Contest! The Frozen Beyond, Results are in!
Simon_S replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Guilds of Historica
This sounds so great, I have already so many ideas. I know exactly what you mean -
I love how few different colours you put in this build. The tudor work looks great and the ground and the walls are also nice! Brick on!

The inspiration for this African warrior came from the wooden statue you can see in the second picture. I built this small sculpture for the Creations for Charity. Buy it here! Thanks for looking and have a nice day! -Simon

Welcome! Love that fish banner -
Thanks mate :) Thank you! Thank you! Haha thanks! I guess that's a never ending discussion... I choose fleshies, so I stick to them ;-)

After serving 300 days in the Avalonian Army, Simon of Nalderic finally got released :D #justdidit I just enjoy the free time I have with LEGO building. This build should have been for the Colossal Battle Contest, but I missed the deadline. Here's a shot of how it would have looked then (saidly not related to Avalonia): Thanks for checking out and have a great day! Simon

Nice landscaping! Altought I'm not a big fan of minifigs, I also have to say that all the poses look very good!

Nice build! Those colours on the house look great (Mitgardia's always cool ) and the dragon looks good to. I also like that you kept the rockwork simple, so all attention is drawn on the house, otherwise it could have been pretty distracting (simply because we love to look at good rockwork).

Nice one Milo! Your figs look as usual good and I like how you built a whole landscape on top of the cave althought it wouldn't be necessairy for the story. It just makes the build feel complete... As I know myself I would have just built a cave for this and left everything else beside, so it's great to see that you haven't been so lazy as I am sometimes ;-)

Stunning build mate! That roof looks fantastic and the fence around it is also good. The crow on it works great! Brick on -
Thanks Lasse! Your large greek (or was it roman? I don't remember exactly) town was a great inspiration to finally jump into this theme. Thank you Tomsche! Thanks :) Thank you. Telling the story was more difficult for me then the builds themself. There are so many details and cool parts in the book, but you can never tell everything you want (also because the judges don't want to read a 5 page long story). So I had to shorten it very much, which wasn't quite easy for me. Thanks man! Thank you. I also worked a long time on it and rebuilt it twice until I was happy with a result. Thank you Ardelon :) Thanks GG! Thanks mate :). Good luck to you when it comes to the judges! Thank you! Thanks man :) Thank you Titus!

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Yeah, welcome Mr. Greeble! (what a cool username ) May I ask where the torso and legs are from? I take my pics as Kai said (with the difference that I put the ISO on automatic ), with a tripod and a 2 second timer. But I have no idea how to enlighten darker spots without getting the brighter spots even brighter (I'd just take normal pictures and do it with photoshop) -
The Trojan War Let me tell you a story, my son. We don't know if it really happened or not, but that also doesn't matter... so listen carefully. It began long ago, in the palace of Menelaus, the king of Sparta. He had money, power, but most importantly, he had the most beautiful wife in the world, Helena. He had a bellyfull of his rivals, the Trojans, but he also didn't want to argue with them all the time. So he invited them to a feast to put all the disputes aside. After many days of celebrating they left... though not alone. Helen eloped with Paris, the younger prince of Troy... and so it all started This was the perfect reason to start a war against Troy and finally kill of his opponents. With his brother Agamemnon, who was king of the Greeks, Menelaos built up the largest army the world has ever seen. So they sailed to the coast of their enemies and started a siege. But althought the Greek had way more men, they couldn't overcome the huge walls of Troy. After nine years of failed attemts, they finally remarked what went wrong: They may have the most men, but they didn't have the strongest man. So they sent Odysseus to find Achilles, a demigod. His mother hid him on a farm, because she knew that if he'd go in the Trojan War, he'd die there. With his artful lingua Odysseus could convince him to come with him. Achilles may die in front of Troy's walls, but if he'd go to war, his name would outlast over thousands of years... For Odysseus it wasn't that easy. After he brought Achilles to the war, he thought that they would finally win it. But instead of fighting against Troy, Achilles argued with Agamemnon. Because of this little despute they could have lost the whole war. But Odysseus, disingenuous as he was, had an idea... They built a wooden horse out of some ships and then sailed away, only around the corner, where the Trojans couldn't see them. The next morning, the Greeks were left and the Trojans thought that they finally won the war. The wooden horse should be a gift for Poseidon, so that the sea would be still and that they'd have a fast return. To celebrate their victory, they took the horse in the city, in front of Apollo's temple, who was the patron of the city. Their gate was too small for it, so they even had to break a hole in the wall. After a nice evening and a lot of drinking, they all fell asleep and suddenly something moved in the horse. Odysseus, Achilles and some other Greek soldiers climbed out of the "present to Poseidon". From the inside of the city they could open the gate and through there and the hole in the wall, the Greeks stormed Troy... So in the end the Greeks won the war, but was it truly a victory? All their leaders, except Odysseus, died in the war and many Trojans could flee. One of them was Aeneas, who then built up a new Troy to the west of Greece, but that's another story, which is too long to tell now...

Nice work! The rockwork, all the greebles in the house and of course the unusual choice of colours (we already saw them in a lot of DC's builds, but it still looks good) make this a great build.

Wow, I just fell in love with your landscaping . Absolutely great work! #wantstojoinnocturnus

Book II - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Simon_S replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Congrats Rogue! I'm also back . We had a great feast at the end, then I went to italy for a week and now I'm back for building -
Thanks Carson :) Thank you. I also have a square one in the tallest tower that I built before the other one. Of course it doesn't look as good, but instead it's stabile. I may bring this to a convention one day, so stability is an important part Thank you Titus! Thanks man Thanks mate! Thank you It's also good to be a little bit building again. Only 2 weeks to go Thank you! Thanks a lot for this high praise Thanks mate. Do you mean those in the two gate towers? I can take pics of them for you soon. Thakn you Gideon . Thanks mate Thanks Captain. You exactly understood what I was trying with this build. I think a good castle doens't need super greebly walls and details everywhere to look good. Sometimes less is more Thanks SK! Thank you HH

Thank you Thanks LV! Thank you. I think the Kaliphlin are my favourite figs. Thank you Thanks Captain! Luckily LEGO building is about fun and not contests, so it's never too late to post a "build". Thank you Gunman. I often thought what to do with that face of which I almost have ten... So I got the idea to build a mime with it. Thank you Gideon! Thanks John You miss it, I missed it . Thank you! Thanks Isaac! All the Avalonian figs are in the castle, some are easier to see and some more hidden. Katniss is on the same tower as my sigfig, the druid walks out of the chapel and the mime stands behind the crowd and vainly tries to get their attention. You're so right. Thank you

Thank you Exetrius. I changed the water around three times (first with different shades of blue, then with tan near the rocks + different blues, all white) and I'm still not very happy with it. I went for the all white version, mostly to save pieces for the future. The thing I liked about it was that there was another bright colour in there which went well together with the green. Thanks Z! It feels so good to be more around here Thank you. I'm happy you like them as it was quite a pain to make them look (more or less ) good. Only 29 days left Thanks mate. After I finished the stonework I knew that there wasn't much innovative (special angles, techniques, etc) in this build, so I threw in some green and I think it worked out well. Thanks a lot... Go for it! My first castle was very small, didn't have any other angles than 90°, but it was a beginning. So don't procrastinate it and start building ! Thanks for this kind comment ME. Now that I found out that they have the same Wi-Fi password in all barracks in Switzerland, I will be around more often Btw. Your isle build was absolutely fantastic! Very inspiring . Thank you Captain! The last castle I built was quite different... with interiors on the backside and so on. I mainly built this to bring it to a convention, so I wanted it to have 360° viewable this time. Thank you Thanks Jorrith Thank you Graham! Thanks Milo! As I said above, just start building and have fun. The rest will come automatically. Thank you. And you're so right, that's exactly why I love Mitgardia Avalonia Thank you Bregir. I'm not that much into story writing (especially when it comes to finishing one I started long time ago ), maybe I will put something together when I have done a few more builds, but for now, that's all you get . Thanks LV! Thank you

Purple roofs seem to be in fashion these days! Nice build, the tudor section is great!
