Sometimes color contrast is a design choice. Since TLG likely wanted to make it obvious that the piece can be removed or added at will, making it blend in to the surfboard would be counterproductive. A different color conveys that idea better.

This makes me disappointed. You're probably right. But it does make me wonder if we will ever see named villagers at some point down the road, characters who become important to the story (more so than the protectors, anyway). Seems doubtful since TLG is focusing almost exclusively on the Toa, but who knows?

Kopaka (and Pohatu) have a Rahkshi staff end. Anyway... I don't see the armor pieces as looking exclusively organic. They seem to work for both technical AND organic builds, part of the reason the CCBS system is useful. Lots of sci-fi robots have sleeker armor, so this is not unusual. This makes me question why you think the "organic plus technical" look the sets have are bad, considering that's exactly what you said the sets should look like. This is my opinion obviously, but the piston piece on top of shells looks pretty good. I see it as an integration, not "one thing on another." And I still don't understand why you think the sets are supposed to look more like the old BIONICLE than they do. Yes, the designers crafted the new masks to resemble the old ones. But (as I said before) that's more to make the characters recognizable than to copy the old aesthetic. And the piston add-on...it's honestly not that detailed. More than the shells? Sure. But generic enough that it fits right in with the shells. tl;dr: You don't like the way the sets look and that's fine. But claiming that the overall aesthetic of the sets is inherently wrong seems over the top. New BIONICLE ≠Old BIONICLE.

Why are we assuming the new BIONICLE is attempting to attain the aesthetics of the old one? Obviously TLG wants to keep some resemblance (the Toa masks and the piston add-on), but bear in mind this is NOT the same BIONICLE we had before. Just because it shares the name does not mean it needs to adhere to the original style. I honestly think the new Toa masks were designed after the old ones to maintain the likeness of the characters, not to attain the aesthetics of the first line. Will we see some new torso shells throughout the line? Sure. Various new add-ons as well, and maybe some new non-torso shells (I find this less likely; was surprised to see the skull guys' bone in the first place). But if I were a betting man, I would put down lots of money that they're not going to overhaul the system to bring back the old BIONICLE aesthetic.

If TLG is giving us all they can they're doing something wrong. They have so many other product lines to take care of; BIONICLE is not more entitled to new molds and recolors than any other line. Honestly I'm impressed with how many it's received thus far. Yep.

My impression of TLG in 2001-2003(ish) is that they were throwing money all over Bionicle (and some other stuff) because they were about to go bankrupt. They were trying very hard to save themselves, so it makes sense that they would make their most profitable line the most appealing. Now, of course, TLG's about as far from bankruptcy as ever so they don't have to do that. Rather than being their lifeline, Bionicle is now one of their many successful lines they must manage. So this "lack of recolors" (which I would consider a pretty decent number in the first place) is them not needing to save themselves. That is a good thing. Keep in mind constraction is a small subset of TLG's total sales, and constraction fans are a small subset of all buyers. TLG's purpose is not catering to us; they're not obligated to "give us" recolors or new molds. While those can increase sales of a set, the target audience (not us) tends to buy news sets because they are cool. Not for recolors or whatever. Also remember that Star Wars constraction is a thing. We may yet see recolors through that line.

I don't think "wasted" is the right word; should the line continue TLG may pull up the concept art for more inspiration. However, I agree that the non-use of such fantastic concept pieces is disappointing. They give us the impression that Okoto is a massive and beautiful place, but we've seen hardly any of that in the animations and elsewhere. It would certainly make the world feel more real and mysterious if we did.

Can't say I've had any problems with them, though my CCBS parts are lightly used compared to others. Honestly, my problem has been the opposite: some of the friction extender pieces have been TOO tight to the receiving balls. Pull a leg off Tahu fairly often because of this.

I think TLG will work things fairly. Hopefully they'll fix the system before the first deadline, but if they don't, I'm sure they'll count all the entries where they should be.

What was the worst construction set?
mysteriouspi replied to Bigger Fish's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Getting back on topic... I can't say I cared for the Vahki very much, they looked awkward to me as a kid when I got them. But my least favorite were probably the Barraki. Their concept was really cool, but the execution didn't quite live up to that. Some of them were constructed in strange manners that didn't look good, and most of them had spindly limbs that didn't work well. This is all in my opinion of course, I know a lot of people here really like the Barraki. -
I'm shocked by excited for this announcement. So very annoyed glad DisneyTM is working its way into every crevice of my life. Down with All hail the mouse!

The rules indicate that each week, the winner of each element will win the Toa of that corresponding element. Which means 36 winners will receive a Toa set, and of those 36, 6 of them will win the gold mask for that Toa.

There are ways to search an image. TLG could take a submitted entry and see where else it pops up. As long as they do that for "suspicious" entries it should be relatively ok. There doesn't seem to be a limit to entries, though if someone's uploading dozens by the method you described, I'm sure TLG would make sure they're legitimate original images.

I have all (Hero Pack included) but LoSS. Plan to get him for the sake of eventually upgrading Skull Grinder, who will probably be the only summer set I buy. Would be interested in more than just him but I've got other LEGO projects that demand my money first.

I think August is more likely since that is when the summer wave is supposed to launch. You may be right though; timing could be quite different.

I don't see it. The prototype MoCr has none of the aesthetics we've seen the masks have so far. And it looks enough like a prototype that I don't think they'd decide to make it a final design. Especially with that mouth hole.

Lovely use of pieces here. The brown and the gold work together especially well. The only thing I can really find to complain about is the tiny size of the front feet compared to the back feet, but that's a drop in the bucket compared to how cool the build looks.
-
Well dang, this is impressive. The integration of CCBS and System parts looks so natural. Excellent design too.

I find that highly unlikely. Since TLG's trying to keep the story simpler this time around, I'm pretty sure there won't be any impersonations. Even when Teridax was impersonating Dume in Gen 1, his actions were questionable at best and therefore it was fairly obvious something was wrong. We have seen Ekimu do nothing to suggest he's not who he says he is. Mostly because he's asleep... But still.

Star Wars Constraction 2015 Discussion
mysteriouspi replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Action Figures
If Grievous has white shells, might get him. And Boba Fett if he's not Jango. Otherwise I'll be skipping most of these. -
Oh dear. The joke has more depth to it now. In regards to color schemes, I do think it would be nice if the Toa had more focus on their elemental colors (particularly Gali; wish she came with more of those pretty dark azure shells), but I understand why TLG puts in so many metallic colors. While the colored shells are technically armor, the metallic stuff looks more obviously like armor. It's somewhat of a "buy me because I'm ready for battle" statement.

Keep in mind they can only show the hand. If they show more of a Toa to create a more realistic pose, some people may think a representation of the Toa is included in the set. And it's hard to say what kind of pose a character has just based on their outstretched hand. You could be right of course, and the Toa could fall as they approach the MoCr. I simply doubt that idea because 1) things like that never happened in Gen 1 and 2) because of the Toas' "WE'RE STRONGER WHEN UNITED!" exercise while fighting LoSS.

But it could just as easily be the Toa retrieving their masks one by one from their respective villains as they enter the city. We don't know until TLG tells us so.

I ended up with three Keerakh in 2004, but that was a case of duplicate gifts and not intentional. While I have more recently entertained the idea of acquiring another full wave of Bohrok, I figured it wasn't worth it. I buy System sets too and can't justify spending all my LEGO-dedicated money on Bionicle.
