Advice on displaying a layout at a local train show
Lazarus replied to ecmo47's topic in LEGO Train Tech
My tips from my shows. Always have somewhere to sit, standing up does take its toll. Always have a helper even if it just so you can have a 15 min relax somewhere. Barriers always have issues unless you are going way over the top and putting those big metal ones there. So plastic around the whole layout is a must with also a rope barrier. With PF buy yourself a Ton of battery's, personally i think 9v or 12v is the only type of trains you should be running at shows due to this. I just had a show 2 weeks ago and the guy behind me spent most of the 3 days messing with battery's. -
I did group the roof of it so you could just hide it and see inside, but the group may of been removed.

" The model was skewed on the grid and it proved to be a real pain in the behind to fix!! " I noticed that, also one of the base plates where out what i fixed up to.
-
in that situation that would be true. It costs me about $5 to make a point motor for my switch's, but i control these from a core switch board as I am a 9v guy. So cost wise I would need to by all the PF hardware to do this what is a higher cost for me. I set mine up the same as Analog model trains.
-
May also be a sign of the motor bushes going.
-
Good Idea, but does not look cost effective if you need to do a large amount of switches. There are cheaper none lego/modding of lego options out there.

I have plans for an A4 but it does not use any EN parts.

spy1101001 I have sent you the plans on how to make one, If anyone else would like them please send me your email. These are plans to make the switch motor with a small RC motor.

I would say I dont think we will see another diffrent train design for a while. I dont think they will change the track or PF stuff for trains anyway. Yes the past 2-3 years has shown a good amount of train sets out, but it still looks like they are ding as a selling point. I still think 9v has always been the best due to not needing battrys so would be nice for them to go back

Looking at the pics, I would say the boiler from the cab to nose should be at least 20 studs long.

Burned out train motors (et al) from club shows
Lazarus replied to zephyr1934's topic in LEGO Train Tech
U can always repair the motors the way I have showing in the past. I did not even know lego has spare parts -
I will be going over this on my days off, so will show you guys some of my changes. I do like Jtlan changes.

That new one does fit the body better but now it looks like it need to be streched a bit. Looks like a Tank now not a tender loco. But I think i need to see it in 3d before I can put in any more input, I will download the LXF when I get home and have a look. I might say the first was still better overall look. I think I will try and make the body 7 wide and I think that will even it all out.

I have all sets and polybags now. 2013/14 and movie. and the 3 polys -
Boiler still looks two small good bolier to copy is the good old Lego EN one as it is quite fat and fits well on a 7wide body. Yes the cab needs to be 7 wide. Looking at the real life pics of the train, with scaling down it looks to be about 1 stud between the bolier and the edge of the loco. I think add 1 stud more width and hight to the bolier, lose the 2 plates added with on the sides and bring the cab to 7 wide and you will be spot on. You are almost 8 wide with the added plates on the sides. 7 wide is hard to get right but i think looks the best, 8 tends to look a bit fat for 6 wide wheels. I would love the LXF on this so I could mod it a bit.
