This early? Dang! A present for all of us! Set names sound mostly legitimate, considering "Lord of Skull Spiders" is a set name and all. Really hoping "Mask Maker" is Ekimu (it probably is), I'm excited to get the Mask of Creation!

My online-order Lewa made it to WalMart today and I picked him up (checked the shelves, no Bionicle). He is not without his flaws...but he's great. More solid than I expected and definitely a lot of fun. People have been complaining about boxes being roughed up, and now that I have one, I can see why. While they look nice, the way they are built makes them easy to crush and bend. Fortunately most of us don't buy the sets for the boxes.

Think about this: they have to use the original Mask of Time's image because, if they made a new one that looked nothing like it, we would not recognize it as a Mask of Time. Making the Easter Egg mostly pointless. Just because it looks like the old mask does not mean it is the old mask. Many of the Toa's masks--the Mask of Ice in particular--look like their old versions. But that does not mean they are the same mask. Kanohi Akaku =/= Mask of Ice, so in the same way it is likely that New Mask of Time =/= Kanohi Vahi, even if they look similar and have similar functions.

Just to point this out: the Vahi is the Mask of Time. The Gen 1 Vahi does not hop dimensions. Only the Kanohi Olmak can do that. Because 1) the Olmak has not been teased whatsoever, and 2) at this time we have little knowledge of what role the Vahi plays in Gen 2, there is little to support the idea that the Okotoverse and the Mataverse are linked. Add on top of that how complicated the storyline would become if they were vs. TLG's desire to keep the story more simple...

Really impressive builds, you guys! Well deserved wins! Good luck to IGU in the finals. -
Hmm, I wonder if they're hinting at something...

A lot of people said the Toa were using lasers. So I tried to see lasers, but couldn't. They all look like they're using elemental blasts. Which is a good thing. Anyway the nostalgia is great. Nothing like seeing advanced biomechanical(?) beings duke it out in a tribal setting.

Apologies; it was the "which brought an old character through time travel into a new universe with new versions of the original characters" that made me think so. Want. May order some later tonight if I have time.

It's been said a few times since NYCC that the "Star Trek" metaphor was made solely to indicate that this is a reboot. The rumor that the Toa are sent through time and space from the Mataverse to the Okotoverse sourced from an unintentional implication, as far as we are aware. Do we know for sure? No. But this seems to be the consensus from everything NYCC and after. Especially given the videos, in which the Toa appear to have (somewhat) different personalities from their Gen 1 versions. That said, were the Toa sent through time within the Okotoverse itself? That is more ambiguous.

Yes. This is awesome. No more masks on masks! That really bugged me in the first two Bionicle movies. Nice catch, SuperGeniusCreator! Very interesting. Especially since the design we've seen in the animations almost exactly matches the Gen 1 mask... (Not implying anything, I am simply intrigued by this since the Toa's masks are different from Gen 1)

Just watched all nine of them. The story videos--the second one in particular--seem a bit goofy, what with Tahu accidentally fighting the skull spiders. Although admittedly, Kopaka's "I didn't slip" was rather humorous. The content of those first three doesn't bode well for the characters becoming well-developed, but we will see. Interesting that the skull spiders don't seem bent on fighitng the villagers themselves: in the first video, it looks like the spiders are invading the villages but only to find the Golden Masks (which of course are not there). Also interesting how the protectors found Ekimu. Seems to contradict what we learned in the NYCC video. Perhaps they are mistaken... In regards to the Toa's animations, since they all say roughly the same thing there is little story to be learned. We do see how they fight, however. Seems the same person is narrating all these videos, hence Gali "being male." Dat accent on Pohatu tho.

My guess is that a new Vahi with roughly the same shape would not be able to fit via the new mask connection points; or at least, it would not look good doing so. Making it a "whole mask" seems like a a solution to aesthetics and is likely not plot related. Sorry for bringing it up again. Vahi discussion can end now.

Uh what? I'm under the impression that the old Trek Universe was left completely intact, minus Spock and Nero's crew. It still happened, it's just that Old Spock is in a different timeline now. None of those things happened in that timeline, but they did happen. Regardless...I've never been a fan of the multi-dimensional Bionicle so I'm hoping it's not some massive plot point. If it is, oh well.

Awwwww dang. This looks awesome so far. Hoping for IRL pictures before the night is out, but this is really really exciting. Glad we're finally getting story details. EDIT: Also, knocking off of masks confirmed by that video? Maybe...

LEGO Minecraft (Minfigure Scale) 2014 Rumors and Discussion
mysteriouspi replied to just2good's topic in Special LEGO Themes
My Facebook trending feed stated the following: LEGO: Photos leak of new Minecraft LEGO sets coming out in November It has links to a few major websites that talk about this "news." Just thought it was funny since we've had these/similar leaks for a while now... -
Oh dang! While I think the angles we have of Onua are unflattering, he looks good as a whole. Seems like a down-to-Earth interpretation of him (pun totally intended, again). Pakari is pretty cool. Can anyone tell whether the chest is printed or stickered? But that Defender takes the cake. That mask...it's awesome. I thought I'd skip them to save money, but I don't think I'll be able to resist. Since the Onua images (and the others) were retracted so quickly, I can only assume we will get them again (permanently) soon after the NYCC panel.

You don't have to save the world to be a hero. Finding the Path follows the journey of a man as he attempts to avenge his mother's death. But when it comes time to fulfill his goal, he is faced with a choice: to do what is right, or what is easy... I hope you enjoy the film! Comments and constructive criticism are more than welcome!

The issue with saying things like "Takua is really old so why doesn't he act that way," or anything like that, is the assumption that Bionicle characters mature in the same way that humans do. That's quite an assumption, one that I don't think we can use. Rather, Bionicle characters seem to mature in regards to their Duties and Destinies. For instance, Takua matured over the course of the search for the Seventh Toa: he only became Takanuva when he accepted that was his purpose. The Inika team likely became Toa because they were mature enough to take the responsibility a Toa would bear (considering they left Metru Nui to help the Toa Nuva). And the Metru team became Turaga when they were mature enough to set aside their Toa powers for the sake of the Matoran. I could be wrong, but that seems to be more than coincidence as it follows the story's themes.

Random point that has nothing to do with the conversation at hand and everything to do with conversation several pages ago, about the differences between creation vs destruction and light vs shadow: I watched the finale of MNOG last night. We know Bionicle G1 focused on light vs shadow, but MNOG was a different story. Makuta brags of and wields the power of destruction, while the Toa defend the power of creation that the Matoran hold. If I didn't know Bionicle so well, I could have been convinced they were beginning a story arc about the MoCr. (Yes, I realize the canon status of MNOG is all up in the air, but hey.) Just something to think about. Maybe LEGO will handle the creation vs destruction theme in a similar fashion. Maybe they won't. We'll have to see.

What were your First and Last BIONICLE G1 Sets?
mysteriouspi replied to TheBrickPal's topic in LEGO Action Figures
First sets my brother and I bought were all six Turaga at the same time. Kept the purchases going until 2008, at which point the last set we acquired was Lewa Phantoka. Reason being he was the only Toa that year whose design we cared for. We never did get into Glatorian or Stars, so that's it until G2 releases. -
Um...the leaked document (should it be true) referred to the Toa as such. So there's that?

Hau am I the only one ok with Tahu's mask? ;) Seriously though: while the classic Hau was a huge symbol in the original Bionicle, that was the original line. TLG can do whatever they want here, so a classic Hau shouldn't really be an expectation. It may look odd now but I'm sure it will be fine (even good) in set form. Others look great. Still a huge fan of Kopaka. Gali is exciting, since the mask isn't the monster we thought it was. Bad Luck Lewa

The other problems with stacking masks are: the MoCr would have to be quite large to fit over the other masks, which would probably look silly on the Toa/Masters. And the masks are differently shaped to the extent that I really doubt the MoCr by itself could fit over all of them. I mean, look at Kopaka's mask...the idea that the MoCr has room to fit over his X-ray scopes seems absurd.

It provides a way of attaching the mask without use of a stud or axle to stick it in the mouth or head, something some people have complained about. This way it fits more like an actual mask. It may also allow the (assumedly) new heads to be designed for form over function.

While I understand what you're saying, I think the situation with Bionicle is a special case. It's not like we're coming into this line completely blind; we already know who these Toa/Masters are. It's unlikely that, reboot or not, those specific characters are going to change much in personality and behavior. I could be wrong, of course. But like I said, these are characters most of us enjoy already, and from a line we are already familiar with. If anything, someone could ignore the new story completely and choose to view this Toa as CCBS updates of their original forms. But that's up to individual preference. I'm probably just rambling now. You do make a good point.
