  1. Ok great, thanks a lot. I got all the jpegs and made them into a single PDF (I have Acrobat Pro) and uploaded it to my Brickshelf so I could share it back to you and others. It seemed to take awhile (as the file was nearly 30MB) but then when it finished the folder shows empty. This is the first time I've tried to use Brickshelf, is this normal? Does it need to be checked by a mod before it shows in the folder or are PDFs not allowed? Cheers, Joe
  2. Many thanks jamesster but, unfortunately, that Mediafire site is blocked here in China. If it's not too much trouble could you let me/us know when that Brickshelf folder is public? Cheers, Joe
  3. The designer in the video that GRogall posted (thanks for that BTW) said that the model was started by an intern and finished by her. Perhaps that explains some of it's shortcomings? Joe
  4. Those are some very cool minifigs, thanks for sharing. The backstory is interesting as well. Joe
  5. Thanks, interesting. Joe
  6. Really cool, thanks for sharing! Joe
  7. Wow, man, wow. I'm blown away and so jealous of your beautiful creation. I could write thousands of words of praise and really should but it's late so please accept my WOW. Joe
  8. Yes, please post some more pics if you've time. Thanks, Joe
  9. Ok thanks peterab and zephyr1034, I just noticed your replies. This new forum software is different from the old one, I no longer get reply notifications for topics I've merely posted in. Maybe I've got to change a setting in preferences, I dunno. My primary motivation in getting a set with PF was the PF components. I'm thinking it might be a little cheaper to get them in a set (is that true, anyone know?) and since I'd like to have a set anyway, it would kill two birds w/ one stone. The problem with Maersk is the STAMP and the railings. I won't apply the STAMP and, like you say, those railings are common parts. I still need to get PF for it but I guess it's not a priority. I'm trying to watch my pennies as we'll be going back to the US - and looking for jobs - here shortly after having lived in China for awhile. I've bought a bunch of Enlighten stuff here including the greenish diesel engine. It seems a bit of a waste to put expensive PF into something that only cost US$ 3 but it could be the best short-term solution until something better comes along and/or I get some parts to build my own things with. Thanks for your encouragement in that regard. That new Lone Ranger train set is looking promising and I've recently learned that kids like push trains so maybe I'll just get that. I'm not real crazy about licensed stuff, mainly because I don't think kids have any business watching a lot of the movies that the sets are made from. If he insists on watching the Lone Ranger I could always get some of the old B&W ones that I used to enjoy if the new movie is too violent or fast-paced. The B&W ones weren't too violent if memory serves. Thanks again, Joe
  10. Oh, that's VERY useful info, many thanks and thanks again to you peterab. Joe
  11. If you don't mind my asking; why would you want a push train? You already have the Power Functions or you want to do 9V or something? Thanks, Joe
  12. Ok, thanks peterab. It looks more substantial than HP or TS to me as well. You are correct; I would like to have something decent enough that my son (and I) could have fun with but I wouldn't have to be particularly protective of it. I've got Maersk and have been sorely tempted by Emerald Night (although it's too European-looking) but those aren't very kid-friendly. I've mentioned those things before in other threads here, perhaps you've recalled that. There don't seem to be thousands of posters here on a daily basis. Maybe what's really bothering me is that this is a nice looking train set but it doesn't look like it's made with Power Functions in mind? So, it's a little baffling to me as to why Lego would go to the trouble to make a nice train that you are supposed to just push around. I was seriously into HO trains for years so to have a train that you just push seems like sacrilege. So...personally I will seriously consider getting this set on sale if it's not too much trouble to put PF in and is sturdy, otherwise I guess I'll just hope for something more ideal to come along in the future. I've scored some Enlighten stuff here in China, guess I could put PF in that until a set comes along that I like. Thanks, Joe
  13. Ok thanks Faefrost. So it looks like Faefrost has answered your question; Lego and Playmobil have different business models basically, right? The discontinuation does kinda suck (maybe not for the speculators) but if you were a Lego bean counter it would make perfect sense. Maybe I'm jaded but I don't expect companies to look at me for anything but my money. Lego seems to be better than average in that regard to me. It's always possible to assemble the bricks to build the models without buying the set. It's time consuming and maybe more expensive but fun in its own way, right? Thanks, Joe
  14. There are lots of business reasons, most of which would just be speculation on my part, as to why Lego discontinues sets and I really don't feel like typing so much at the moment. Most of it has been covered in other threads on this site in addition to what's been posted here. You have raised an interesting point re; Playmobil. Perhaps it's easier to look at it from a Playmobil perspective and since I'm not familiar with that company at all maybe you could enlighten me? What exactly is the toy, it doesn't appear to be building blocks (I'm living in China and Playmobil isn't common here). How many themes do they have and do they all continue to be sold for many years? How are they able to be profitable doing that? Thanks, Joe
  15. Really impressive, this might be exactly what I was looking for for my Winter Village themed layout. That's the XL motor, right? It must really haul a@@. Thanks, Joe
  16. I'd like to get something like this - on sale - for my son and I to play with but I don't want anything too toyish. What do you guys think, is it akin to the Toy Story or Harry Potter trains (toyish) or is it something a little more serious? We're kinda new to Lego. There's nothing wrong with toyish but I'd just like to get something that is totally worth installing Power Functions in. Also, how do you think this would look running around a Winter Village themed set? Thanks, Joe
  17. I've never bought a bundle - I've spent a bundle but that's different - but I see them from time-to-time on the US S@H site. If I'm not mistaken they're normally offered for a limited time, perhaps for a month or two after the sets are first put up for sale? You get Double VIP points which is basically 10% off. Joe
  18. It seems faster these days than it was last year before the upgrades to me. It could always be faster though! Joe
  19. 10223 Kingdoms Joust is one of my favorite sets. If I was stranded on a desert island and could choose; 10223 or a supermodel for company, well, I'd choose the model but would feel bad I couldn't have 10223 too. Joe
  20. Toy Story Army Men was one of the first sets I bought, beautiful little set from a great company. Joe
  21. They've finally reached China! Scored a complete set from Taobao (China's eBay). The price went up about US$ 10, to US$ 60 for a set. A beautiful series of CMFs, maybe not my all-time favorite but ranks right up there. It's nice there's only one athlete, and it's an odd-ball sport to boot. Joe
  22. Wisconsin? The Land of 10,000 Cheeses? Welcome, Joe from the Show Me State
  23. 10223 Kingdoms Joust is a beautiful set but those Fantasy sets are nice too, and include a joust. I don't own the Fantasy sets but if I were you I'd probably get them and hope I get the cash for 10223 in the near future. 10223 is still in production and those others aren't but then you have the space issue. Why are the Fantasy sets for sale? The person selling them has decided to go with LOTR or the new Castle sets? You might buy the Fantasy sets and later decide that you too would rather have LOTR or the new Castle yourself? Basically it's up to you to decide what you want. Hope that helps, Joe
  24. Looks good, thanks. I guess the bodies and helmets are from Toy Story? Cheers, Joe
  25. That's one of the coolest Lego things I've ever seen, thanks for sharing! Joe
