Why is North America getting the new HF sets so late?
PenPlays replied to Zenerius's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Quite the contrary. Last years wave of Ninjago sold out in several stores before any of the Chima sets ran out in my area. Heck, the Ninjago wave in December was completely wiped from every store I went to at least until last week! When sets are on sale at stores, that typically means they aren't selling at a Star Wars/Ninjago rate. Chima is currently on the sale train as many stores (including Shop @ Home) are trying to clearance them off (at 50% off, which is crazy) to make room for other sets. However, it has been said, that Chima did do above average when it came to sales last year. Ninjago was said to have done better, even with the single wave. There is a good chance that Germany might be the opposite, as there are different regional preferences when it comes to these sets. -
At least we know Will Arnett will be getting money either way Despite the somewhat awkward video... If a Lego Designer loves this movie, It has to be good!

It's a spare Samurai Mech. I wouldn't be surprised if she had another one. Will the Mech be showing up again in the show? If so, they could still make money off the set.

Book II Challenge 1 (Category A): The Fire Inside
PenPlays replied to PenPlays's topic in Guilds of Historica
Congrats for being the first to find the Clutch Powers tie-in! I have a very interesting plan ahead in explaining how Mallock exists so far away in the future (from Historica's timeline). As for Chima. Being that the Outlands in the story seems to be absolutely insane in size, I can't exactly justify a location for it on the planet. Meaning that getting Chima in the story would be quite a ways down the line. I haven't even thought about it being in the story, but if there is an opening... -
Why is North America getting the new HF sets so late?
PenPlays replied to Zenerius's topic in LEGO Action Figures
I thought it kind of obvious, actually. I think it will be easier to explain this with a list. 1.The only unisex theme released in January was The Lego Movie (Friends, and Princesses were the others). 2. Ninjago was released a month early (their biggest IP currently). Technic is hard to find currently (TRU currently. Target and Wal-mart will be on the Technic train soon). City actually can help promote The Lego Movie, what with the 2 in 1's the TLM theme has. 3. Star Wars (the number 1 theme), Chima (their current media heavy IP), and Hero Factory (It's not exactly the most popular theme according to the Lego store employees / frequent sales) have been pushed to March. i.e. 1. Boys are the primary audience of Lego (I know a majority of TLG's sales come from girls as well, so don't get me wrong), so no distractions. Plus TLM has some sets that would otherwise get a girl's attention. 2. Getting their biggest IP out of the way early=no distractions. 3. Number 1 theme= release later? No distractions. Media heavy IP released later=no distractions. Then there's the last of the third bullet-point: HERO Factory Again, the theme is not exactly popular. Hence it looks like it got the bottom-end of the deal. It makes some sense, but, to be completely honest, HERO Factory is probably the only theme on this list that could have been released at anytime. Just a speculation, of course. -
About the Ninja X-1 Charger... Skip to 13:43. What you see is Samurai X's lair, but the really interesting bit is what is on the back pedestal.

It appears that they have been delayed to keep all focus on The Lego Movie. -

Book II Challenge 1 (Category C): Village of Sorrow
PenPlays replied to PenPlays's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thank you all! I wasn't expecting such nice comments on the Arch-itecture ( couldn't resist). It was really fun to do some Japanese style architecture, and it has been something I've been trying to do for a long time! Thank you for the votes. Due to the unsuspected quality of the photos, I was afraid no one was going to realize Malivan's expression. Thank you for noticing! Thank you all for the kind comments! -
Book II Challenge 1 (Category B): Reclaiming the Fort
PenPlays replied to PenPlays's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks! Expect my MOCs to flow together much like a book. Referencing to previous parts is a must! Thank you. You have no idea how many times I wished I had the bricks to make this fort into more of a fortress. Thank you all for the kind comments! -
Book II Challenge 1 (Category A): The Fire Inside
PenPlays replied to PenPlays's topic in Guilds of Historica
Another effort of my ongoing attempts at tying in as many Lego Themes as possible into Guilds of Historica (whether the future or the past!) There will be more on that later. Also, this isn't the fist time I've done an obscure tie-in. Some of my earlier builds regarding the history of Historica are riddled with castle references. (Two of my characters are also direct tie-ins, but that will remain a secret for now!) It does take a bit to notice them, as not everyone knows the names of certain characters Lego never bothered to fully introduce. Thank you for your vote! I posted it before 'midnight anywhere' (about a half hour from midnight on the US West Coast to be exact ). Being that that isn't clearly evident. I will say that the rest of the build technically qualifies. Thank you! The 1x1 round with a recessed hole is a fantastic little piece. Thanks. I was little worried about the lava, but being that, in reality, lava is more of a solid color, it worked out quite well (Its not very clear but the lava does have a waviness to it) Thank you all for the kind comments! -
Book II- Chapter 1- Category C : The Cellar

That throne room is excellent! The scale of the your Category C is absolutely amazing! The fact that there is a whole area within the cliff is icing on the cake. -

Previous Part: Reclaiming the Fort Dawn of Ages Chapter 3: Wrath of the Undead, Part 3: The Fire Inside Mallock the Malign had arrived to the peak of the volcano. "Now to spread the curse of the undead upon all of Historica," he said. Runes began to form around him when Sakuseisha pushed both Mallock and himself into the volcano. "No!" Yama shouted, uselessly reaching out for his master. "The only way he would survive is if the prophesy of the Master of Spinning Elements is his," Shiro said. Down the volcano's empty throat, Sakuseisha kept a tight grip to Mallock. "I will not let the death of the Higashino Masutaazu No Senshi be in vain!" the old Sensei said "Then my apologies." Mallock burst into smoke, reforming with a cloud at his feet. He glided down with Sakuseisha until... Sakuseisha gracefully touched the molten magma with his staff, the staff barely sinking into the heat. He spun himself around..., and around..., and around... ...until a tornado of flame formed around him. Mallock stood in shock. "I have the FIRE INSIDE!" Sakuseisha said. He began to forge waves from the lava, pounding against the walls, and eventually consuming Mallock and the Death Cane. Only his teleportation magic could have saved him... The threat of a Guildwide undead infestation was thwarted that day, by a prophesied Master of Spinning Elements... a Spinjitzu master! * Category A is the third, and final part of my MOCs for Challenge 1. And yes... ...This MOC meets the 16x16 base limit. C&C is welcome. I'd like to claim the following credit for UPDH: Landscape Design: Extreme Environments (lava)

Book II Challenge 1 (Category B): Reclaiming the Fort
PenPlays posted a topic in Guilds of Historica
Previous part: Village of Sorrow Dawn of Ages Chapter 3: Wrath of the Undead, Part 2: Reclaiming the Fort Sakuseisha slowly followed as Yama and Shiro led their fellow Ringsmen up the mountain, hoping to sneak on the Undead horde marching up the mountain trail. But they were too late. The Undead had already claimed the fort as their own. Naturally, Yama and Shiro jumped into action. "The Wizard must have slain some soldiers from the Hand of Corruption!" Malivan pointed out. "Look!" The sword wielding Ringsmen watched as the Ninja made simple work of the Mallock's undead soldiers. "So, you have returned, fools of Avalonia!" Mallock was alive and well from his fall from the ridge back in Cornovaria. An eye patch covered his mauled eye. "Back away while you still can! For when I climb this peak, all of the dead, whether under Lord Savaage's control or deep in the Kelra Labrynth will be mine! The Hand of Corruption will be forced to surrender by the might of an entire Guild of the Undead! And that fool Savaage trusted me with his men. HAH!" Mallock formed a cloud under his feet and flew his way up the remaining portion of the mountain. "Secure the fort," Sakuseisha said. "I will return." With those short words, the Sensei went from an age-slowed man to the swiftest of Ninja. His cape furled in the breeze. "Wait!" Yama said. "Sensei!" Shiro shouted. Both of the Ninja followed their master up the mountain. "Now what?" Drinnian asked. "We trade anti-climatic threats?" * Category B is the second part of my MOCs for Challenge 1. The fort is furnished with supplies in the rounded portion. I don't think that meat will stick to his ribs... C&C is welcome as always. Previous part: The Ridge Dawn of Ages Chapter 3: Wrath of the Undead, Part 1: Village of Sorrow Answering the call to aid Nocturnus, Owlan, Drinnian, and Malivan arrive at their destination: a water-logged village under a volcanic mountain within the Rakath Mountain Range. "My sources say that we'll meet our aid here," Drinnian said. The three walked up to a ruined Tori gate "It's a river village," Owlan said, his new armor reflecting the sky. "You would think there would be fishermen nearby." "Shh,' Drinnian said. A cloaked man stood still on the other side of the bridge ahead of them. They made their way toward the man. "The water is shallow," Malivan noticed. "Can't imagine anyone dying here." Drinnian ran over anxiously. "Are you Sensei Sakuseisha?" Drinnian asked. The man didn't turn around. "I am he," the man said, "but the warriors you have been anticipating... they... they are dead." The man's voice had a dark and sad undertone. "A Wizard of Eden befell our village. He carried a cane of death, and magic that robbed us of our life giving breath. His cane resurrected our fallen, and bewitched them to march for the wizard." "Mallock the Malign!" Owlan assumed. "If I may... er... Sen... sei. We fight for justice! If you join our ranks, we will help you seek justice for that villain's crimes of desecration!" "You," the Sensei started, "A man I have never met, wishes to treat me with a kindness that would only be given to a close ally?" "We all do," Drinnian added. The Sensei cleared his throat. "Yama! Shiro!" the Sensei said. "Tsukai yasu sa de de te kuru!" He smashed his staff against the stone at his feet. "If you stay true to your offer..." "... the the three of us are at your service." Two ninja appeared from their hiding places. "The one with the white mask is Yama, and the black mask is Shiro. We will lead you to a fort we established some years ago by shortcut. We will cut off this enemy there." "And I trust that you are battle ready?" Drinnian asked. "Indeed. For we are the last of the Higashino Masutaazu No Senshi*! * Category C is the first part of my MOCs for Challenge 1. There is a bridge and Tori module, two bamboo modules, and a desicrated gravestone module, all joined together by a trans-blue river of 1x1 rounds. C&C is welcome. Wonderful! TLG didn't pull a Chima on us He's referring to the excellent sounding Ninja X-1 Charger (which now that I think about it, sounds a lot like a name for a really expensive car).

The Ninja X-1 Charger ...This next wave is a love letter to Samurai X fans!! Any more info on the minifigures included in the sets, Corydoras? Specifically on whether there are Nindroids included?

The evil Ogel was the main antagonist of the Alpha Team theme, which featured six super-agents trying to stop the aforementioned mastermind from using mind-control orbs to take over the world.

Finally got these two freebuilds up. (Pictures are links.) These two builds finish off the Cornovaria Chronicles that I (regretfully) neglected some time ago, but I think their stories make up for it. Onto Challenge 1!
