[KEY TOPIC] Official LEGO Sets made in LDD
Gnac replied to Calabar's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Some Bricktober things. I'm not entirely sure which theme these would fit into - I noticed that the "Mini Modulars" are grouped with the other main modular buildings, so maybe that's the place for these, also? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 40180 - Bricktober Theatre [Promo] - theme: Bricktober LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 40181 - Bricktober Pizza Place [Promo] - theme: Bricktober LXF (LDD 4.3.8) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 40182 - Bricktober Fire Station [Promo] - theme: Bricktober Errors / notes: Illegal building technique (page 25, step 4) where part 4274 (Connector Peg W. Knob) is inserted into a brick cavity. The helicopter's rotors have been positioned in the correct place, but do not make a connection. The peg has been hidden away in the bell tower! (Fixed: cheers SuperKalle) The helicopter itself also doesn't make a connection with anything, so consider this before moving the model. Currently working on those Bricktober models in the range 40180-40183. They should be done in a couple of hours, as long as I don't run into any more 'orrible illegal techniques such as the helicopter rotor blades in the Fire Station set. EDIT: YESH -
LEGO Shell Promotional launch of exclusive polybags in Singapore
Gnac replied to WhiteFang's topic in LEGO Licensed
Ouch. I did this myself, but eventually managed to put it back together in working order. I initially got the spring the wrong way around, though. A whole hour of fun and frustration! I ended up buying a replacement anyway, because I'd basically "soiled" that one. -

Aw lordy, those wheel hubs with the yellow details. That fuel truck. The overall quality of the vehicles seems much better than the last run of promos, too. Who do I throw money at to get these? -
[KEY TOPIC] LDD 4 Bugs and brick errors
Gnac replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
It could be a camera problem. I've had occasions where I've perfectly aligned the camera to take an overhead shot, saved the file, and re-opened it to discover what you have described. If you can upload the LXF here, I or somebody else can paste some new camera co-ordinates into the file so that you can see the model again. -
LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
Gnac replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I'd like to see tooltips for items in the templates palette, to reflect the filenames of the .LXFMLs wot lurk there. I'm working on some little timesavers which I will reveal later on today, but it's a bit troublesome to use them, the way things are at the moment. Maybe this suggestion is simple enough to happen sooner! -
I remember "0" (zero) worked for making bricks invisible back in LDD 4.3.5, but that trick now results in a bright white part, much like the other "broken" materials such as 301 (chrome) silver. I wonder when that changed? Would it be 109 (Pc Black Ir)? I can see Spin̈al Tap enjoying that.

[KEY TOPIC] LDD 4 Bugs and brick errors
Gnac replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
I've noticed a design ID mixup between the two "PLATE 1X1 W. HOLDER" parts. 4085 (with its thin clip) is the older part, whereas 60897 (thicker, round-ended clip) is the newest one. The IDs for these are swapped around in LDD, and it's only just occured to me that they've been that way for a looong time. I imagine it would corrupt some older models if this were to be fixed (I have a couple that rely on the smaller collision volume of the 4085). -

I quite enjoy doing "minibuilds", and this was no exception. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 10242 - Mini Cooper MK VII - theme: Creator / Expert Errors: Due to collision errors with part 56904 (Rim Narrow Ø 30/14 W Cross), the "spare tyre" will not fit in its compartment. The tyre itself does fit, but the rim has been left underneath the model. All the stuff in the boot - the picnic basket (and some of its contents), the water bottle and the spare tyre - do not make connections with anything. Consider this before moving the model. That excellent gingham picnic blanket is not available in LDD D: Print for part 15923 (Brick 1x4x1 1/3 "No.1001") not available in LDD; replaced with blank part 10314 Print for part 13541 (Flat Tile 1X1, Round "No.12") not available in LDD; replaced with blank part 98138 No stickers LXF (LDD 4.3.8)- 5,046 replies

I'm working on 10242 right now. It should be done in a couple of hours. EDIT: Wagh, it was more than a couple. -
So I got back from holiday to find - inside a few fat envelopes on my doormat - the last of the yellow bits I needed to "complete" my 31023. Pictured below are the old, badly-hued ones, making up a good chunk of the yellow parts. Luckily I had most of the common stuff already in my stash, and some of the parts I expected to be dodgy were actually good. This is really the only bad mark against an otherwise brilliant set. It gets the rare honour of having alternate models that I enjoy more than the main build; I totally agree that the B model (race car) is a fantastic thing. Also! Do you have any plans to review 31024 Roaring Power? Even though I already own the set, I have no photography skills, and my writing style is too erratic to come up with anything useful.

Discussion Should LEGO make a Military Theme?
Gnac replied to KisKatona's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Who needs a military theme when a discussion thread can become a battlefield? Unfortunately, this is a war of attrition. -

85969 is probably a better replacement, since it has a similar diameter. However, this wheel cover is easy to miss, because for some reason it doesn't actually appear in the "wheels" category!- 5,046 replies

Not to worry, it'll be available on various online marketplaces to purchase a few days later, for only a quarter of the entry fee! (yes I bought a mini VW Camper for the LOW price of £20 and I am still sore about missing the chance to get it for nowt) I am putting funds aside to get both when the time comes. Still supposed to be catching up on the existing sets in the CREATOR theme mumble grumble

LDD 5, what features do YOU want?
Gnac replied to BasOne's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Probably not, but it's interesting to read through some of the early suggestions and see that some of them have made it into LDD 4, in some form. Someone cares about us! -
This is a known issue with the latest LDD Brick Version (1392) in the "basic" LDD view mode, where many more "old / legacy" colours have been made visible, and this has made the pallete so tall, that the "basic" colours have disappeared off the top of the screen. SuperKalle has reported it to the LDD team to be fixed, but in the meantime, there are temporary solutions: You may access the missing top portion of the colour palette by changing the building mode to "LDD Extended" through the menu: "View > New Themes > LDD Extended". From here, the standard colours will be accessible with the "Filter Bricks by Colour" button at the bottom of the brick palette, or by using the "Paint Tool" to recolour existing bricks in the model.

WHY HAVE I NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THIS. I just bought 56 english dollars worth of stuff from S@H. AND it's a CREATOR model, which means I absolutely must have it. EDIT: Cheers vean, good info. I think it's worth posting in the thread over in the Special Themes Forum!- 5,046 replies

It's possible that the thin metal part which comprises the "switch" isn't making a connection somewhere. I recommend using some tweezers to bend the contact points out juuust a little bit, then see if you get any response out of it. The circled part in the image below is a common culprit. Also check if the connection points are clean and free of verdigris. Other possibilities involve detached wires between the PCB and speaker, or worse, the speaker's transparent membrane may have become torn or detached. In the latter case, it may be less trouble to buy a new one, that is if you REALLY want to hear the sound of a robot cow.

Nice review, it's reassuring to see that I'm not the only one to notice the awful colour variances in yellow parts. I've already ordered this set from S@H (along with 31024 Roaring Power), and I'll no doubt have to "blind buy" some replacements on Bricklink in the hope that I get some better quality bits. One gripe though: the spoiler for the Race Car is on back-to-front!

LEGO Rundown- Are All Themes Connected?

Creator is certainly getting more like City, and City has similarities to TLM. I wonder what Kevin Bacon makes of all this.- 18 replies

Well, I was hoping to finish buying all the 3-in-1 Creator things, and I've so far been avoiding the "expert" line because of a combination of stickers, no 3-in-1 fun, and a probably unfounded belief that models such as this are the beginning of the end for some of the huger multibuild sets that we've had in the past. But I don't think I can resist this! This is all I can find without making an account somewhere or paying nearly £16 for the registration history, sorry. I would guess that designer Andy (or one his acquaintances) owned a real one with this registration :B

Sounds like you want the parts to make this assembly: Unfortunately, these and many other toothed parts (plates, half-bushes, etc.) aren't available.
-
I just got 31020 - Twinblade Adventures yesterday, and I noticed a bizarre error around pages 19-21 in book 2: there's a small assembly made from a light bley 2x2 plate and a white angle plate which keeps disappearing and coming back. Nice set though, seems to go well with 5866 - Rotor Rescue.
