LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
MAB replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Have LEGO ever stated that Hasbro's licensing was the reasons that they glued magnet sets or wouldn't release SW figures unless as part of a bigger set? I remember the announcement made to ambassadors about the magnets, and it didn't mention licensing at all. They said they were going to glue all SW ones without giving a reason and, so that consumers get the same experience across all the products, they would glue all of them in other ranges too. Of course, they want consumers to think that they are tied by licensing, but there is the opposing view that a number of people were buying magnets to get the figures cheaply instead of having to buy the large sets they also appeared in. I don't believe I have ever seen them comment that they had to do it, or specifically a statement saying that it was due to licensing belonging to someone else. The only thing I have seen is the IDEAS rules about licensing, that they can remove projects if legally required to by another license holder. I also don't believe Hasbro that did ever sue, let alone win with the judgement that a minifig can be classified as an action figure. There were rumours they were going to sue, but has anyone ever found any records about an actual court case? -

I cannot see it being a stand alone HP or FB. Why would LEGO do a CMF series when they could use the same figures to sell full sets? Unless they are going to do a large set (like The Simpsons House / Kwik-E-Mart / Disney Castle) with exclusive minifigures and then do a CMF series alongside. -
Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces

They don't sell minifigures, they sell minifigure parts. They are unlikely to let you buy all the parts if they are not listed, as it is a licensed figure. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours

Why not? There are plenty of minifigure parts / accessories (especially licensed parts) that are used only once. Same here. The Wizard of Oz isn't big with kids here (UK). Maybe it is with pensioners. -

The Greatest Collectible Minifigure THANKS AND GOODBYE
MAB replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
And the S3 elf printing is probably better than many of the LOTR and Hobbit elves. Also the lack of yellow printing on the torso means that the heads / hands can easily be switched too, which gets them extra points in my view. If there had been yellow skin on the torso, he'd be a lesser figure for me. The Zombie lost in group 14, to the Satyr / Faun (he also won his round 2). The Zombie was really popular when he was new, but I think he lost favour when reproduced (in different colours) in the Halloween set, then a number of other zombies (with probably better printing and parts) came in Monster Fighters and Series 14. The Spartan hasn't been redone (although there are many other army builders now). He is fairly plain (I'm sure he'd get a better shield these days) but still popular as a 300 army builder. The Elf being in S3 was probably just at the right time, wonderful printing on the torso and shield, good time for new parts.- 2,045 replies

The Greatest Collectible Minifigure THANKS AND GOODBYE
MAB replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
This is the new vs old argument. Imagine what the elf would look like if he was released now. It's one I'd like them to update with a partner, or do a decent female version. Looks like the Queen just got a boost! Reminds me of this ...- 2,045 replies

MOC: Elves, Ragana's Shadow Tower
MAB replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I think you did the right thing with the sticker sheets, those windows look superb. The downside for me is the lack of the lime green spiky vine piece that is in the original set. It's one of my favourite parts and would look great around the base. The basement scene is great! -

Elf v Rogue seems to be a done deal based on current votes. 10 is a lot to come back, even if another 40 vote. The queen vs fortune teller is the interesting one, that is really neck and neck. Edit: will that be enough to spur a comeback? 2 closer now! The penguin is winning for now. But it says something when the minifigure is less important than its accessory (same with the babysitter).- 2,045 replies

They have touched on ideas of steampunk in the past, without needing to call it steampunk. Monster Fighters contained quite a bit that was easily modified into Victorian Era items, and hence into steampunk - Rodney Rathbone, the Haunted House, then there was the plane for the Ghost Train, the truck and car in the Zombies and the Monster Set. Then there is the Sea Cow from TLM. Even Aira's Airship in the recent Elves range is a nod towards steampunk-style designs. Perhaps the closest is the MBA level 4 set: some of the models and especially the box art got very close.

The problem exists because in the Lego world, yellow skin minifigures are not meant to represent white / pink / caucasian people. The yellow-skinned world is meant to be raceless. Your ideas submission is suggesting the opposite.

Why is it wrong for them to do this? She is one of the key Friends characters and in Friends, the characters are named. Whereas you could count the number of un-named generic firemen or policemen in City and come up with a much larger number. And although there are a number of variants, remember that some of these differ by just using a bow or a hat, or swapping one colour skirt for another but keeping the torso the same (or very similar, here there are two verisons due to the white line printing). So the bricklink convention and thus counting them takes into account the headgear accessories. Such as ...

Weird or even awkward LEGO creations in history
MAB replied to Capparezza's topic in General LEGO Discussion
You don't often see them in kids' media or toys now. But it was common to have them in kids modelling sets 30-40 years ago. I remember building airfix kits like this ... whereas the modern equivalents do not come with the swastika on the tail but retain the blank cross. The same with WW2 toy soldiers and so on. You used to be able to buy loads of toys with the swastika on. Even our beloved Action Man range ... -

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
MAB replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
The downsides of those is that we have had 3x Frankenstein monsters in the past five years or so, a couple of werewolves and of course Fred, Daphne, Velma, and Shaggy very recently. I expect most people that were into Lego and Scooby Doo would have already bought the sets last year. Such a series would already be quite niche, and having just been done as sets is likely to go down like Simpsons Series 2. -
Wow, nice price!

What would you want from it though? The gang have been done as have many of the "monsters". The CMF series will only provide characters and I imagine they have done everything recognizable already.
