LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
Gnac replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I approve of this message. However, I don't envy the folk who would have to implement this. Spline manipulation is an "intermediate skill" when working in two dimensions (in such as a vector drawing application), but adding the third dimension may bring an exponential amount of challenges for programmers, UI designers, and end-users alike. I'm too tired to elucidate on this right now, but I'll smash out some bullet points after a nap. -
NEW LDD Brickset out - 1392
Gnac replied to Lyichir's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I must say that I really appreciate the LDD Team's efforts with all these updates. There's a lot of good stuff in the latest update, and It is good to see more legacy parts. I often wonder what the designers of classic parts might think about people loving their geometries enough to crave them in LDD. It is also totally splendid that we have the means here to offer feedback on what is at its most basic form, a really great CAD package. I use LDD as a Prototyping tool, to design, buy, then build. It has come in useful even for things that I don't eve feel confident in being useful to others - the Top-right quadrant of this image contains a desk stand for a smartphone (there's also a thing in the foreground that I am developing with LDD, you might know about a larger version of it :B). -
LDD Official Sets UPGRADE Report
Gnac replied to Calabar's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
In this post: http://www.eurobrick...00#entry1797476 Set 31019 / Models A, B & C, and set 31021 / Models A, B & C, have been updated to LDD 4.3.8b1392 to take advantage of new parts and prints (eyes, double baby bows). The version number in the index will not need to be updated, but I am posting this here so that anyone who is interested in these models can get a more up-to-date version. Also THIS: http://www.eurobrick...25#entry1754303 Similar goings on here, but this time, set 31022 is the offender. YES! -

Patience: Superkalle will be on it once he's woke up and had a nutritious breakfast. I am not even supposed to be awake right now! EDIT: And maybe Aanchir / Nachapon. can't forget. -
NEW LDD Brickset out - 1392
Gnac replied to Lyichir's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
OMG THE UPDATE Perhaps this should be reappropriated into the official thread, since it has been itching for so much from the beginning. A bit dissappointing, but still, YOU MAH DAWG. I hope those rubber treads are at least available in a "typical" configuration, since similar things were unuseable in sets such as 4888-1. (They were made "useable" a few updates ago, but no-one updated the sets. BEAT ME IF YOU DARE) EDIT ZERO: Actually this is pretty excellent, disregard all previous diappointment. EDIT 1: I have experenced this update in a very much inebriated mode, so forgive all such as typos - aside from the new bits, existing things apear to have been moved around so that they might appear more logical to someone who may not be used to the whole manner of things. EDIT 2: Most things to do with wheels are now actually in the section in which you may expect to find them: WHEELS. So you can get all yer hubs, specific bearings, rubbery bits, fancy spokes and squidgy bits for trax in that section. This is a pretty good thing that I appreciate, and I daresay, not the limit of what has been improved. -

Click on menu: "Help > About", and look below the big blue brick for the "Brick Version: n" part. If "n" is higher than 1264, then I am a bit jealous. -

Hot poop! You should post here more often. I occasionally see your cars while browsing the "random" selection on Brickshelf and get inspired to make things, but then I look at my tiny bit bucket and get discouraged. Maybe an onslaught would make me more accustomed to instant noodles so I can afford more parts. Oh, to stay on-topic: it's 10pm here in Britland, and I don't have an update, wagh. -
NEW LDD Brickset out - 1392
Gnac replied to Lyichir's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
What's the brickset number? Also: ARE THERE ANY NEW WHEELS. This is super-important. -
AndyC explained perfectly why LDD doesn't allow this, but there is a viable option both in LDD and for your assembly: 3/4 pins, whose sole purpose appears to be in allowing connections between half-beams and full-width holey-things. These should stop any unwanted lateral movement, but not weight induced sag (and eventual damage), so it would be best practice to have a couple of bricks below the beams to take the load off them.

The Tiny Turbos onslaught CONTINUES - I recently bought some BrickMaster polybags (muh commitment), and discovered some other things. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7452 - Le Mans [brickMaster Model] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Notes: Does not like being rebuilt onto one of those pull-back chassis from the Shell / Ferrari promo. LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 7453 - Off Road [brickMaster Model] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These BrickMaster polybags were bought as a "super-lot", which not only included set 4948, but also a nice bonus instruction sheet to build some new models with the parts from all three sets. I didn't think of any names for these because I didn't have much to work with. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4948+7452+7453 - "BrickMaster Racers Exclusive 1" - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4948+7452+7453 - "BrickMaster Racers Exclusive 2" - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4948+7452+7453 - "BrickMaster Racers Exclusive 3" - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Notes: Sadly this one can't be built at the same time as the others, due to the two extra 6014/6015 wheelsets it requires. LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This next set has an alternate build in the instruction booklet which combines the two cars into a monster (as with many other Tiny Turbos sets), using leftover pieces to complete a slightly different helicopter. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8152 - Speed Chasing [Model A] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors: No stickers LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8152 - Speed Chasing [Model B] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors: No stickers LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8495 - Crosstown Craze - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors: The spare wheels on the back of the truck's trailer don't connect to anything, so consider this when moving the model. Everything's grouped anyway. No stickers LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 40200 - BMW [Promo] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors / notes: Part 11002 (Bearing Element 2X2 2/3 V2) not available in LDD - replaced with 6157 (seems to be a very minor part variation anyway, perhaps not worthy of inclusion) This set is almost identical to set 30035, aside from the change of the 50947s from dark bley to black, and the newer axle bearings. LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cheers to mzoli for pointing out that the name of set 7452 was wrong (this is what happens when you cut and paste from older posts). It has now been corrected!- 5,046 replies

It certainly makes more sense to have a 2x2, as only one piece will be needed instead of pairs, as is such with wedge plates. My suggestion was totally selfish, because of this: The bare grey left uncovered by the wedge plates doesn't look too good, and there's only a single hollow knob for anything to attach. The 2x2 corner-curve plates would still be useful on this model, though. Aw YES. This is another part that could really make an idea work - in particular, this prototype for a steering system in tight wheelarches: The geometry is fine, but there are two 13M beams underneath that are only held in place by the knob-wheel assembly in the middle. The dark tan pins near the wheels only secure to the L-beams. A better cross-block than 32184 in this position would allow me to use 3M pins to reduce flex / loosening, and improve steering lock.

Nice, this seems like a good counterpart to Efferman's Custom Parts thread in the Technic forum. I'm particularly interested in this, and I'd like to see a 2x3 plate with a rounded edge that fits the same sort of curve as this, on its side: If you're doing Technic parts, a 1x3 beam with the centre hole rotated by 90deg would be rad. Like this but with pinholes instead of axles.

I was going to apologise for snaffling two of those last month (I've been buying parts to triple the pieces for each of my Creator Minis), but if you're the buyer of these three in the used column for april 2014, then you got them at a decent price. On topic: There's a thread in the Ambassador forum here for suggesting new parts (whether they be new designs, or existing parts in other colours). Maybe take a look and add some ideas?

Here's a load of combination models for the Tiny Turbos subtheme of Racers. Some of these things are outrageous! Seeing that these models don't actually have names, I had a bit of fun making some up, by combining the names of the sets which make up each combination model. Some of them work, some don't, others are mildly funny. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8119+8122 - "Thunder Viper" [Combination Model] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors: No stickers LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8120+8121 - "Rally Marshall" [Combination Model] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors: No stickers LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8130+8131 - "Terrain Rider" [Combination Model] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors: No stickers LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8132+8133 - "Night Rider" [Combination Model] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors / notes: No stickers WHAT A COOL NAME LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8148+8151 - "EZ-Sportster" [Combination Model] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors: No stickers LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8149+8150 - "Midnight Turbo" [Combination Model] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors: No stickers LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8192+8194 - "Lime Muscle" was posted here by marco9999. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8193+8195 - "Blue Tow" [Combination Model] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors / notes: No stickers Not impresssed with this name at all LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8301+8304 - "Urban Slickster" was posted here by Aanchir. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8302+8303 - "Rod Destroyer" was posted here by Aanchir. He saved you all from a terribly mucky pun about the name of this one. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8641+8642 - "Flame Crusher" [Combination Model] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors / notes: No stickers This one nearly ended up being called "Monster Glider", because I've been choosing first and last names based on the order in which the combination sets are shown on the instructions sheet, but really - it's not as good as FLAME CRUSHER. LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8643+8644 - "Power Maniac" [Combination Model] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors: No stickers LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8655+8658 - "RX-Wheelie" [Combination Model] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors: Part 51569 (Rim Ø 17X6, Lacquered) not available in LDD, replaced with part 30285 No stickers LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8656+8657 - "F6/4" [Combination Model] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors: No stickers LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8661+8666 - "Carbon-X" [Combination Model] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors / notes: No stickers The "X" makes it awexome LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8662+8665 - "Blue Enforcer" [Combination Model] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors: No stickers LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8663+8664 - "Fat Hero" [Combination Model] - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors / notes: No stickers Quite possibly the best name there is. LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OK I am taking a break now. I should have been building a dream house all this time, but I lost interest.- 5,046 replies

This part lurks inside the group with the "axe" icon, and it's so packed with things that it would take a lot of scrolling to find it visually - I had trouble spotting it myself. A screenshot probably wouldn't be helpful, but there is a good way to isolate the part you want. If you know the part's "design ID", you can type it into the search box at the top of the brick palette. I had a quick look on Brickset, and found what I believe to be the part you're looking for - 95199.

New day, new RACERS. 2007 was a great year for Brickmaster polybags whose instructions are no longer available online - I haven't bought 7452 or 7453 yet, so they'll have to wait (or until someone else does them). Does your current Lego setup inspire you to build?
Gnac replied to trippybrowneyes's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Right now I am inspired to have all the parts from the Creator Minis sets, x3. I made a PHP script to read the CSV files from Brickset, cache the images from LEGO.com on my HD, and slowly but surely, I am making orders on CrackLink and ticking off the elements in my little script. I am just a few dozen pieces away from having a pair of nieces who will probably know nothing of all the effort that has been made to stop them thinking: "OH YOU WANT THAT? WELL I WANT THAT TOO, AND ONLY ONE OF US WILL GET IT" Having an organised drawer-based storage system has been invaluable here, but I must also extoll the virtues of those sturdy clear trays that Tesco Tiramisus come in, because they are pretty good for pouring bits into. I have eaten three dozen of the things, and I am now sick of them. EDIT: oh, to make this more relevant, it's good to know that I have the physical and digital resources to track my parts, so I can pour EVERYTHING into a pile and have those two little madams stay quiet for a couple of hours, and not worry about rebagging all the parts into their respective canisters later on. -
[KEY TOPIC] Official LEGO Sets made in LDD
Gnac replied to Calabar's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Oh, as a big fan of Creator Minis (and a hopeless Creator polybag collector), I can see the genius in small things. I like how many Racers sets are in the same scale as the die-cast cars that my little nephew plays with, and he enjoys shooting these pull-back Ferraris along a most bizarre stunt track system (and yet the designs are rugged enough not to explode into bits). He used set 30196 as obstacles to smash into. I worry about him. I was so impressed by those Ferrari promo sets, that I suddenly got interested in the Racers theme, and I now regret not doing so sooner. I'm a bit worried about not being able to get a full collection - I must have all the official bags / canisters and instructions. Cripes knows how much a complete 30036 - Buggy Racer would cost. I also like how some of the parts made it into other sets, such as the "racers guard" in the Mini Digger. I'll be incorporating some of these specific parts into MOCs soon, so I really appreciate that they exist, both for real AND in LDD. On a related note: some of the boxed sets include instructions for multiple vehicles, but also include "combination" builds within the same booklet - for example, page 21 of set 8152 shows some combination builds, and I have no idea how to categorise these. I was thinking of labeling each build as they appear in the instructions as 8152a, 8152b, etc., ...but my mind imploded when I got to page 21.- 5,046 replies

LDD removing bricks upon opening a file
Gnac replied to Cara's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
When things stray from the orthagonal way of building, I find that the quickest way to fix a wonky assembly is to place a lone brick, then drag the misaligned parts onto that brick. Since the newly-placed brick will be perfectly aligned with LDD's grid, the assembly has no choice but to line up with it. -

There's loads of Racers stuff missing! I am going to do something about this. So I will be posting all the models wot were released in canisters and polybags year-by-year, day-by-day until they are done. Although I have about 36 models done already, I thought it would be best to split everything up for these reasons: There is most likely a character limit for posts here, and doing everything at once will probably trigger it. I once had a mouse with a broken scroll wheel and it was a NIGHTMARE to do stuff. Calabar will be up all night cataloguing my doings. So here, some canisters from 2005. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 8641 - Flame Glider - theme: Racers / Tiny Turbos Errors: Part 50946 (Plate 1x2 W.
