  1. I'll throw in my thoughts. 1) The low number of new molds is probably helping Gen 2 BIONICLE more than it's hurting it. Some folks want lots of new molds every year because that's a feature of Gen 1, but few new molds helps the line financially. And with CCBS we don't even need new pieces terribly often while still being able to create varied looks for different builds. Also, TLG trusts the brand because they green-lit it in the first place. No need to be worried about that. 2) Can't comment much here, never read anything HF. That said, as long as the BIONICLE (graphic) novels do a good job of detailing the story while still making it accessible we may get a whole line of them the way Gen 1 did. Or maybe not. We'll have to wait on that one. 3) I'm sure CCBS was profitable as HF alone. If the Ultrabuilds were necessary to keep constraction afloat, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have BIONICLE right now (nor Star Wars Ultrabuilds coming in September). 4) There are certainly kids out there who get both constraction and system sets, and some that prefer action figures and therefore mostly get constraction sets. Yes, Ninjago is wildly successful, but that doesn't mean BIONICLE doesn't have its place.
  2. I recall some employees at NYCC(?) saying that the Gen 2 Mask of Time was a full-face mask. So they have a design for it. Makes me assume we'll see it in a set/polybag/give away at some point. Tahu smells déjà vu.
  3. I went through a Target, a LEGO Store, and another store on the first. No sign of them. Although it's been a week I doubt luck will be much better. Also the trans mask looks pretty great. Won't get it unfortunately, but still.
  4. My understanding is that that's a Gen 1 thing: IIRC, Matoran shut down after not wearing a mask for too long, while Toa have their power significantly reduced though they still function. So not death, but a huge reliance. So far the issue hasn't specifically come up in Gen 2 so we're not sure (though my guess is that not wearing a mask has no effect). Regarding Ekimu and Makuta, the story trailer specifically says "a shockwave rolled across the land and sent both brothers into an endless sleep." So it's not the mask removal that made him comatose, it's the shockwave. I mean, yeah, the shockwave was created by Ekimu removing Makuta's mask, but I'm guessing that's specifically an effect of the MoUP, since the Toa removing their own masks don't experience this issue. I do like your idea of decomposing masks, that sounds really cool. Not sure it's true--the summer skull masks have features of the skull spider masks, indicating they are offshoots thereof--but still, cool.
  5. Seeing Onua Mistika next to Onua Okoto makes me really glad CCBS is a thing. That's only my opinion, of course. I'm only planning on getting MMvsSG but my subconscious occasionally craves the others as well. Though MMvsSG is my favorite one; the detailing on the MoCr is great and the figures look pretty good too.
  6. Wasn't going to buy any of the Star Wars constraction figures but then this fellow showed up. Fantastic! Love the way he looks. I agree with others than an OT stormtrooper would be nice too, but this is great.
  7. There's some truth to that. The product descriptions say Pohatu, Lewa, and Gali include "BIONICLE shells" but Tahu and Onua are said to have "gold BIONICLE shells." Kopaka has no such text; odd since he's the only Toa to include the white piston add-ons.
  8. Except that's not the face "doubling in size," it's a mask. The face more than likely appears the same underneath, probably not decomposed. The horns, though, are unexplained.
  9. Not commenting about how the BIONICLE ladies were written (since I don't remember), but I do wish there hadn't been rules about "this element is this gender;" that horribly limited the number of female Toa and Matoran we met. I find a five-to-one ratio of guys and gals to be oddly disproportionate. Now about the giant robots, since I ducked out at the beginning of 2008: how tall was the original Mata Nui robot? And the prototype robot compared to it? It sounds like they were very oversized, the way you're talking about them.
  10. Well...then a basic mask, with eyeholes/visor and maybe something representing a mouth. Technically anything could be a mask, yes, but the purpose of the contest is for masks that kinda look like faces. Objects that kinda look like masks that kinda look like faces. ...yeah.
  11. They're not supposed to resemble THE masks. They only need to look like an imaginary mask and have a main color correlating to one of the six elements.
  12. I can see why though. The walking mechanism was sketchy at best. Manas were much more stable (from what I can tell; never owned them). Now, if we stick treads on him...
  13. That didn't take long. Nice though. They have a lot of character.
  14. Quick, somebody MOC all the Doo-Heads! Fascinating that this is what BIONICLE spawned from. I like some of them, not so much others. Good find on the box images too. Funny how dark they are compared to the winter wave's more colorful look.
  15. Hard to say. Gen 2 likely won't have the same "legendary mask set" as Gen 1. The powers of the MoCr in Gen 2 have yet to be explained; they could differ from the power of the MoCr in Gen 1. Even more so, the Mask of Time: the Kanohi Vahi (Gen 1) was only capable of speeding up/slowing down time, while the Gen 2 Mask of Time appears to be able to open gateways to different times. As to comparing the MoUP to the Mask of Life... I don't think so. It could be considered most powerful mask from Gen 1, but "ultimate power" was only a descriptor, not a name. Looking at things black-and-white, the Ignika was the "ultimate good guy" mask from Gen 1. The MoUP is so far the "ultimate bad guy" mask in Gen 2, and from what we can tell, it is intrinsically evil (at the least, uncontrollable). So saying the MoUP is an analogue to the Ignika seems out of place.
  16. "Space Wars" They tried so hard... Grievous at that scale looks more silly than anything. The face doesn't help.
  17. That meme is brilliant. Actually it's one of the reasons I prefer the Toa Okoto designs over those of the Toa Mata (I know, sue me): their bodies have substance. The Mata's limbs were much more stick-like in comparison.
  18. Are those 4M shells on his arms and 6M shells on his legs? Would be a first for those parts in white.
  19. Ok. I'm listening to the livestream from Celebration right now, it sounds like TLG is going to show something today around or after 3:30 PST. Not sure what or exactly when though so I'll just be patient. :)
  20. I agree that TFA should introduce some brand-new ship designs, but the upgraded variants make sense from an in-universe standpoint. They're simply newer models. This new X-wing replaced the old one just like the old one replaced the Z-95, and the new(?) TIE fighter replaced the old one just as the old one replaced the V-wing. Besides, in my opinion it will be cool to get these new variants as opposed to redesigns of vehicles models we've received time and time again.
  21. You can certainly tell who does and doesn't like constraction, huh. I feel a bit in the dark here...when are Cody and Jango (and possibly some TFA sets) supposed to be revealed? Today, tomorrow or Sunday?
  22. It is most certainly a Super Star Destroyer. Not the Executor since it got more or less vaporized, but a SSD nonetheless.
  23. I'm assuming they did that to mirror Luke's nearly identical line in RotJ. It likely has little to no effect on the film. In other news, my excitement level is about HEUGSLGNQIPEHGOWSBGHLJEBGQIHGLEJGADSGHLJGHEW right now.
  24. Obviously that hasn't been stopping the fans, has it? ;) Part of what makes BIONICLE great is that the fans expand the scope of the universe. Since TLG's not developing Okoto as much as we would like, we have the opportunity to do so. Seeing all the Gen 2 stuff that's been made so far (OOG, Rahi of Okoto, mods, MOCs, etc.) is pretty great. Anyway. I like that the Star Wars constraction line is running alongside BIONICLE. Both lines will (hopefully) give each other new pieces and recolors on a regular basis. Especially if the Star Wars line continues beyond the first two waves.
  25. Tan? And more tan? Heck yes! Glad to see Grievous using an opaque Skull Villains torso, though I'm surprised (and a tad disappointed) that he doesn't seem to have any of their bone pieces. Obi-Wan looks to be the better of the two overall. Can't say I like his new shoulder armor, but I do like his leg and knee armor. Hope Cody looks at least as good as him. Also hope Cody has lots of nice orange parts...
