creation a reality.
  3. A couple of things I reserved months ago and finally completed, plus some things that apparently no-one else wanted to do. 4. Unfortunately, this doesn't work. The force from the red axle pushes the L-shaped beam against the two jumper plates holding the lightbrick, preventing it from swinging down to the button. Removing the plate below those 1x1 technic bricks gives the L-beam better clearance.
  5. If you don't mind changing the structure slightly, this could work: The end of the yellow part should be able to clear the edge of the lightbrick, enough to push in the button. EDIT: I also suggest swapping the black 1x2 brick in the middle for a 2x3; placed such that it is right above the yellow part. This should stop the whole axle from rotating and fudging the mechanism.
  6. ALL the Creator stuff ALL the Mixels stuff And the Friends collectables and Chima Legend Beasts for my girly colours and nifty spare parts needs. I am interested in that Simpsons house, but I will be broke from working through my wantlist.
  7. I'd like to see certain existing parts in common colours, because it seems strange that they don't already exist, and many a MOC has been thwarted all because of this. 30039 - Flat Tile 1X1 182: Transparent Bright Orange 30357 - Plate 3X3, 1/4 Circle 23: Bright Blue 106: Bright Orange 63864 - Flat Tile 1X3 140: Earth Blue Having these would be splendid.
  8. I am also interested in these! Oh, two more things to add, which are not yet on Bricklink: 14720 - Beam I -Frame 3X5 90 Degr. Hole Ø4.85 15461 - Double Snap With Hole Ø4.85
  9. I think the image you posted earlier demonstrates the idea perfectly. I remember I had trouble finding the right words to describe "blank border cropping" when I was working on script automation a while back. Oh, more stuff for everybody! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 31022 - Turbo Quad [Model A] - theme: Creator Errors / notes: No elastic band for suspension. I originally forgot to add the 2m axle and bush, which the elastic band WOULD attach to. No-one noticed this! If you downloaded this model before 2014-06-03, you may want to get it again. 11. From those part selections, it looks like 30188 and 30189 will be mini versions of 31021 and 31020 respectively. I've been impressed by the mini counterparts so far in the 3018X range, and of course, I MUST get these to put alongside them. Shame there are no quantites listed, because I'd like to try and guess at how these three things should look in LDD.
  12. The main reason I got this set was the ratched-activated propeller. 4403 Air Blazers has a really ingenious method of spinning the rotor blades by squeezing the model where the tail connects. While this worked very well in 4403, I feel that 31011's propeller assembly needs some extra weight to keep it spinning in spite of friction, although I'm at a loss to think how that could be achieved without making the prop blades too big. It's a nice enough model with lots of parts I didn't already have, and it is great to once again see the ideas from those large 2003-era Designer Sets make a return.
  13. Very happy to see part 44292 in the new brick set. 4404-1 and some of the scale RACERS sets will benefit from this, at the very least. Looks like I have some wheelset-related updating to do!
  14. I particularly agree with option 2. Besides, didn't you already make this thread? I remember you requesting this in the LDD5 thread too. Many other builders have feature requests for LDD; complaining each time a new update doesn't yet implement them is not the way to go about things. EDIT: Links added oh mah goodness
  15. It'd be nice to have SOME things to do this year. Well since I started these when box shots were first revealed, I've finished them. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 31013 - Red Thunder [Model A] - theme: Creator LXF (LDD 4.3.6) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 31013 - Red Thunder [Model B] - theme: Creator LXF (LDD 4.3.6) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 31013 - Red Thunder [Model C] - theme: Creator LXF (LDD 4.3.6) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 31014 - Power Digger [Model A] - theme: Creator Updated 2015-01-16: used a 3795 plate instead of 2 x 3021s for some weird reason. 16. As a dedicated collector of all things Creator and Mini, I see you have the full list there. There will be three more mini sets in the first wave of 2014, but it looks like they won't be in canisters. Good luck collecting these nice things - after that, there are 13 X-Pods to collect (unless you are fortunate enough to have them already).
  17. If you don't mind the bricks being well used, you could have a look around some car boot sales / flea markets (not sure what they'd be called in NZ), or check the classifieds section of the local newspaper - maybe even send in a "LEGO Wanted" ad?
  18. There's a topic in the LDD forum which goes into further detail about getting quality screenshots from LDD, as well as preparing them for uploading (I am biased towards the ImageMagick option). If you don't already have a place to host your images, Brickshelf and BrickSafe are dedicated LEGO content filehosts with free account signups.
  19. Brickset? Example, with a Santa polybag
  20. It seems like you have this, or maybe this! Those are SUPER old-skool.
  21. I originally thought that these things were rare in dark green: Being that they were only available in some hard-to-find sets and all. I bought two a while back for a small MOC, because it jut HAD to be in that colour. Now I see that someone's got nearly 300 of the buggers. How the heck does that happen?
  22. LDD seems to behave in such a way that where a part is clicked will affect how it can be manipulated, and though the behaviour when positing things is often baffling, "holding" a part a different way can make things easier. For example, click a part to be placed on where you expect it to connect to something else. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Someone here created a chart in LDD some time ago (I'm ashamed to admit that I've forgotten who) which shows that there are about a dozen un-named colours "hidden" away in LDD. Could Flamingo Pink be one of the un-named colours in the top row (4, 16, 17)? I recently updated this chart by doing some cut-and-paste on the .LXFML with values up to 512. This revealed that 299 and 306 appear to be in LDD's DB, but have that same strange bug as 301 Silver, where no "base" colour is defined. 132 Black Glitter is also there. These are represented by 3062s in the chart.
  23. Brickset has lots of new box shots up, so guess this means that any embargoes have been lifted! I'm getting worried about "31013 Red Thunder", "31014 Power Digger", and "31015 Emerald Express" being represented by small boxes. I've got all 16 of what I call "CREATOR Minis", and I'm currently buying enough spare bricks to build all three models at once. I was looking forward to adding three more of those nifty canisters to the collection, because they have plenty of space for all the extra parts.
  24. I don't mind the Mountain Hut having BURPs, because I don't have any of those. I have read that CREATOR sets are good for bringing such things to folk such as me, so I will be buying this for mah inventory. Haters be damned.
  25. Being as I am a terrible photographer (and more than a little OCD about capturing the "correct" colours), I choose to present the detail of my MOCs with LDD/POV-Ray shots. I can have full control over lighting, positioning, and even have a transparent background for placing the model in a scene. I believe The LEGO Company has been using renders for a while now, and for that reason, I think it's unfair to criticise hobby builders for doing so. After all, I did a lot of post-editing on this thing below, including softening the shadows and combining composite renders to get more realistic transparency. Every model I design in LDD is intended to be built for real, and I will often refine the digital design alongside the physical one, in the event that structural problems arise during building. This has improved my approach to design "in my mind's eye" to the point where both digital design and physical building are rapid processes which often result in a sturdy model. ALSO: Tools such as LDD Manager are invaluable for checking the availability of parts in particular colours, and creating a shopping list when it's time to actually build a thing!
